    Bulgarian Hospital Appoints Nigerian Doctor First African Paediatric Department Head

    A Nigerian-born medical doctor, Bello Mode Dange, has made history after being appointed Head of the Paediatric Department at Kavarna General Hospital in Bulgaria, becoming the first African to occupy the position at the hospital.

    The appointment, announced by the hospital management and reported by Bulgarian media, has been described as a major milestone for Africans in the European medical sector.

    Dr. Dange studied medicine at the Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria, graduating in 2008, and has lived and worked in the European country for over two decades.

    He later specialized in pediatrics at the University Hospital St. Marina in Varna, qualifying as a consultant pediatrician in 2021.

    According to Bulgarian reports, the hospital management cited his professionalism, years of experience, and commitment to child healthcare as reasons behind the appointment.

    Local media also described him as a dedicated and compassionate physician whose contributions have strengthened pediatric healthcare services in the region.

    Reports by Bulgarian national broadcaster BNT indicated that Dr. Dange assumed the leadership role at a critical period when the hospital was facing staffing challenges in its pediatric unit.

    Speaking after his appointment, the Nigerian doctor reportedly pledged to continue delivering quality healthcare services and earning the confidence of patients and families under his care.

    The development has attracted commendation from Nigerians in the diaspora, who described the achievement as another example of Nigerians excelling globally in medicine and healthcare leadership.

    Beyond his professional accomplishments abroad, Dr. Dange is also known for humanitarian activities, including offering free medical assistance and supporting vulnerable patients with hospital bills in his community.

    His appointment adds to the growing number of Nigerian professionals attaining top positions in Europe and other parts of the world.

    Traders Lament Rising Transport costs, Say Business Suffering

    Traders in Kaduna have lamented over the continuous rise in price of transportation as a result of fuel price increase saying the situation is affecting their businesses.

    The traders made this known in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

    The traders said the rising cost of transportation that also manifests in prices of goods has reduced patronage by customers.

    Mr David Philip a business man with Heritage Agro Allied Ltd. said that the cost of transporting goods from Lagos and Ibadan to Kaduna has risen tremendously which in turn have made prices of goods to increase.
    “Products that we sell N160,000 have risen to N180,000, some that were N90,000 are now 100,000.

    “There is a decrease in customer patronage, customers are not coming as they used to,” he said.

    Also speaking, Miss Divine Unogwu, a trader in day-old chickens and seller of chicken feeds said that the hike in transportation affected the cost of day-old chicken which rose by over 100 per cent.

    “The price of day-old chickens has risen from N800 to N1800”, she said.

    Another trader Mrs Emmanuella Ejike , who sells electronic and solar appliances stated that the increase in price of goods began when imported goods arrived Lagos and finally to Kaduna.
    According to her,the cost of transportation had forced her to increase the prices of her goods in order to stay in business.

    “I usually get 10 to 15 customers per day, but the number has now dropped to about five”, she lamented.

    Mr Chima Chidi, a provision store owner said that the price of most goods has increased due to rising cost of transportation.
    Similarly, Mrs Blessing Adebanjo, a restaurant owner said the food business is also affected by development.

    The lead pastor of Zoe Household Global, Dolapo Lawal, has tendered a public apology to Arsenal fans for saying that the football club is cursed.

    Pastor Dolapo who is currently facing backlash across social media platforms, made the apology after Arsenal won the Premier League on Tuesday.

    Speaking in a now trending video on social media, the cleric made a U-turn on his earlier remark6 about the club and promised Arsenal fans a thanksgiving service across his church branches on Sunday.

    “Arsenal fans, special thanksgiving for you in Zoe Household on Sunday. Come with your jersey. This is my apology, public apology, special thanksgiving service across all Zoe Household campuses. Praise God. Congrats,” he said.

    DAILY POST reports that the clergyman had a month ago, during an exchange with his congregation while preaching, stated that Arsenal can’t win the Premier League.

    While claiming that the club is cursed, he also advised ladies to avoid any Arsenal fans as suitors.

    “Arsenal cannot win. Didn’t I say it? You were here when I said it. I said it three months ago that even if the gap is 29 points, Arsenal cannot win. There’s a way you will watch a club, you don’t need prophet. And peradventure if you are here as a lady, if an Arsenal fan should ask you out, it’s a bad sign. You need to check yourself,” he said.

    Former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Dr Sam Amadi, has alleged that corrupt leaders in the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, are exploiting politicians aspiring for different positions.

    Amadi made the allegation in an X post on Wednesday while congratulating the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on his clearance.

    Refinery listing will open Africa’s industrial wealth to investors — Dangote

    President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said the planned listing of Dangote Petroleum Refinery on the Nigerian Exchange will allow more Africans to directly benefit from the continent’s industrial growth and prosperity.

    Dangote made this known during a visit by officials of South Africa’s Government Employees Pension Fund, GEPF, Public Investment Corporation, PIC, and Alterra Capital Partners to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State, where he stressed the need for large scale industrial investments across Africa.

    According to him, the refinery listing is designed to expand investment opportunities, create jobs, strengthen production capacity and support economic growth across the continent.

    “We want Africans to be part of this journey and benefit directly from the industrial opportunities being created,” he said.

    Dangote added that the company initially focused on serving Nigeria’s energy needs but growing demand across local and export markets has reinforced the need for expansion.

    He noted that industrial projects of such scale are critical to reducing dependence on foreign markets and boosting Africa’s economy.

    Chairman of GEPF, Frans Baleni, described the refinery as proof that Africa can deliver transformational infrastructure projects through strong leadership and strategic investment, adding that rising investor interest shows growing confidence in Africa-led industrialisation.

    Kano Fire Service Averts N1.7bn Losses In One Month

    The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kano State Command, has said it saved property worth N1.7bn from fire outbreaks recorded in April.

    The State Controller, Kazeem Sholadoye, disclosed this on Wednesday to THE WHISTLER through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Al-Hassan Kantin.

    He noted that the command responded to 15 fire incidents during the month, successfully preventing major losses.

    Sholadoye added that no lives were lost in the incidents, while property worth about N3m was destroyed.

    He also noted that the command recorded no false alarms or emergency calls from residents within the period.

    The controller urged members of the public to adopt proper fire safety measures and handle fire-related activities with caution to minimise the risk of future outbreaks.
