No fewer than 46 suspected illegal immigrants residing in Ogun State have been arrested by troops of the Nigerian Army, in conjunction with operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS and the Nigerian Immigration Services.

Assistant Director Army Public Relations of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Idereghi Samuel Akari said in a statement on Sunday that the arrest followed actionable intelligence.

He said the operation which commenced on 11 June 2026, led to the arrest of the suspects at various locations within Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and surrounding communities during a targeted security operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had allegedly been residing in the state for approximately six months without valid immigration documentation.

During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities.

The arrested individuals comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 nationals of Côte d’Ivoire, 4 nationals of Togo and 1 national of Senegal. Among them are 36 males and 10 females.

The statement added that the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Ogun State Command, for further “investigation and appropriate administrative action in accordance with extant laws”.

Pastor Harrison Charles of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State, has been arrested for allegedly taking 75 married women from their husbands and made them his wives

The social media has been awash with the confessions and accusations of his victims and their relatives who claimed the clergy man sometimes swaps wives with other people’s husbands in his church, or outrightly taking some other people’s wives for himself.

Since the Anambra State government began the crackdown on fake pastors, which led to the arraignment of eight of them last week, many victims of fake pastors have been coming up and narrating their ordeals in the hands of the so-called men of God.

A media aide to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Dr Ejimofor Opara, in a post on Facebook, said the clergy man was arrested and handed over to the police.

Opara, who said that a joint investigation by the Anambra State Police Command and the state government has commenced, called on anyone who has facts about the pastor to reach the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Prince Ken Emeakayi for testimonies.

He said: “Pastor Harrison Charles, owner of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, was arrested by operatives of Agunechemba following a viral video containing several allegations against him.

“He is currently being investigated by the police, in collaboration with the Anambra State government.

“During his arrest, about eleven babies were found in his home. He claimed to be the father of these eleven babies and that they are from eleven of his wives.

“He also claimed that he does not know the number of wives he has married or the total number of children he has.

“While investigations continue, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, has urged anyone with additional information to report it to the State government.”

Plateau State chapter of the Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association of Nigeria, KPFAN, has berated former Governor Jonah David Jang over his opposition to a recent court ruling granting indigeneship to Hausa residents in Jos North Local Government Area based on their birth and long-term stay in the state.

While reacting to the ruling in a statement on Saturday, Jang had said the judgment would come with serious implications for the state’s identity, cultural heritage, and indigenous rights.

The former governor stated that debates surrounding citizenship, residency, and indigenship in the state have remained at the center of political and social discussions for decades, and wondered why the court should hastily decide on a matter that could further heighten tension.

He argued that altering the existing framework could create tensions and undermine the rights of groups that have traditionally been recognized as indigenous to the state.

But the Fulani group, in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Idris Bayero, countered the elder statesman, describing his opposition to the ruling as not only unfortunate but dangerous to the unity of the people and the fragile peace in the state.

Bayero said Jang’s stance negates the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution which guarantees every citizen equal rights and prohibits discrimination on grounds of ethnicity, place of origin, or religion.

“The Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association of Nigeria (KPFAN) views with utter dismay and disappointment the recent remarks by former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah David Jang, opposing the issuance of indigene certificates to Hausa/Fulani residents in Plateau State,” the statement said.

Continuing, Bayero said:

“His position is not only unfortunate but also a dangerous relic of ethnic exclusivism that contradicts the clear provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

“Senator Jang’s stance flies in the face of Section 42 of the Nigerian Constitution, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of ethnicity, place of origin, or religion. 

“Every Nigerian citizen, including Hausa/Fulani families who have lived in Plateau State for generations—some for over a century- has the right to be recognized as bona fide citizens of the state where they reside, contribute, and pay taxes. Citizenship is not a privilege to be dispensed based on parochial loyalties.

“The indigene-settler dichotomy has been weaponized over the years to marginalize fellow Nigerians. Many Hausa/Fulani communities in Plateau were born there, have their ancestral graves there, and have contributed immensely to the economy, security, and cultural life of the state. Denying them certificates simply because their great-grandparents migrated before the creation of the state is a historical injustice.

