  • Osun APC leaders demands investigation over Ataoja’s attempted assassination claim

Osun APC leaders demands investigation over Ataoja’s attempted assassination claim

The alleged assassination attempt on the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, has sparked calls for an investigation and renewed political tension in Osun State.

With the monarch recounting his ordeal, the All Progressives Congress, APC, leadership in Osogbo, while questioning the circumstances surrounding the claim, demanded a thorough probe and criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s handling of security.

The monarch had disclosed the alleged attack during an endorsement event organised by Ajegunle traders and artisans for Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid in Osogbo, where he claimed gunmen invaded his palace and shot sporadically in an attempt to kill him.

According to the Ataoja, some of his aides sustained gunshot injuries during the incident, which he alleged was an example of political bitterness.

He said the attack would not deter him from supporting Governor Adeleke’s second term ambition and appealed against political violence in the state.

“My palace was attacked. I was obviously the target, all because of our support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election. This is political bitterness taken too far. Law enforcement agencies were already taking action on the matter,” he said.

The royal father urged residents to reject violence and instead express their political preferences through the ballot box.

He also called on security agencies to strengthen security across the state and expressed support for both Governor Adeleke and President Bola Tinubu.

Reacting to the monarch’s statement, the Osun State chapter of the APC called on the police to investigate the alleged assassination attempt and establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The party said the allegation was grave and required urgent attention to reassure residents and protect the state’s image.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC said questions remained over whether the incident was reported to the police, the identities of those allegedly injured and the medical facilities where they were treated.

“It is necessary for the police to expedite action on the investigation of this allegation in order to clear some knotty issues surrounding it. We urge members of the public with relevant information to assist security agencies,” it stated.

Separately, leaders of the APC in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas also demanded a comprehensive investigation into the allegation, saying the circumstances surrounding the claim required clarification.

They called on the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to investigate the matter.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, former Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Akintunde Adegboye, said the Ataoja had not directly accused any political party of involvement and questioned why Governor Adeleke allegedly linked the matter to opposition elements before the conclusion of investigations.

“We expected that His Royal Majesty, the Ataoja of Osogbo, should rise above partisanship and be a father to all irrespective of political affiliation,” Adegboye said.

While also criticising the governor’s response to the matter, he described recent developments as evidence of lapses in the state’s security management.

Somaliland President meets Herzog in historic visit to Israel

Somaliland President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi held talks with President Isaac Herzog on Sunday during his first-ever state visit to Israel.

Abdullahi noted the significance of Israel’s recognition of Somaliland in December 2025, calling it “an important marker” in the evolving relationship between both nations.

The leader thanked the Israeli government, President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister while conveying “the appreciation of six million Somaliland Muslims.”

He recalled how they reached out to world leaders for 35 years, saying, “Only one country desired to see us and recognize Somaliland, and that’s the government of Israel and its people.”

Herzog, in his remarks, emphasized that the meeting symbolizes “the great potential” of a new partnership, declaring that the two sides acted with courage and realism.

According to the President, Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state was a status that has been in effect for several decades.

Herzog said bilateral relations should now move from declarations to people-to-people cooperation in a range of fields, which are important to both countries.

“We both face the threat of radical extremism,” he noted, adding that Jerusalem and Hargeisa seek maritime freedom as well as security and stability in the region and the Horn of Africa.

Somaliland earlier announced plans to open its pioneer embassy in Jerusalem, joining the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and Fiji.

  • Insecurity: Rural Nigeria in 2026 more dangerous, displaced, abandoned – Adamu

Insecurity: Rural Nigeria in 2026 more dangerous, displaced, abandoned – Adamu

A political analyst has warned that rural communities across Northern Nigeria are being systematically displaced as insecurity worsens and spreads under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration between May 2023 and June 2026.
The assessment was made by Engr. Abdulauf Adamu, Director of Consultancy Services for Information and Communication Technology at the Jigawa State Polytechnic, Kazaure.

In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST, Adamu gave a full evaluation of Nigeria’s security situation.

According to him, a fair assessment must begin with what the administration inherited in 2023.

“When President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, insecurity was already widespread. Many Nigerians were living in fear, especially in rural areas regularly besieged by non-state armed groups,” he said.

