    Anambra Seals Unregistered Health Facilities

The Anambra State Ministry of Health, on Monday, sealed off an unregistered health facility, Vick-Benedict’s Home, at Ifitedunu in Dunukofia LGA.

The State Government also shut down facilities operated by some unauthorised Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs).

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, disclosed this during an enforcement conducted in the area, accompanied by the Director of Medical Services, Dr Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu.

Obidike said the affected facilities were operating without the required registration and approval from the ministry, thereby contravening established healthcare regulations.

According to him, the enforcement is part of the State Government’s ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal health practices and ensure quality healthcare delivery for residents.

“We have ordered the immediate sealing of Vick-Benedict’s Home and directed the operators to report at the Department of Medical Services at the Secretariat, Awka, for further clarification and regulatory action.

“We also inspected and shut down facilities operated by some TBA’s, who are allegedly practising healthcare services without authorisation from the ministry,” Obidike said.

He reiterated Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to sanitising the health sector and ensuring that only licensed and properly regulated health facilities operate in the state.

He warned operators of unregistered hospitals, maternity homes, rehabilitation centres and TBA facilities to regularise their operations in line with government regulations or face closure and possible prosecution.

The commissioner also urged residents to seek medical attention only from registered and accredited health facilities.

He said that the government remained committed to protecting lives through strict enforcement of healthcare standards.

He gave assurance that the ministry would continue to monitor healthcare providers across the state to ensure compliance with extant laws and regulations guiding medical practice.

  • Racism Monitor Urges FIFA To Remove Referee Over ‘White Supremacy’ Gesture

Racism Monitor Urges FIFA To Remove Referee Over ‘White Supremacy’ Gesture

FIFA’s discrimination monitor at the World Cup has called for the removal of a video assistant referee (VAR) after he appeared to make a hand gesture resembling a symbol associated with white supremacy.

During the official broadcast of Germany’s opening match against Curaçao on Sunday, cameras showed the team of VAR officials before kick-off.

Shaun Evans of Australia was seen making an “OK” hand sign with his right hand positioned in front of his leg. Although the match was played in Houston, VAR officials were working from FIFA’s World Cup broadcast centre in Dallas.

The gesture, in which the thumb and forefinger form a circle while the remaining fingers are extended, was added to the Anti-Defamation League’s list of hate symbols in 2019 after being adopted by some far-right groups.

In a statement, the Fare network, a long-time partner of FIFA and UEFA in monitoring racism and discrimination at football matches, said experts believed the gesture closely resembled an upside-down “OK” sign used as a white power symbol in extremist circles.

“Advice from our experts is that the gesture used clearly resembles an upside down ‘OK’ hand symbol used as a ‘white power’ symbol in global far-right circles,” the organisation said.

Fare added that the official should play no further role at the tournament and described the gesture as having neo-Nazi associations.

FIFA was asked to comment on the matter. Football Australia and the Professional Football Referees Association were also contacted for responses.

It remains unclear whether Evans was making a political statement or participating in what is commonly known as the “circle game,” a prank in which a person displays an upside-down OK sign below the waist and playfully challenges others not to look at it.

The gesture was later appropriated by far-right online groups, beginning as a hoax on the message board 4chan before being adopted by some white supremacist movements.

When the Anti-Defamation League classified the symbol as a hate sign in 2019, its Centre on Extremism director, Oren Segal, stressed that context remained crucial in determining whether its use was harmless or hateful.

“There is enough of a volume of use for hateful purposes that we felt it was important to add,” Segal said at the time.

Evans is one of 30 VAR officials selected by FIFA to officiate at the World Cup being hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Fare also questioned why a VAR supervisor would make such a gesture while aware that television cameras were focused on him, noting that broadcasters appeared to stop introducing VAR teams on air during subsequent matches.

Alex Ekubo: Daddy Freeze mocks Nathaniel Bassey over ‘failure’ to perform miracle

Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has mocked gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, over his inability to heal or raise the late actor Alex Ekubo.

DAILY POST reports that Nathaniel Bassey had during Alex’s service of songs last week narrated how he was called by a pastor friend to go and minister to Alex at the hospital.

While revealing that Alex unfortunately died a day before his appointment with him, Nathaniel Bassey noted that he still proceeded to go and pray with the deceased family on the appointed date, which was a day after his death.

Reacting to Nathaniel Bassey’s speech at the event, Daddy Freeze in an Instagram live video over the weekend, said the pastor could have used the opportunity of the visit to bring Alex back to life.

“So we’re sitting down minding our business, and Nathaniel Bassey climbed the pulpit, then he blows the trumpet. Ok, you can signify the trumpet in revelation, linking with the end of the world, it was the end of Alex world, may his soul rest in peace.

“But then he now starts talking and said he has never met Alex before, but then his pastor friend said they should go and pray for Alex and sing for Alex. But they want to go on Tuesday but Alex died on Monday. And then they still went on the Tuesday and still sang and prayed.

“And I’m like really? What happened to all your miracles, healing and your resurrection that you post on your platforms? I would have thought this is an opportunity to show your God’s glory,” Freeze said.

