Abiodun commissions Pharma Warehouse, says 30,000 Ogun residents receive free HIV treatment

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that more than 30,000 residents living with HIV are currently receiving free antiretroviral therapy, counselling, and support services in health facilities across the state.

Governor Abiodun made this known on Thursday in Abeokuta during the commissioning of the Pharma-Grade Warehouse of the Ogun State Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency.

He said his administration has recorded significant milestones in the healthcare sector by repositioning the state’s health system for optimal service delivery, urging residents to take advantage of available healthcare services by visiting hospitals for proper diagnosis and treatment.

According to the governor, the state government has continued to strengthen HIV prevention programmes, expand testing services, and implement measures aimed at reducing new infections.

“Today, more than 30,000 residents of Ogun State living with HIV are receiving free antiretroviral therapy, counselling, and support services.

“We continue to strengthen prevention programmes, expand testing services, and reduce new infections,” he said.

Governor Abiodun commended the Global Fund for expanding access to HIV treatment in Nigeria and supporting tuberculosis diagnosis, malaria prevention, as well as the provision of life-saving medicines and health commodities.

He noted that the Fund’s grants have particularly benefited women, children, adolescents, vulnerable groups, and underserved communities.

Describing the newly commissioned warehouse as a strategic investment, the governor said the facility would enhance the storage, management, and distribution of essential medicines and health commodities across the state.

“The facility will strengthen supply chain efficiency, reduce stock-outs, and ensure that medicines and test kits reach healthcare facilities and patients across the 20 local government areas in a timely manner,” he stated.

Abiodun acknowledged that HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria remain significant public health challenges in the state but assured that his administration, working with development partners, is making steady progress through sustained interventions aimed at reducing their impact.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV, the governor said efforts to combat tuberculosis have also been intensified through community outreach programmes, contact tracing, and hotspot mapping.

“Access to diagnostic services, including screening, X-rays, and laboratory testing, has been expanded, while treatment remains free and accessible. Our message is clear: tuberculosis is preventable, detectable, and curable,” he added.

The governor also commended the Federal Government for its efforts in strengthening the health sector and expanding access to quality healthcare, noting that Ogun State would continue to align with the national vision by delivering measurable health outcomes for its citizens.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, said the facility was established to improve the delivery of quality healthcare services across the state.

She commended Governor Abiodun for investing in a High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) machine used for testing the quality of drugs supplied to health facilities and disclosed that the state government plans to deploy technology capable of detecting low stock levels in medical facilities across the state.

In his remarks, the Executive Director of the Global Fund, Peter Sands, described the newly commissioned facility as a critical investment aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring the timely availability of medicines, vaccines, and diagnostic commodities.

Sands revealed that, of the 22 warehouses built across the country, Ogun State’s facility is the largest and best-equipped.

He commended the state’s leadership in the health sector and pledged the Global Fund’s continued support towards improving health outcomes and building a more resilient healthcare system.

Emphasising that the facility was jointly funded by the Global Fund and the Ogun State Government, he said it symbolises the administration’s commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the people and expressed readiness to sustain the partnership with the state.

Nasarawa police arraign 19 offenders, seize 27 vehicles in number plate enforcement drive

The Nasarawa State Police Command has intensified enforcement of vehicle registration regulations across the state, leading to the impoundment of 27 vehicles and the prosecution of 19 motorists for various offences related to unregistered and defaced number plates.
The enforcement exercise, the Command said, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and support crime prevention through strict compliance with vehicle identification laws.

According to the Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement released on Thursday, 18th June, 2026, those arraigned were charged with offences ranging from driving unregistered vehicles and using covered or defaced number plates to operating vehicles with unauthorized foreign registration plates and displaying manufacturer logos instead of approved registration numbers.

Nansel explained that the operation followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ordering a nationwide crackdown on vehicles operating in violation of registration laws.

He noted that unregistered vehicles and obscured number plates pose significant security concerns, as they are frequently used by criminal elements to conceal identities and evade law enforcement agencies.

Speaking on the exercise, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed officers and operatives to sustain enforcement efforts across all parts of the state.

He stressed that the initiative was designed to improve public safety rather than punish law-abiding citizens.

According to the police commissioner, “the initiative is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to enhance public safety and strengthen crime prevention efforts.”

Mohammed urged vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with valid and clearly visible number plates at all times.

He warned that motorists found violating the relevant laws would continue to face arrest and prosecution as the Command remains committed to enforcing compliance.

The Police Command further appealed for public cooperation, noting that effective enforcement of vehicle registration laws is essential to combating crime and improving security across the state.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, while assuring residents that measures aimed at enhancing security would be sustained.

Mark, Aregbesola Storm Ekiti For ADC Governorship Candidate Bejide

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, and the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday led the party’s national leadership to Ado-Ekiti for the grand finale of campaigns ahead of Saturday’s Ekiti governorship election.

The ADC leaders urged residents of the state to seize the opportunity of the election to reclaim their mandate and chart a new course for the state through the ballot box.

At the rally, the party formally presented its governorship candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide, to supporters, describing him as the candidate best positioned to deliver responsive governance and meet the aspirations of the people.

Addressing party faithful, Aregbesola criticised the state of governance in the country, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to address the challenges facing Nigerians.

“Your country has been abducted,” Aregbesola declared, alleging that beyond the ransoms paid to bandits and terrorists, Nigerians were also bearing the burden of poor governance.

According to him, national resources were not being utilised in a manner that reflected the interests and welfare of ordinary citizens.

He called on Nigerians to reject the ruling party at all levels of elections and take responsibility for changing the nation’s political direction.

Also speaking at the rally, Mark said the people of Ekiti deserved a government that reflected their aspirations and delivered meaningful development.

“After so many years, the people of Ekiti deserve the governor of their dreams. Come out en masse and vote for your candidate. I believe that by your votes, we shall return here for the inauguration of the new government that will be elected,” he said.
