You failed my people – Adamawa South senator, Yaroe tells Tinubu, APC

Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe who represents Adamawa South Zone in the National Assembly has refused to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, saying the party has failed his people.

Dauda defected from the Peoples Democratic Party earlier. He insisted that it would have been a betrayal of trust if he had moved to the APC.

He said during an event that continued neglect of the Adamawa Southern zone by the Federal Government leaves him with nothing to campaign for the APC-led President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government.

Senator Yaroe who is now in the African Democrafic Congress, ADC, said he would have considered defecting to the APC if it would guarantee presidential assent to his proposed Federal University of Education, Numan bill.

He said after investing years of legislative effort and resources into the bill, its rejection by the presidency became a painful setback for both him and his people.

Speaking in Numan while making his declaration to seek re-election to the Senate under ADC, Yaroe said, “If they had told me that joining APC would guarantee the passage of the Federal University of Education Numan bill, I would have risked my political future for the interest of my people.

“But after everything we did at the Senate, the bill was denied assent. How then do I go to my people and campaign for APC? There is practically nothing to show them.”

He charged that apart from the university issue, southern Adamawa has remained one of the most neglected regions in Nigeria despite comprising nine local government areas.

He boasted that he was one of 15 senators who resisted pressure to join the APC.

“Senatorial representation is a trust. I cannot betray the people who elected me simply to protect my political interest,” he said.

BBNaija11: ‘I do not have powers to get you into Big Brother – Whitemoney to applicants

Former Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye winner, Whitemoney has appealed to intending housemates of the reality show to stop asking him for assistance on how to go to the show.

Whitemoney said many have reached out to him asking him to influence their admissions ahead of the eleventh edition of the show.

Speaking in a video broadcast, Whitemoney urged the intending housemates to follow due process rather than seeking to cut corners.

He said he lacks the power to influence anyone’s entry into the reality show.

“My DM is filled up with messages from people asking me to influence their entries into BBNaija. Please, I do not have the power to put you into Big Brother house. Stop sending messages. Every year when the programme is approaching, I keep getting messages. This year’s own is too much.

“I understand that the economy is hard and everyone wants to be famous by going to the Big Brother show. But please, go and audition. Follow the due process. I auditioned 4 times before I was picked. Keep auditioning even if they reject you. And don’t fall victim of scam by giving anyone money to give a BBNaija slot. Be wise about it,” he said.

  • Zoning not self-defeating but your denial – APC chieftain, Okechukwu replies Atiku

Zoning not self-defeating but your denial – APC chieftain, Okechukwu replies Atiku

A founding member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Osita Okechukwu, on Tuesday dismissed a statement credited to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that zoning is “self-defeating,” stressing that such a stance is a classic case of self-denial.

Okechukwu lamented Atiku’s stance, noting that the former VP, was one of the foremost beneficiaries of zoning within the Nigerian political sphere.

The former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, made his remark known in a state in response to inquiries from journalists on Atiku’s position.

He said: “How can one of the foremost beneficiaries of the zoning convention suddenly deny its profound significance in promoting national cohesion, inclusion, equity, peace, and justice?

“In the public domain there is throughout history the law with its legal teeth and the convention with its moral weight, governing human affairs. If there was no zoning arrangement, could Atiku have become Vice President?

“Has he forgotten why he stormed out of the PDP presidential primary process in 2014 and joined us in APC, after President Goodluck Jonathan emerged as the party’s candidate?”

Commenting further on Atiku’s statement that, “The first and most obvious question is this: how does a Southern opposition candidate realistically unseat a sitting Southern president,” Okechukwu described the remark as regrettably identity politics, “the very tendency the zoning convention was designed to minimise and noted that such rhetoric is least expected from a statesman.”

He further criticised Atiku’s argument that, “By 2027, the South would have held presidential power for approximately 18 years in the Fourth Republic, compared to about 10 years for the North.”

Okechukwu, the statement reflects “selective amnesia, as it ignores the historical reality that Northern Nigeria presided over the affairs of the country for more than four decades since our independence in 1960.

“And equity cannot be discussed in fragments or based on convenient arithmetic.”

  • Akpabio not supposed to be Senate President, fight not yet over  – Oshiomhole

Akpabio not supposed to be Senate President, fight not yet over  – Oshiomhole

Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole has said the current Senate Standing Order prohibits Godswill Akpabio from being Senate President.

Oshiomhole stated this on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.

He said the position of Sen Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, about the Senate Standing Order amendment is correct, adding that the fight is not over.

“The current Senate President served a 4-year term, lost his reelection bid, served as a minister, and returned this term to become Senate President again.

“If you add his first term to his current term, he still has not served 8 years. If 8 years is the minimum requirement, Sen. Akpabio does not qualify to preside because he has not met it.

“If he assumed the role in error, that error must be corrected. Also, the word “consecutively” effectively reduces the Senate President’s term to three years for ranking purposes.

“These kinds of laws are what breed dictatorship in Africa,” Oshiomhole said.

U.S. Confirms Israel Deployed Iron Dome To UAE Amid Iran War

Israel sent the United Arab Emirates an Iron Dome air defense system with troops to operate it early in the war with Iran, two Israeli officials and one U.S. official told Axios.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz on Monday became the first government official to publicly confirm the deployment.

Speaking at an Israeli Independence Day event hosted by the Israeli Mission to the UN in New York, Waltz said: “We saw the UAE make use of the Iron Dome provided to it by Israel.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the deployment of the Iron Dome battery, including interceptors and several dozen operators, following a phone call with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed. It marks the first time the system has been deployed outside Israel or the United States.

Since the beginning of the war, the UAE has been targeted by Iran more than any other country in the region. According to the Emirati Ministry of Defense, Iran fired around 550 ballistic and cruise missiles and more than 2,200 drones at the UAE. Most were intercepted, but some struck military and civilian targets.

According to reports from the Financial Times and Axios, Israel also sent an advanced surveillance system capable of detecting Iranian drones and missiles, as well as a version of its Iron Beam laser-based air defense system, marking a rare operational deployment of one of Israel’s newest defense technologies outside its own borders.

Israel and the UAE signed a peace treaty in 2020 under the Abraham Accords. Both Israeli and Emirati officials say the partnership is currently the closest it has ever been.