“It is no longer news that Plateau State has witnessed recurring cycles of violence. Our association firmly believes that the refusal of successive Plateau leaders, including Senator Jang, to embrace justice and equality for all citizens—irrespective of ethnic background—has been the kindling for repeated conflicts. 

“When a section of society is permanently designated as “non-indigenes” despite decades of residence, you create second-class citizens who are vulnerable to exclusion, dispossession, and violence. That is the real recipe for crisis.

“In the 21st century, no modern society advances by locking out fellow citizens from certificates of belonging. Jang’s logic, if applied universally, would unravel the Nigerian federation. We call on him to use his advanced age and experience to champion inclusion, not exclusion. The Fulani are not strangers in Plateau; they are neighbours, farmers, herders, traders, and in many cases, indigenous people whose history predates the 1967 creation of Plateau State.

“We call on the Plateau State government to disregard Senator Jang’s retrogressive advice and instead move toward a unified residency-and-indigeneity framework that respects the Nigerian Constitution. No citizen should be denied state-level rights—access to employment, education, or political participation—because of their ethnic surname.

“Senator Jang’s statement is a disservice to national unity and a direct affront to the Hausa/Fulani communities who have called Plateau their home for generations. 

“The Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association will continue to resist all forms of discriminatory policies and will support legal action if necessary. We urge Plateau leaders to learn from history: peace comes from justice, not from perpetual exclusion.”

Group berates ex-gov Jang for opposing indigeneship for Hausa-Fulani 

 

A 23-year-old man, Ben Wazabanga, has been found guilty of murdering a United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Ayowale Aladejana, and will be sentenced on July 13.

The UK Metropolitan Police disclosed this in a statement on Friday following Wazabanga’s conviction by a jury at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday.

The police said Wazabanga, of Fairfax Road, Bedford, murdered the 26-year-old Nigerian in New Cross, London, after a dispute over money.

According to investigators, extensive CCTV footage, phone analysis and vehicle tracking evidence established that Wazabanga deliberately travelled from Bedford to confront Aladejana before fatally stabbing him.

The statement read, “On Thursday, 11 June, a jury at Southwark Crown Court found Ben Wazabanga, 23, guilty of murdering 26-year-old Ayowale Aladejana.

“Through extensive CCTV and phone analysis, officers were able to build a strong and compelling case. They established that Wazabanga had turned against Aladejana, his former business associate, in a dispute over money.

“Fuelled by anger, he planned to confront him and armed himself with a knife, which he later used to kill Aladejana.”

The police noted that officers were called to a residential address on Monson Road, New Cross, on August 2, 2025, following reports of a stabbing.

It added that emergency responders from the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance treated Aladejana at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

“A post-mortem examination took place on Sunday, 3 August, and gave a preliminary cause of death as a stab wound to the chest,” the statement added.

The Metropolitan Police further explained that investigators swiftly reviewed CCTV footage in the area and identified a vehicle that had been parked outside the victim’s home before fleeing the scene.

According to the police, armed officers later intercepted the vehicle near Waterloo Bridge in central London and arrested Wazabanga after he allegedly attempted to flee while carrying a knife.

The statement added that Automatic Number Plate Recognition data showed that the convict drove approximately 50 miles from Bedford to New Cross to confront Aladejana, while phone records revealed his grievance against the victim and his plans before the attack.

Commenting on the conviction, the lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, described the killing as a calculated and avoidable act of violence.

“This was a calculated and brutal attack, with Wazabanga driving a considerable distance to accost Aladejana at his home and cause him harm.

“Both the responding officers and subsequent detectives worked tirelessly, examining CCTV and phone data, to piece together the timeline that led to Aladejana’s death

“This was a truly tragic and avoidable incident. We established that Wazabanga alone used the knife to kill Aladejana, and I hope that today’s conviction will bring Aladejana’s loved ones a measure of comfort as they continue to grieve his loss,” Card said.

The police stated that Wazabanga would be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, July 13.