He added that insecurity had already disrupted education and economic life across the country.

“Insecurity was also taking a grave toll on economic activities, particularly commerce and agriculture, and schools in many parts of the country were shut down following mass abductions of students,” he said.

He stressed that this context is critical as no fair analysis can attribute the structural roots of Northern insecurity to any single administration.

The analyst noted some limited progress in the North-East, particularly in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

“There has been a significant reduction in insurgency-related deaths across parts of the North-East. These developments do not signify victory, but they show degradation of insurgent capacity,” he said.

He added that joint operations with international partners also contributed to counter-terrorism gains.

“Joint operations with foreign partners, including the United States, reportedly contributed to the elimination of senior ISIS-linked figures in the Lake Chad region,” he said.

He warned that tactical eliminations do not address root causes.

Turning to the North-West, he described the situation as the most troubling.

“This is the most damning evidence against the administration’s security record,” he said.

He warned that banditry is not being contained but spreading.

He noted that the number of states affected by rural banditry increased from nine in 2024 to 16 in 2025.

Adamu stated that displacement figures continue to rise.

“By February 2025, more than 580,000 people, the majority of them women had fled their homes across Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara,” he said.

He further highlighted an escalation in violence between late 2025 and early 2026.

“In November 2025, at least 402 people, mostly schoolchildren, were kidnapped across four northern states, surpassing the scale of the Chibok abduction,” he said.

He added that in January 2026, more than 160 worshippers were abducted, while in February 2026, armed groups attacked villages in Kwara, killing over 160 people.

The analyst stressed that rural communities are bearing the worst of the crisis.

“The most damning evidence comes from what is happening to the physical fabric of rural communities themselves,” he said.

He noted that Zamfara State continues to experience near-daily attacks.

“In Zamfara alone, attacks occur daily sometimes multiple times in a single day,” he said.

He also pointed to Benue State, where he said over 200 villages have been destroyed.

“In Benue State alone, over 200 villages have been sacked, displacing about 450,000 people,” he said.

He added that attacks are often deliberately structured to prevent return.

“In some cases, attackers destroy boreholes, clinics and schools infrastructure that would make return possible. This is a scorched-earth strategy against rural life itself,” he said.

He also warned about the emergence of new armed groups in previously stable areas.

“In the two years since Tinubu assumed power, new armed groups including Lakurawa in Sokoto and Kebbi and Mamuda in Kwara have emerged,” he said.

He described Lakurawa as more than a typical bandit group.

“Lakurawa has transitioned into a coercive militant actor, operating a hybrid model combining insurgency, banditry and proto-governance,” he said.

He added that it enforces rules, collects taxes, and seizes livestock and food produce from communities.

“The inability of Nigeria’s government to provide security for its people has led directly to the breeding of such groups,” he said.

He further noted that insecurity is spreading into previously unaffected areas.

“Populations in Plateau and Benue are facing increased risks amid rising inter-communal violence,” he said.

He added that Kwara State has also become a new hotspot.

“Kwara State has also emerged as a new venue for inter-communal violence,” he said.

He referenced a major attack in which hundreds of militants attacked villages and killed at least 162 residents in one of the deadliest incidents in recent months.

He concluded that the overall situation is deteriorating rapidly.

“Rural Nigeria in 2026 is more dangerous, more displaced, and more abandoned than it was in 2023,” he said.

He added that the threat landscape has not just deepened, it has broadened, with new armed actors and new states affected.

“The violence is not random. It is systematic and designed to permanently displace rural populations,” he said.

He warned that unless governance extends beyond military patrols, the crisis will continue.

“Until the Nigerian state resolves to govern its rural territories not just patrol them, this trajectory will not reverse,” he said.

He further added that the most likely outcome is not resolution but management.

“The most realistic outcome is a managed crisis rather than a solved one contained enough not to destabilise the election, but nowhere is resolved enough to change the lived reality of a farmer in Zamfara or a mother in Benue. That is a deeply unsatisfying answer, but it is the honest one,” he said.

Petrol station razed as tanker bursts into flame in Umuahia

The Aka God petrol station located at Nkwoegwu town, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, was on Sunday night, destroyed by fire outbreak.

The inferno, which started at about 6:30 pm, lasted for hours.

