I used to run to Don Jazzy’s room to cry during hard times – Tiwa Savage

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has said the record label an artist is signed to plays a significant role in their mental health and wellbeing.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligenc podcast with Joey Akan, Savage said she didn’t realise how important the record label is to an artist’s mental wellbeing until she left Mavin Records.

The singer explained that during her stint at Mavins, she used to confide in the record label boss Don Jazzy and her label mates but no longer have such privileges at her new record label.

She said, “Who you signed to is very important and I didn’t appreciate it until after I left Mavin. Whenever there’s a controversy online I’d run to Don Jazzy’s room, sit on the floor or bed with other Mavin acts and we would talk about it. I would cry if I had to cry and we would get through it.

“But being with a [foreign] label, they don’t really care about your personal stuff. So, I can’t really go to the Empire office and cry. I miss that part it.”

She added that it is important for artists to discern whether the label they are signing to cares about them or just see them as moneymaking machines.

Tiwa Savage joined Mavin in 2012 but left in 2019 and signed to Universal Music Group.

Despite exiting the label, Savage has maintained that Mavin is still “family”.

Gov Sule picks APC ticket for Nasarawa North senatorial election

Governor Abdullahi Sule has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial primary election for Nasarawa North ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The result was announced by the returning officer for the exercise, Musa Shuaibu Guri, who stated that Sule secured a total of 47,393 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.

According to official figures released after the exercise, the governor defeated his challenger and former Deputy Governor, Silas Ali Agara, who polled 2,915 votes in the primary election conducted on Monday, May 18.

Guri described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and successful, commending party members and officials for what he termed a smooth electoral process across the senatorial district.

However, the outcome has continued to generate reactions in some quarters, with reports alleging irregularities and disruptions in parts of the district during the exercise.

Sources familiar with the process claimed that voting did not take place in several polling centres, alleging that some results were manipulated by individuals linked to government interests.

Despite the allegations, the APC electoral committee proceeded with the declaration of results, officially confirming Sule as the party’s candidate for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.

DAILY POST learnt that Oluwarankami had gone to visit the mother of the child who was sick and admitted in a clinic in Mowe on Saturday.

She tricked the mother into handing over the child, claiming she would care for the baby while the mother rested. But she absconded with the child.

When contacted on Wednesday, police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, told DAILY POST that upon the information, detectives of the Mowe Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Folake Afeniforo, immediately mobilized, while motor parks and strategic locations within the area were placed on red alert.

Nigerian military speaks on terrorists establishing operational base in South-West

The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has dismissed reports suggesting that terrorist groups have established a permanent operational base in Nigeria’s South West region following the recent abduction of school pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the military described the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State as an isolated criminal act and not evidence of an entrenched terrorist presence in the region.

According to the statement, the affected schools are Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele and L.A. Primary School.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, expressed sympathy to the families of the victims, the Oyo State Government, and Nigerians over the incident, describing the abduction of innocent children and staff as “callous and reprehensible”.

He assured families that the Armed Forces of Nigeria was deploying all available resources to ensure the safe and unconditional release of the abducted victims.

According to the DHQ, previous clearance operations conducted in the Old Oyo National Park had significantly weakened criminal elements operating within the area.

“Current intelligence assessments do not support the conclusion that any structured or permanent terrorist base exists within the forests or hinterlands of the South West region,” the statement said.

The military added that troops are currently carrying out operations within the forest areas to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims.

It disclosed that troops recently made contact with the suspected criminals and have since intensified pursuit operations in collaboration with other security agencies, local vigilantes, and community members providing human intelligence.

The Defence Headquarters urged Nigerians, particularly residents of the South West, to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring that operations would continue until the abducted victims are rescued and criminal networks in the region dismantled.
