Police Foil Plot To Sell Newborn Baby By 21 Year Old Woman In Anambra

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to Oyi Divisional Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence, on 19th June 2026 successfully foiled an alleged attempt by a 21-year-old woman to sell her newborn baby. The Police promptly secured both the mother and her infant daughter and facilitated their reunion with family members to ensure proper care, protection, and support.

The intervention followed a report from a concerned citizen, which led officers to a location in Igbariam, where the young mother and her newborn baby were found. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had concealed both her pregnancy and delivery from her parents. It was further gathered that she had left her family home in Imo State and sought refuge with a friend residing in Igbariam before the alleged plan was uncovered.

In the course of the operation, the Police immediately contacted the young woman’s parents, who responded without delay. Following their arrival, the mother and child were reunited with the family to guarantee adequate care, supervision, and emotional support while investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, commended the vigilance and sense of responsibility demonstrated by the complainant and other members of the public whose timely information contributed significantly to the successful intervention.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children from all forms of abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and neglect. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue partnering with law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities within their communities.

The Command assures the public that investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that any individual found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Sunday Igboho Gives Fulani Leaders Ultimatum Over Abducted Residents

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has demanded the immediate release of residents abducted in Igboho, Oyo State, giving Fulani leaders in the community a two-hour deadline to ensure the victims regain their freedom.

The ultimatum was issued on Saturday during a meeting held at the palace of the traditional ruler of Igboho, attended by community chiefs, Fulani elders and officers from the divisional police command.

Addressing those present in Yoruba, Igboho blamed suspected Fulani herders for a string of kidnappings in the area, alleging that the activities of the criminal elements had continued unchecked despite repeated complaints by residents.

He cited the killing of a pregnant woman and the latest abduction involving a woman, her children and a sibling as evidence of worsening insecurity in the community.

According to him, the kidnappers initially requested N300m from the victims’ relatives before reducing the ransom demand to N150m.

The activist, however, rejected the payment of any ransom and insisted that the abducted persons must be freed within two hours.

“I am giving them two hours. They must return the woman, her children and sibling whom they kidnapped overnight. If I don’t see them within those two hours, we will clash,” he declared.

Igboho further warned that he and his supporters would move against a forest reserve he claimed was being used as a hideout by the kidnappers if the captives were not released.

“That forest reserve where they camp, we are coming there. We will invade that forest. Since they have said they won’t live with us in peace, we too will fight with everything we have,” he said.

He appealed to Fulani leaders in the town to prevail on those behind the abductions, maintaining that the perpetrators were known within the community.

Igboho also said he had previously exercised restraint out of respect for community leaders but noted that the recent incidents had become intolerable.

Residents were seen gathered outside the palace during the meeting as anxiety over the rising wave of kidnappings persisted.

The latest development comes as concerns continue to mount over insecurity in Oyo State, with 39 pupils and seven teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area still being held captive.

  • World Cup 2026: Almiron becomes first player to receive red card for covering his mouth

World Cup 2026: Almiron becomes first player to receive red card for covering his mouth

Former Premier League player, Miguel Almiron has made history as the first individual to receive a red card at the World Cup for covering his mouth during a match.

In light of the new FIFA regulations implemented for the tournament in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, the football governing body had stated that ‘any player who covers their mouth in a confrontational situation with an opponent may face a red card sanction.’

Paraguay faced Turkey in the early hours of Saturday morning in a crucial match following their defeat to the USA on the opening day.

The South American team took the lead just two minutes into the match with a goal from Matias Galarza, but they were reduced to ten players just before half-time. They managed to hold on and secure a vital three points.

It was Almiron who etched this unfortunate record with his red card.

The former Newcastle United player turned to Turkey’s Mert Mulder, covering his mouth with his hand during their conversation.

Mulder quickly moved away to alert the match officials, prompting a VAR review.

The referee had no option but to issue a red card to Almiron.

The new regulation does not prohibit players from covering their mouths entirely; they are still allowed to do so with teammates, for instance, during free kick situations to prevent the opposing team from discerning who will take the set piece.

FIFA’s prohibition applies specifically when the action occurs in a ‘confrontational situation.’

Paraguay’s coach, Gustavo Alfaro, refrained from commenting on the red card decision but said that he felt ‘as if everything was conspiring’ against his team during the match.

Despite the dismissal, Paraguay’s victory enhanced their chances of advancing to the knockout stages of the World Cup.

They will face Australia next Thursday in their final group match, which is expected to be a decisive contest for qualifying as group runners-up behind the USA.

Conversely, Turkey has been eliminated after suffering defeats in their first two matches.
