Kwara North senator’s third term ambition suffers set back

Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar’s third term ambition has suffered a set back as a section of the senatorial district has kicked against his bid.

At a press conference in Ilorin on Tuesday, National President of Patigi Emirate Development Union, PEDU, Salihu Bologi Umar, expressed deep concern over reports indicating the intention of serving senator to seek re-election for the Kwara North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group declared its position to include a “no to third term representation, respect for the established zoning tradition, Justice for Patigi local government area, two terms are sufficient and Patigi turn is now.

“Kwara North belongs to all its constituent communities equally, no individual or local government area should dominate the collective political destiny of the district at the expense of fairness, balance, and democratic justice, the group said.”

Bologi, urged all political actors, stakeholders, traditional institutions, youth groups and community leaders across Kwara North Senatorial District to uphold the principles of fairness, equity, dialogue and mutual respect in the overall interest of regional peace, political stability and democratic sustainability.

The group declared that “any attempt to deny Patigi Emirate its rightful opportunity to produce the next senator for Kwara North may compel many stakeholders and supporters within the Emirate to reconsider their political options and explore alternative democratic platforms capable of accommodating the legitimate aspirations of our people.

“This position is not intended as a threat, but as a sincere appeal for justice, inclusion and the preservation of political trust between the party and the people of Patigi Emirate.”

The national president, said, “for decades, the people and political stakeholders of Kwara North Senatorial District have sustained a respected and peaceful zoning understanding founded on the principles of justice, equity, inclusion and mutual political respect.”

Bologi, explained that the zoning arrangement, which allows for rotational representation among the constituent local government areas after every two terms or eight years, has remained instrumental in preserving political harmony, strengthening inter-community trust and promoting collective ownership of democratic representation within the senatorial district.

“It is on the basis of this long standing and widely acknowledged understanding that the people of Patigi local government area consider it both justifiable and appropriate that the 2027 Kwara North Senatorial District mandate be ceded to Patigi local government area,” the group added.

Court docks Gabam for alleged misappropriation as SDP chairman reacts

The Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Federal Capital Territory, on Tuesday docked the embattled former Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Shehu Gabam, for alleged financial misappropriation and other charges.

The case between between Gabam and the current Chairman of SDP, Sodiq Abubakar, are contained in case file No. DCC/10/2026, before the FCT Chief Magistrate Court.

Gabam, alongside Chukwuma Uchechukwu, were arraigned on six-count charges bordering on financial misappropriation at SDP amounting to over N35 million, forgery, and bridge of trust.

However, Gabam at the hearing pleaded not guilty before the judge of the Magistrate Court, Amauche Onyedium.

The magistrate therefore granted Gabam N3 million bail with two sureties within Abuja.

Speaking at the hearing, Abubakar said the opposition party decided to drag Gabam before the court in an effort to cleanse it from external influences.

“We are confident that the Judiciary will do justice to our millions of our members,” Abubakar said.

According to him, the party had asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to prosecute Gabam, but nothing was done, which is the reason they brought the matter before the judiciary.

“He squandered the party’s fund in his time between 2022 and 2023,” he noted.

Recall that Abubakar was elected as the chairman of SDP during the party’s national convention held in Bauchi on May 9th, 2026.

At the weekend, thugs suspected to be loyal to Gabam had put down the gate of the SDP’s national secretariat.

Food Prices May Drop By Next Harvest – Farmers Group

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (All Farmers Association of Nigeria) says food prices in the country may begin to decline by the next harvest season if governments take steps to improve security and reduce the cost of agricultural production.

The Deputy Chairman of AFAN, Lagos State Chapter, Mr Shakin Agbayewa, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

Agbayewa said staple foods such as rice, yams, cassava, and garri could become more affordable if farmers are able to cultivate their farms safely and access inputs at subsidised rates.

According to him, insecurity, high fertiliser prices, rising fuel costs, and expensive farm operations remain the major drivers of food inflation in the country.

“The government must be intentional. Input deliberate is expensive, while tractor operations cost more because of rising fuel prices. All these affect production,” he said.

He explained that the high cost of cultivation, transportation, and insecurity challenges are ultimately passed on to consumers, contributing to rising food prices.

Agbayewa called on federal and state governments to support farmers with subsidised inputs, improved rural roads, irrigation systems, and affordable credit facilities.

He also urged stronger collaboration with farmers’ associations to develop practical solutions tailored to the needs of different states.

According to him, increased agricultural production in the coming season would naturally ease pressure on market prices, adding that Nigeria has sufficient land and manpower to achieve food self-sufficiency if the right policies are implemented.

  • Xenophobia: Oshiomhole, Rufai disagree over South African investments in Nigeria

Xenophobia: Oshiomhole, Rufai disagree over South African investments in Nigeria

Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole on Tuesday clashed with Arise New anchor, Rufai Oseni over his opinion on South African investmentsin Nigeria.

Oshiomhole, during the interview stated that Nigeria should nationalise South African businesses over the killings of Nigerians in South Africa

The lawmaker said he was aware that MTN was quoted on the stock exchange, noting that Nigerian shareholders can hold on to their shares and take away South African control.

“We should re-privatise it so Nigerians can take it over, and there would be no repatriation of funds to South Africa.

During the campaign of President Ramaphosa, a major shareholder in MTN, he argued that foreigners are doing the jobs of South Africans.