  • Communities Seek Military, Forest Guards Deployment In Borno, Oyo LGAs

Communities Seek Military, Forest Guards Deployment In Borno, Oyo LGAs

    …Bemoan Daily Killings, Abductions

Christian elders from Borno and Adamawa communities have urged the Federal Government to deploy military and forest guards to Sambisa Forest in Borno State and the Old National Park in Oyo State as part of urgent measures to stem terrorism, banditry and recurring abductions.

The call was made at a special prayer gathering convened by leaders of the Marghi ethnic group in Abuja on Sunday.

The plea followed the elders’ three-day fasting and prayer programme for divine intervention and the safe return of abducted children from Askira/Uba local government area of Borno State and Oriire local government area of Oyo State.

The elders expressed concern over the recent wave of kidnappings affecting communities in both states.

They recalled that on May 15, 2026, suspected Boko Haram insurgents reportedly abducted between 42 and 51 children, mostly toddlers and primary school pupils, from Mussa town and surrounding communities of Mussa, Birri and Shikarkir in Askira/Uba local government area of Borno State.

In a separate incident on the same day, bandits reportedly abducted 46 persons, including 18 primary school pupils, seven secondary school students and a two-year-old child, during attacks on Ahoro-Esinele and other communities in the Oriire local government area of Oyo State.

Participants at the prayer session, held at Graceland Park in Abuja, included Christian leaders as well as a group of Muslim elders who attended in solidarity.

They offered prayers for peace and security and called for decisive action against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Marghi community in Abuja, Elder Gambo Kadir said the scale of insecurity in the affected communities was far greater than it’s being reported in the media.

According to him, for every reported incident of insecurity, several others go undocumented, particularly in predominantly Christian communities in Madagali, Gwoza, Askira-Uba and Chibok local government areas.

“Today, we are breaking the three-day fast collectively as a people and crying out to God even as we appeal for greater efforts from the government over the insecurity that has continued to ravage our communities since 2014.

“The frontline local government areas of Askira/Uba, Gwoza, Madagali and Chibok have been experiencing random attacks almost daily, for more than 12 years, and only a fraction of these atrocities are ever reported in the media.

“The recent abduction of children in the Mussa community is the height of such barbaric and wicked attacks that have caused deep pain, despair and hopelessness in the lives of our people, especially parents.

While the affected families are dealing with trauma, the authorities continue to make promises and we continue to feel the anguish,” he said.

Kadir also criticised what he described as the government’s handling of terrorism-related offences.

“The tragedy with Nigeria over the years includes the deliberate downplaying of the havoc that terrorists are causing in this country.

“Instead of dealing with them decisively, they are being pampered through phantom repentance, reintegration and payouts for business start-ups, while those whose parents and children are killed, maimed or abducted are left to languish in pain, anguish and deep grief,” he stated.

The community leader further disclosed that 27 additional persons had recently been abducted in Kirchiga town, Borno State, following the Mussa incident.

He urged the government to adopt a multi-pronged strategy to tackle insecurity in Borno, parts of Adamawa State and other troubled areas in the country.

“We demand the concentrated deployment of the first wave of forest guards to Sambisa Forest and the urgent deployment of additional military personnel to communities bordering the forest, particularly in Madagali, Askira-Uba, Chibok and Gwoza local government areas.

“The government should double its efforts to rescue all Nigerian children currently in captivity. The use of technology is critical in modern security operations, especially for tracking and pursuing terrorists towards securing the release of abducted children and other hostages,” Kadir added.

End insecurity protest: ‘Tinubu rented crowd of counter protesters’ – Falz

Nigerian music star, Folarin Falana, professionally known as Falz, has accused President Bola Tinubu of renting a crowd of counter protesters to oppose the protest against insecurity.

The singer made the claim after his participation in the protest against insecurity in Nigeria tagged #EndInsecurity, three days ago.

DAILY POST reports that the #EndInsecurity protests were held on Nigeria’s Democracy Day, June 12, 2026.

Speaking about the development over the weekend, Falz in an Instagram video, accused the Nigerian government of hiring counter protesters who are mostly women.

The singer lamented, “This is literally the end of us if we allow this to continue.

“Free all captive, end Insecurity now. We stepped out on Friday to protest the worsening level of insecurity and the mass abduction across the country. What was wild to see was that Tinubu and his supporters had rented a crowd of counter protesters, the majority of which were women. These women has children.

“In case you don’t know why we were out there protesting, the children that were taken from the school in Oyo state had not been found. There’s a community called Woro in Kwara state, in February 3rd into 4th this same year by 5:30pm insurgence attacked this community from 5:30pm broad day light into the next morning there was a sustained attack, they massacre about 200 people while about 176 people were taken away and they are still in captivity. There were also attacks in  two communities in Borno that are also in primary and secondary schools. And those children are still not return home.

“It could be your children tomorrow. Just you don’t know what you were doing, this is the breaking point. This is literally the end of us if we allow this to continue. We’ve been complaining of how difficult things are, how high the cost of living is becoming or how are you even going to hustle or make a better living if you’re not even alive.”
