Delta State government has denied reoorts that it invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to screen civil servants.
The Delta State Head of Service, HOS, Mrs Mininim Oseji, made the clarification on Monday during a press briefing in Asaba while announcing the activities for the 2026 Civil Service Week celebration, themed, ‘Reforms, Resilience and Results’.
Oseji clarified that the government did not invite the anti-graft agency to conduct the exercise, explaining that the EFCC initiated the screening as part of its nationwide efforts to investigate payroll systems and address concerns about ghost workers in the public service.
She said the EFCC formally wrote to the state government requesting access to payroll records and nominal rolls from selected Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs.
“When EFCC delivered the letter requesting that they wanted to screen some MDAs, I forwarded it to His Excellency, the governor, and sought guidance on our response.
“The governor directed that we should cooperate fully because Delta state has nothing to hide, and noted that the state government subsequently approved the request and designated a senior official to coordinate the exercise and facilitate interactions between the EFCC team and the affected MDAs,” the HOS said.
Oseji stressed that the exercise should not be viewed as punitive but rather as a measure aimed at strengthening confidence in the civil service.
She disclosed further that her office was among those selected for screening and she personally participated in the verification exercise despite suggestions that she could be exempted.
“As the number one civil servant in the state, I wanted to lead by example, l provided my letter of first appointment, documents and my most recent appointment letter, the officials were satisfied with the documentation,” Oseji stated.
She maintained that the Office of the HOS has been receiving regular updates on the screening process and that no complaints or adverse findings had been reported so far.
Speaking on workers’ welfare, Oseji revealed that the government had submitted proposals for an upward review of the workers’ loan scheme and was awaiting approval from the state governor.
She explained that several reforms had been introduced to improve transparency in the loan disbursement process, including the publication of beneficiaries’ names and expected payment dates to ensure fairness and reduce complaints.

The Nigerian Army on Monday said troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, killed two suspected bandits and rescued kidnapped victims during coordinated operations carried out in Sokoto and Katsina states.
The operations, conducted over two days, began in Sokoto State on June 21, 2026, and culminated in Katsina State on June 22, where two terrorists were neutralised.
The Media Information Officer, Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the sustained offensive against terrorism and banditry in the North-West had recorded significant successes.
Giving details of the operation, Danja said, “The first of these decisive encounters occurred on 21 June 2026, when armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State.
“The vigilant troops engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon their sinister mission and flee.
“Following this initial encounter, aerial surveillance tracked the fleeing terrorists to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were observed moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock.
“Despite encountering a hastily mounted ambush by the retreating terrorists, the troops displayed exceptional courage and superior firepower, fighting through the ambush and compelling the criminals to scatter.
“This led to the successful rescue of the abductees, the recovery of the rustled cattle and the seizure of two motorcycles used by the terrorists.”
In a related development, Danja disclosed that troops, acting on intelligence, raided a known terrorist hideout in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State in the early hours of June 22.
“The surprise assault completely overwhelmed the terrorists. During the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds,” he said.
According to him, troops recovered one PKT assault rifle, one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile communication devices, rustled livestock and other items used by the terrorists to sustain their operations.
He assured residents that the military would sustain aggressive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, denying criminals freedom of action and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West.

A former All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant in Kwara South, Sola Ajimati, on Monday called on Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to urgently initiate reconciliation efforts within the ruling party amid growing concerns over internal divisions, unresolved primary election disputes and emerging security challenges in the state.
In an open letter addressed to the governor, Ajimati warned that the APC in Kwara State was approaching a critical moment that required deliberate efforts to foster unity, inclusion and broader stakeholder engagement to preserve the party’s cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.
The appeal comes amid ongoing political realignments within the state’s APC following the emergence of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the party’s governorship candidate, and concerns among some party members over their level of participation in key decision-making processes.
Ajimati acknowledged AbdulRazaq’s contributions to the development of Kwara State but stressed that sustaining the gains recorded under the administration would require a more inclusive approach to party management.
He said, “As our great party looks ahead to future electoral cycles, including governorship and national elections, and in the wake of the emergence of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, as the APC governorship candidate, there is an increasing concern among stakeholders regarding perceived exclusion from critical party decision-making processes.
“While acknowledging the strides recorded under your leadership, it is imperative to emphasise that sustaining and building upon these gains will require deeper unity, broader inclusion, and more deliberate consultation with all stakeholders across the party structure.”
Drawing lessons from political developments in other states, Ajimati cited the re-election of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji as evidence that consultation and consensus-building remain crucial ingredients for electoral success.
He contrasted the Ekiti experience with political developments in neighbouring Osun State, where internal disagreements within the ruling party contributed to electoral setbacks.
“The re-election of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of Ekiti State stands as a strong testament to the power of unity, inclusion, consultation, and sustained stakeholder engagement.
“In contrast, the experience of Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, former Governor of Osun State, highlights the risks associated with unresolved internal disagreements, perceived exclusion, and insufficient stakeholder engagement,” he stated.
The APC chieftain also revisited concerns surrounding the Kwara South Senatorial Primary Election conducted on May 18, 2026, in which he participated as an aspirant.
According to him, questions remain over the conduct of the exercise and the collation of results across the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
“These concerns relate to reported irregularities, inconsistencies in results, and discrepancies observed during collation across the seven Local Government Areas of Kwara South. These matters have already been formally submitted to the appropriate party organs for review,” he said.
Ajimati further argued that the outcome of the exercise should be subjected to a transparent review to strengthen confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes.
“As it stands, the official outcome of the exercise remains subject to clarification and resolution, pending a transparent and credible review of the collation process to ensure fairness and uphold the integrity of our party’s internal democracy,” he added.
The former aspirant also referenced the political experience of former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, whose failed bid for a second term in 2018 was widely linked to internal party disagreements.
To address the growing concerns, Ajimati urged Governor AbdulRazaq to convene a broad-based stakeholders’ meeting involving governorship and senatorial aspirants, party leaders, youth groups and other critical stakeholders.
“I respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to convene a comprehensive stakeholders’ meeting involving governorship and senatorial aspirants, party leaders, respected youth groups, and other critical stakeholders across all levels of the party structure.
“I further recommend the establishment of an independent reconciliation and consultation committee to engage party stakeholders, address grievances, rebuild trust, strengthen cohesion, and reinforce internal unity within the APC in Kwara State,” he stated.
Beyond internal party matters, he expressed concern over what he described as emerging security challenges in parts of the state, stressing that unity among political actors was necessary to confront such threats effectively.
The letter is expected to fuel ongoing conversations within the Kwara APC over party cohesion and the management of internal disputes as preparations gradually gather momentum for future electoral contests.
