A/Ibom Governor Charges Corps Members To Shun Violence

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps deployed to the state to reject groups and individuals with violent and divisive inclinations.

Rather, he advised them to align themselves with patriotic and visionary Nigerians who are committed to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation.

Eno, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, gave the advice in his address at the swearing-in ceremony of over 1,471 of the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state on Monday.

He charged the corps members, whom he described as critical stakeholders in the Nigerian project, to work towards bridging gaps and fostering understanding among the ethnic nationalities of the state, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and safety throughout their orientation period.

“Do not allow yourselves to be used by individuals or groups who promote division, violence, and disaffection. Rather, align yourselves with patriotic and visionary Nigerians who are committed to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation.

“As critical stakeholders in the Nigerian project, you must work towards bridging gaps and fostering understanding among our people. The nation looks up to you to inject fresh energy, vision, patriotism, and innovation into our collective quest for a better tomorrow.

“Here in Akwa Ibom State, we remain committed to your welfare and safety. My administration will continue to provide an enabling environment where you can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.

“Be assured that your lives and property, as well as those of every citizen and resident, will be protected against any form of threat, harassment, or abuse,” Eno said.

He also urged them to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to learn a skill and develop themselves, noting that with limited employment opportunities, corps members must position themselves as job creators, not job seekers.

According to him: “I urge you to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. Learn a skill and develop your entrepreneurial potential.

“In a world where formal employment opportunities are increasingly limited, you must position yourselves to become job creators rather than job seekers. Let this opportunity ignite in you a spirit of enterprise, creativity, and innovation.”

The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem, who was represented by the Director of Administration and Supply covering the duties of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Anthony Isonguyo, urged the corps members to embrace community development initiatives with passion and dedication in order to make a lasting impact, especially in rural communities.

In her remarks, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Akuagbaogu Rosemary, reminded the governor of his pledge to upgrade the orientation camp, noting that the rains have worsened facilities in the camp.

The Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Fabian Obot, who was represented by Justice Ekpo Ntekim, administered the oath of allegiance on the corps members.

2027: I’ll leave Nigeria if APC wins -Jigawa ADC guber candidate vows

African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship candidate in Jigawa State, Sabo Nakudu, has vowed to leave Nigeria if the All Progressives Congress, APC, wins the 2027 general election without improving the living conditions of citizens.

Nakudu made this vow while receiving members of the ADC youth wing in Jigawa State.

The governorship candidate expressed concern over what he described as the growing hardship across the country and warned that young Nigerians would continue to suffer if urgent steps are not taken to address the nation’s challenges.

He noted that the inability of successive governments to provide basic needs has left many citizens frustrated and uncertain about the future.

According to him, access to essential services such as clean water, electricity, education and security should not remain campaign promises decades after Nigeria attained independence.

Nakudu added that it was disappointing that many communities still struggle to get potable water and stable power supply, adding that governments should be assessed by the impact of their policies on the daily lives of ordinary people.

“I will leave Nigeria if the APC wins the 2027 general elections. The younger generation will bear the greatest consequences if the current situations of unemployment, insecurity and poor infrastructure persist.

“Don’t distance yourselves from politics but to participate actively in the democratic process. Only leaders who are committed to development and accountability should be entrusted with public offices,” he said.

Alleged certificate forgery: No court ordered my arrest – Tinubu’s ex-minister, Nnaji

Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has said that he is neither under investigation nor has any court ordered his arrest over alleged certificate forgery.

In a statement on Monday, signed by his spokesperson, Robert Ngwu, the former minister described reports that his arrest has been ordered by a court as false and misleading, alleging that it was part of a campaign to damage his reputation.

Nnaji insisted that he is neither in hiding nor under investigation by any law enforcement agency.

He equally maintained that neither he nor his legal team has received any invitation, summons, warrant or correspondence from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.

“Our attention has been drawn to yet another publication alleging that a court has ordered the arrest of former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji.

“We wish to state unequivocally that Chief Nnaji is not in hiding and has never evaded any law enforcement agency,” the statement read.

The statement further noted that Nnaji has lived for years at his residences in Asokoro, Abuja, and Independence Layout, Enugu, both of which it said are well known to relevant authorities.

According to the statement, neither Nnaji nor his legal team, led by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, has received any formal communication from the ICPC regarding the allegations.

It also disclosed that Nnaji is already before the Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025 – a case he initiated to seek judicial clarification on issues relating to his academic records, including the release of his transcript.

The statement added that the matter is still pending before the court and has not been determined.
