Ekiti 2026: Yiaga Africa releases report on voter turn out

Yiaga Africa has expressed concern regarding the low voter turnout for the Ekiti governorship election that took place on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The election monitoring organization indicated that its preliminary estimates suggest that the turnout for this election ranged from 34.0% to 38.1%, based on data it gathered from polling units utilizing the Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT) election observation methodology.

Consequently, Yiaga stated, “If INEC’s official turnout aligns with WTV’s estimated range, it accurately reflects the turnout of voters at polling units. These estimates are derived from reports from 246 to 250 (98%) sampled polling units in Ekiti State.”

Yiaga Africa noted that it utilized the Process and Results Verification for Transparency, PRVT, methodology and deployed 250 observers along with 22 mobile observers throughout all 16 local government areas, LGAs, in addition to 16 LGA results collation observers.

APC retains Kebbi Assembly seat as Aiki wins Zuru bye-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has retained the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly following the victory of its candidate, Rabiu Garba Aiki, in Saturday’s bye-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Aiki winner of the poll after the conclusion of collation at the Zuru collation centre.

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, said the APC candidate scored 4,871 votes to defeat Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who polled 168 votes.

Danladi disclosed that 109,385 voters were registered in the constituency, while 5,156 were accredited to participate in the exercise. He added that 5,055 valid votes were recorded, with 95 ballots declared invalid.

The bye-election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly and member representing Zuru State Constituency, Mohammed Usman Zuru.

Although the election was conducted peacefully, turnout remained low in many polling units across the constituency, with the APC maintaining a comfortable lead from the early stages of collation.

Aiki’s victory ensures that the ruling party retains control of the Zuru State Constituency seat in the state legislature.

VIDEO: Oyo Community Celebrates As Abducted Family Regains Freedom

Residents of Igboho in Oyo State erupted in jubilation after an abducted family, comprising a pregnant woman, her children and another relative, reportedly regained their freedom hours after Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, issued an ultimatum demanding their release.

Videos shared online captured scenes of celebration, with residents singing and dancing as the victims returned to the community.

The reported release followed a warning by Sunday Igboho over worsening insecurity and repeated abduction incidents in the area.

In an earlier video that gained traction on social media, the activist addressed traditional rulers and representatives of the Fulani community, expressing outrage over alleged cases of kidnapping and killings in Igboho.

He alleged that some Fulani residents were involved in the abductions and cited an incident in which a ransom bearer was reportedly killed while only one person was spared.

According to him, such incidents would no longer be tolerated.

Igboho subsequently gave a two-hour deadline for the release of those still in captivity, saying he had exercised restraint out of respect for appeals from traditional leaders.

He warned that he would take further action if the victims were not freed, including moving against locations believed to be connected to the kidnappings.

“I am giving them two hours. They must return the woman, her children and siblings whom they kidnapped overnight. If I don’t see them within those two hours, we will clash,” Igboho declared.

Shortly after the ultimatum, videos emerged showing jubilant residents celebrating what they described as the return of the kidnapped family.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the victims’ release had not been independently verified as of the time this report was filed.