It was reportedly caused by an explosion from a loaded petrol tanker inside the facility.

Though no life was lost, the fire outbreak destroyed goods worth millions of naira in the petrol station and partially affected adjourning property.

Initial efforts made by youths of Nkwoegwu community and other sympathizers to quench the fire was not successful as balls of fire pumping up from the burning tanker overwhelmed their efforts.

But men of Abia State Fire Service who were alerted about fire outbreak,  arrived the scene at about 7: pm and deployed their equipment.

The efforts of the fire fighters eventually stopped the flame from consuming nearby private buildings, a medical facility and other structures.

Some indigenes of Nkwoegwu, Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA, who witnessed the fire incident, thanked God that no life was lost, but regretted that the incident destroyed an investment located in their area.

‘Mercy Chinwo turned it to concert’ – Daddy Freeze on why he left Alex Ekubo’s funeral

Daddy Freeze, a veteran Nigerian On Air Personality, OAP, has revealed why he left Alex Ekubo’s service of songs.

He made the disclosure during Instagram live over the weekend.

DAILY POST reports that the late actor, Alex Ekubo’s service of songs was held last week Wednesday in Lagos state, with many prominent figures, including gospel singers, pastors, Nollywood stars, Daddy Freeze and other personalities in attendance.

Revealing why he left while the ceremony was ongoing, Daddy Freeze in an Instagram video over the weekend, said the singer turned the funeral event into a concert.

While questioning Mercy’s understanding about funeral, he asked “Does Mercy Chinwo not have soft music?”

“Mercy Chinwo climbed the pulpit and turned the place to a concert. At that point I got up and left. Does Mercy Chinwo not have soft music?

“Do you understand what a funeral is? The kind of music that should be played at a funeral is soft music. They should have just played hymns for like two hours, then I would have sat down there and enjoyed it. So at the time she was performing, I just got up and left.”

DAILY POST reports that gospel musicians that sang at the ceremony included Mercy Chinwo, Peterson Okopi, Moses Bliss, Ebuka songs, the Laud Urban Choir, among others.

  • 2027: ‘He’s wicked spirit, jackal’ – Pastor Chris releases shocking prophecy about three major presidential candidates

2027: ‘He’s wicked spirit, jackal’ – Pastor Chris releases shocking prophecy about three major presidential candidates

The founder of LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has released a revelation concerning the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

Addressing his congregation in a viral video on social media, the clergyman talked about what God showed him about the three major presidential candidates.

Chris stated that each one of the three major presidential candidates is somebody that he has great respect for, adding that he feels that those candidates have made their contributions to the nation, but that would not stop him from saying what he saw.

“Each one of them is somebody that I have great respect for. Make no mistakes about it, I like these guys,” Pastor Chris said.

“These are wonderful people who have done a lot for our country. All right, so for each one of them I have very positive thoughts for each one of them, but you have to look in the spirit, and in the spirit, I saw the first one I mentioned yesterday, and it was a devil, a devil’s spirit, a wicked spirit was wearing his face, meaning that he doesn’t even know what he’s doing while he’s campaigning and running for president, he’s being used by a wicked spirit of darkness, and this spirit was a mocker.

“Today when I was praying, the spirit called him a name. I was surprised because he said the jackal is cut off. I said jackal? I thought I knew the meaning of jackal. I had to go into the dictionary to find what is a jackal. Why they call him a jackal. What is a jackal? It means a trick star, the swindler, and one that operates on behalf of another for the purpose of deception.

“The second one, I said, ‘What about him? He said, ‘If you let and get him in office, you will have no country. I said, ‘Lord, if we let the second one in office we will have no country?’ He said ‘you will have no country.’

“Then, in the spirit, I saw the third one. He was afraid, he was afraid he might win. Now he was afraid of losing. He didn’t want to lose, but he was almost scared of winning. I pray to the God of heaven, give him wings to fly.

“When it comes to elections, because of the sensitivity of our position, because I say they are all my children, spiritually. So, I try to not…but if I see something that I’ve seen, I cannot say I didn’t see it. Do you understand? But the first one, because of what it was, I won’t mention the name, neither will I mention the name of the second, but the third one, his name is in the Bible, so I want you to pray for your country.”