“Now South Africa has high unemployment, and some have transferred aggression against other Africans. Life is more important. Nigeria should not look for investors who choose wealth over human life,” Oshiomhole said.

Responding, Rufai said, “It’s the same government that is saying they want investors. So how does that sound like when you can arbitrarily nationalize people’s shares when they come to invest in your country and you want foreign direct investment?

“So if Nigerians have chaos with any country, it is to nationalize their shares? That’s how Adams Oshiomhole sees things right? You just nationalise people’s shares like that?”

Frank Edoho Opens Up On Divorce Journey

Media personality Frank Edoho has spoken publicly about the end of his second marriage, revealing that he has been privately navigating the separation for nearly two years and has now reached a place of emotional acceptance.

In a post shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the veteran television host expressed gratitude to fans and supporters for their prayers, concern, and goodwill following reports about his marital situation.

“Over the past few days, I’ve received an outpouring of kind messages, prayers, concern, and goodwill regarding my separation and ongoing divorce proceedings. I truly appreciate the empathy,” he wrote.

Edoho noted that while the development may be recent to the public, he has already gone through the process privately and has found emotional calm.

“While I understand that the public is only just becoming aware of this chapter, I have lived through it privately for quite some time now (almost 2 years) and have since made peace with it emotionally,” he stated.

He added that life comes in different seasons and sometimes quiet healing is the most dignified path forward, saying he is focused, at peace, and grateful for continued support.

Edoho, who was previously married to broadcaster Katherine Obiang, with whom he has three children, ended that marriage in 2010. He later married Sandra Onyenuchenuya in 2013, and the union produced two children.

However, there have been unverified reports circulating online alleging a personal involvement between Chike and Frank Edoho’s former spouse, claims which have not been confirmed by any credible source.

As usual, social media is a buzz with Chike’s interviews about how he prefers married women, and how marriage is a stupid idea. His concept was that of getting married when your wife or husband isn’t faithful.

  • More Girls Registering For UTME, WASSCE As Experts Explain Shift

More Girls Registering For UTME, WASSCE As Experts Explain Shift

“It is like it is time for men to start shouting affirmative action,” the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, said jokingly on Monday during the annual JAMB Policy Meeting.

His statement stemmed from the fact that females were taking over in the registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Revealing the statistics, Oloyede stated that more female candidates had registered for the examination compared to their male counterparts.

He stated that more female candidates from 23 states registered for the UTME in 2026.

“All states of South West, South East, and South South, Kwara, Kogi and Plateau in North Central and Kaduna and Kano on North West,” he said.

Oloyede’s comment was reinforced when the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) revealed the same trend later that day.

According to WAEC, female candidates registered for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) outnumbered their male counterparts, marking a shift in enrolment figures compared to the previous year.

The council’s head of the Nigeria national office, Amos Dangut, said a total of 1,959,636 candidates from 24,207 schools enrolled for the examination.

Of this number, 1,001,072 candidates, representing 51.08 percent, are female, while 958,564 candidates, representing 48.92 percent, are male.

Dangut said the figures reflected an increase in female participation and a decline in male participation compared to the 2025 examination cycle.

Women’s World Just About To Be Unveiled In Nigeria

Speaking to THE WHISTLER on the issue, former Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Bem Goong, said the trend aligns with demographic and socio-economic factors.

“First, the number of females, even by the National Population Commission, is higher than the number of males,” he said.

Goong who worked in the sector for over seven years, also listed other factors:
“Number two, in the Southeast, it’s a historical factor. The war several years ago led to the depletion of the male population.
Number three, as we speak, you find more and more boys going into apprenticeship in the skills sector. Even government policies have been emphasising skills acquisition, and more boys are going into that. People are beginning to realise that it’s not really about university degrees.”

Goong added that for many girls, the path still leans toward formal education. “If you look at professions like medicine, law, mass communication, the dominant gender there is also girls. So I’m not surprised. The position is correct, and it’s backed by the National Population Commission.”

He said the development has no immediate negative implication.

“It’s not. The women’s world is just about to be unveiled in Nigeria. If you attend an assignment and have 20 journalists, 14 would be women. The women’s world is coming up in Nigeria.”

    A Disturbing News…

However, for Nkechi Macaulay, Founder of Boys Lives Matter, the trend should raise concern about boys’ engagement with education.

“It’s quite disturbing news, and I’m troubled by it because it shows boys are spiralling down when it comes to education. If we don’t pay attention, we’ll have more boys out of school,” she said.

Macaulay argued that the education system has been structured in ways that favour girls.

“Over the years, in a bid to boost girl-child education, we have tweaked the curriculum to attract more girls. We’ve abandoned the needs of the boy. Boys and girls are not alike, and our school system is designed to make girls enjoy school while it’s boring for the boy child,” she said.

She pointed to the lack of male teachers and teaching methods that don’t account for how boys learn.

“You can’t ask a boy to sit down for two or three hours and keep talking. Boys are restless. The novels, the books they read, are tailored to impress girls. A boy will say, ‘This is boring, there is no action,” she explained.

For Macaulay, the solution is balance. “Until we get back to a point where we understand that boys and girls see things differently, and tailor education to impress both, we’ll keep seeing this gap. I’m not happy that we’re in a time where more and more boys are not thinking about going to school.”

The JAMB and WAEC data suggest a measurable shift in who is registering for key national exams. While experts disagree on whether this is a concern, both agree the trend reflects deeper changes in population demographics, career choices, and how education is perceived across genders.