Reports had it that Aladejana’s killing is one of several cases involving Nigerians who have lost their lives in violent incidents in the United Kingdom.

In June 2026, our correspondent reported that a Congolese national, Benjamin Katabana, was convicted of murdering UK-based Nigerian student Uchenna Okirie, popularly known as “Uche”, following a fatal stabbing at a shared accommodation in Norwich, England.

The Norfolk Police had said Katabana launched a sustained knife attack on Okirie in November 2025 before handing himself in to officers and telling them, “I have killed someone, I think.”

The Magistrates Association of Nigeria, Abia State chapter, has appealed to the Abia State government to provide official vehicles and well-secured vehicle parking facilities inside court buildings in the State.

The appeal follows the stealing of the a private car belonging to a Chief Magistrate Ngozi Lakwa, which she had  parked beside the Umuahia High Court complex to attend to her official duty, last week.

In an appeal made by the Chairman of Magistrates Association of Nigeria, Abia State chapter, Orji Nnaemeka, the association expressed worry that its member who was carrying out her official duties, lost her vehicle.

The group said that the theft clearly showed that Magistrates who replied on public spaces while performing their official duties, were becoming vulnerable to crime.

“It is unfair and demoralizing for judicial workers to suffer personal loss while discharging their constitutional duties to the State and its citizens,” Nnaemeka said.

The group feared that more of its members may fall victim if nothing was done about their request.

The organization argued that the theft of the car and other inconveniences could have been avoidable if adequate and monitored vehicle parking spaces had been put in place by the Abia State government.

The agreement, according to the French leader, also paves the way for comprehensive talks in the service of peace and security for all in the Middle East. 

The negotiations, he underscored, must address concerns related to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as “its policy of regional destabilization.”

“This is how we will be able to build a solid and lasting peace,” the President noted. “France is prepared to play its full part, alongside its partners.”

Macron assured his country’s resolute support for Lebanon’s efforts to restore its sovereignty, safeguard stability, territorial integrity, and meet the needs of its population.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the U.S.-Iran agreement as “a hugely important step forward” in ending the conflict, ensuring regional stability, and reopening the Hormuz Strait.

The British leader urged a total implementation of the MoU to guarantee the Strait remains permanently open, as well as the finalization of elements of the nuclear agreement. 

Expressing readiness to support the technical talks, Starmer demands a “toll-free freedom of navigation” to ease the severe economic impacts on families around the world.

The PM promised continued participation in defensive and independent multilateral missions, citing the UK and France’s role in operations, including mine-clearing.

Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s position that Iran must never have a nuclear weapon, stressing that Tehran’s nuclear commitments must be robust, verifiable, and fully implemented.

Ecuador coach, Sebastian Beccacece, has lamented his team’s 1-0 loss against Ivory Coast in their World Cup opener in the early hours of today.

According to Beccacece, he made all the necessary adjustments in the second half to secure a draw against the West African, but the goal ensured his team failed to get a point.

DAILY POST reports that Amad Diallo scored a 90th-minute winner after coming off the bench to give Ivory Coast all three points against Ecuador.

“In the second half, we made the necessary adjustments and were in control enough to secure at least a draw,” Beccacece said at his post-match interview.

“We put in a tremendous effort against a strong opponent. The final result wasn’t what we wanted, but it’s just the beginning, and we have to keep working.”

Ecuador will now face Curacao in their next fixture in Group E, while Ivory Coast will take on Germany.

It is with deep pain and heavy hearts that we announce the tragic death of one of our own Student nurse Chilaka Vivian an ND II student of College of Nursing Sciences Alor, which occurred today, 14th June 2026.

Reports surrounding the incident indicate that she was assaulted before her unfortunate death, while investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

This painful incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety and security of student nurses across our institutions. What happened in Imo State and now in Anambra State must never become a recurring story. 

The lives of student nurses matter, and their safety must be treated as a priority at all times. Today, we the National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives mourn the painful loss of our beloved sister and colleague. We stand in solidarity with her family, friends, classmates, and the entire nursing community during this difficult moment.
