How Four Nigerian States Spent Over N500bn To Float Airlines

Four Nigerian states Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Enugu, and Bayelsa have spent an estimated N500 billion on airlines, with Ogun, Anambra and Lagos also planning their own carriers.

Spending includes N10bn for Ibom Air, $32.5m for Cally Air’s fleet, N62bn for Enugu Air, and N25bn budgeted for Pioneer Aircosts still rising.

Only Ibom Air has opened its books, reporting N96bn in revenue and N6.8bn net profit in 2025. Enugu Air projects N60bn net profit over four years.

Experts warn Nigeria’s market serving a stagnant 15 million passengers may be too small for 15 carriers, questioning whether states that can’t pay salaries should invest billions in airlines.

W/Cup: Algeria Win Keeps Hope Alive, Mbappe Hits Brace For France

Algeria kept their 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes alive with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over debutants Jordan in a Group J encounter in Santa Clara.

Following their 0-3 loss to Lionel Messi’s Argentina in their opener, Algeria bounced back, while Jordan impressed once again, despite succumbing to their second successive loss in this tournament. The result means Argentina are guaranteed to top Group J.

Meanwhile, in a World Cup match that was delayed for over two hours because of thunder and lightning in the Philadelphia area, it was France star Kylian Mbappé who made it rain while the game was being played.

The France star scored twice — once before and once after the weather delay — as the 2018 World Cup champions cruised to an easy 3-0 win against an overmatched Iraq team.

The brace took Mbappé’s total to four goals for this year’s tournament, but perhaps more impressively it put him at 16 career World Cup goals — level with Germany legend Miroslav Klose, whose all-time goals record was equaled and then broken by Lionel Messi over the course of Argentina’s first two games.

However, the Real Madrid star said there was no competition with Messi, and it wasn’t something he usually thought about.

Mbappé also moved ahead of Brazil great Ronaldo, who has 15, with his record sixth multigoal World Cup game.

All-time leader Messi, who scored twice in a win over Austria earlier Monday, now sits alone at 18 with Mbappé 11 years his junior and making his 100th international appearance for France , hot on his heels.

France would now return to Philadelphia to play Germany on July 4, with six points from two games after beating Senegal 3-1 in their opener.

Didier Deschamps’ side is assured of a spot in the knockout rounds, but its group stage finale against Norway will likely decide who tops the group.

OPC Chieftain, Two Others Abducted While Delivering ₦30m Ransom In Kwara State.

Confusion and concern have gripped Oko-Irese in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of an Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) chieftain, Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, and two other persons by Armed bandits

According to sources, Fabiyi was abducted alongside a driver and another associate while on a mission to deliver ransom and other items intended to secure the release of a previously kidnapped victim.

The team was said to be conveying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice when armed bandits ambushed them in the area.

Findings revealed that the ransom delivery was part of efforts to negotiate the release of a victim who had earlier been abducted in the same community.

However, sources close to the incident disclosed that the kidnapped victim may have already been k!!led by the abductors before the ransom team arrived, a development that was reportedly unknown to those sent on the mission.

The gunmen were said to have instructed the team to proceed into a forested area along the Kwara-Kogi axis before seizing them at gunpoint.

It was further gathered that the OPC chieftain had sought spiritual consultation before embarking on the journey and was warned against making the trip. Despite the warning, he proceeded with the mission.

A source familiar with the matter also claimed that the incident was not immediately reported to security agencies.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, while efforts to secure the release of the abducted persons are said to be ongoing.

US names ISIS money movers in Nigeria, others

The United States has released the names of individuals and entities connected with ISIS financial networks, in furtherance of the Trump Administration’s fight against global terrorism financing.

The designations announced on Monday affect three men and six businesses “who have enabled ISIS to move money across borders.” They operate in Europe, the Middle East, and West Africa.

Washington says by crippling the web, which spans from France and Syria to Türkiye and Nigeria, the U.S. is cutting off funds that enable ISIS to execute attacks, support its regional affiliates, and threaten civilians, including religious minorities.

The targets include a Nigerian whose money exchange firms served as conduits for ISIS financing, a French man who provided information on explosives to ISIS supporters, and a Syrian who used crypto to transfer funds on behalf of ISIS allies.

The American government reaffirmed its strong partnership with Nigeria, which joined the U.S. in the May 16, 2026, operation that resulted in the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the number two official in ISIS.

The United States’ unrelenting pressure on ISIS, according to the State Department, continues to decentralize its operations and rely on financial intermediaries to connect its global network.

“We will continue to use every diplomatic and legal tool available to hold ISIS and its supporters accountable – wherever they operate and however they move money,” the statement reads.

The Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has published the details of companies and three nationals now regarded as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT).

The Nigerian is Muhammad Mukhtar Adamu, linked to ISIS-West Africa. Born 02 (alt 03) August 1990, Muhammad’s home address shows he resides in the Agege area of Lagos.

The Syrian is Abdelhakim Boukich a.k.a. Babili Muhammad, DOB 15 Dec 1993; alt. DOB 01 Jan 1991. The French is Abderrahmane Miloud a.k.a. Ghazi Ibrahim, DOB August 1992. Both are linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
