Xiaomi Unveils Xiaomi 17T Series, Bringing Dual Sizes, Telephoto Capabilities Across the Lineup, and Leica Live Moment

Xiaomi today unveiled the latest additions to its T Series smartphone lineup with the brand new Xiaomi 17T Series, including Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro in Nigeria. Combining an advanced Leica 5x telephoto camera and eye-care display with an ultra-large capacity battery, Xiaomi 17T Series comes as an imaging flagship encased in a refined design. Introducing dual sizes to the T Series for the first time, this lineup is set to deliver an exceptional experience, crafted for modern users.

Transform moments into living stories with The Telephoto Master and Leica Live Moment

Combining Leica optics with Xiaomi’s cutting-edge imaging technology, Xiaomi 17T Series features a triple camera system headlined by a 50MP main camera designed to capture crystal-clear images. Inside lies an ultra-large 1/1.31-inch sensor in Xiaomi 17T Pro and a 1/1.55-inch sensor in Xiaomi 17T. Both combine Leica UltraPure optical design with a 1G + 6P hybrid Leica Summilux lens structure, renowned for rendering fine detail with exceptional clarity. The large aperture across the series delivers superior dynamic range and beautifully rendered depth of field.

For the first time, Xiaomi 17T Series brings the Leica 5x telephoto camera to both models in the T series, redefining versatility across the lineup. It delivers 50MP images with OIS and exceptional range, from intricate details captured via 30cm macro photography to 10x optical-grade zoom and up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom. This enables seamless shooting from near to far, giving creators flexibility across focal lengths. Beyond photography, the telephoto system also enhances videography, particularly on Xiaomi 17T Pro, which introduces Xiaomi Series smartphones’ first 4K 60fps cinematic recording, delivering natural background bokeh for a more immersive visual experience. Specialized modes such as Stage further improve performance in complex lighting conditions across both photo and video, helping ensure concerts, performances, and other scenes are captured with clarity.

Moving beyond traditional still photography, Xiaomi 17T Series introduces Leica Live Moment, capturing not only the decisive instant, but also the motion and emotion that lead up to it. Leica Live Moment preserves movements and fleeting expressions, adding greater depth and context to everyday scenes. Supported across all rear camera focal lengths, Leica Live Moment delivers dynamic imaging infused with Leica’s signature aesthetic, ensuring a consistent visual style across perspectives. The result is more expressive, nuanced storytelling beyond a single frame, capturing emotion and narrative in every shot.

Leica Live Portrait extends this capability into Portrait mode, adding a natural bokeh effect that enhances subject separation while retaining the fluidity of motion. Newly designed exclusive Leica watermarks are available for Leica Live Moment captures, and multiple moments can be combined into shareable collages for social platforms.

  • Ekiti 2026 election wake up call to politicians, parties – Lagos APC chieftain

Ekiti 2026 election wake up call to politicians, parties – Lagos APC chieftain

A chieftain of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Seye Oladejo, has said the just-concluded governorship election in Ekiti State is a wake-up call to all politicians and political parties in Nigeria.

Oladejo said the election has shown that elections are won at the polling units through Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, and not on social media.

Oladejo said the election was a reminder that while social media remains an important platform for political engagement, opinion moulding and information dissemination, it is not a substitute for grassroots political mobilisation, voter education and the painstaking task of earning the trust and confidence of the electorate.

In a statement he signed tagged, ‘Ekiti 2026: When the PVC Defeated Social Media Hype’, Oladejo said: “The outcome of the Ekiti State governorship election has once again reinforced a timeless lesson in democratic politics: elections are won at the polling units by voters armed with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), not on social media timelines dominated by hashtags and viral sentiments.

“The election serves as a fitting reminder that while social media remains an important platform for political engagement, opinion moulding, and information dissemination, it is not a substitute for grassroots political mobilisation, voter education, and the painstaking task of earning the trust and confidence of the electorate.

“For too long, there has been a growing tendency in our political environment to mistake digital popularity for electoral strength. A loud online presence, trending conversations, and coordinated social media campaigns may create an illusion of widespread support, but the ultimate test of political relevance lies in the ability to convert goodwill into actual votes.”

He noted that the just-concluded governorship election in Ekiti State has reinforced the believe that an average electorate is becoming independent-minded.

Oladejo said: “The Ekiti governorship election has once again demonstrated that the average Nigerian voter is discerning and increasingly independent-minded. The people evaluate candidates not merely on the basis of online narratives but on competence, credibility, track record, and their perceived capacity to address the pressing challenges confronting society.

“This election has also reaffirmed the enduring relevance of political structures and community engagement. Democracy is fundamentally a people-driven process that thrives on direct interaction, door-to-door campaigns, stakeholder consultations, and consistent engagement with the electorate. Political parties that neglect grassroots mobilisation in favour of social media grandstanding do so at their own peril.

“The lesson from Ekiti extends beyond the state’s boundaries. It is particularly instructive as political actors begin to intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections. The temptation to confuse digital activism with electoral supremacy must be resisted. Social media can amplify messages, shape narratives, and energise supporters, but it cannot replace the indispensable role of PVCs and active voter participation.

“The election result is therefore a triumph of democratic participation and a victory for citizens who exercised their civic responsibility peacefully and responsibly. It is a testament to the fact that democracy belongs to those who participate, not merely to those who comment from the sidelines.”

He insisted that the experience gathered from the Ekiti State governorship election would serve as a wakeup call for politicians and political parties ahead of the upcoming off-cycle elections.

“As we move closer to another electoral cycle, the Ekiti experience should serve as a wake-up call to politicians and political parties across the country. The road to electoral success remains what it has always been: building trust among the people, articulating credible programmes, maintaining an effective grassroots presence, and encouraging citizens to obtain and use their Permanent Voters Cards.

“Ultimately, the Ekiti State governorship election will be remembered not simply for who won and who lost, but for the powerful message it delivered to Nigeria’s political class-that in a democracy, the Permanent Voters Card remains more potent than social media hype. The ballot, not the hashtag, remains the true currency of political power,” he added.

A prominent leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, in Kwara State, Bayo Fabiyi, has been abducted by bandits while on a mission to deliver N30 million ransom and other items demanded for the release of an abducted victim in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area, DAILY POST reports.

The abduction of the OPC leader and two others occurred on Monday.

Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Security network, Comrade Zubair Olaitan, confirmed the development to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

Olaitan commended security forces battling armed bandits along Kwara and Kogi border areas, noting that they have been doing their best to checkmate the activities of the criminal elements.

However, noted that more needs to be done in terms of adequate logistics.

A member of the group, who also confirmed the abduction, assured that the abducted leader would soon regain his freedom from the bandits’ captivity.

The bandits had demanded N30 million ransom, five motorcycles and three bags of rice for the release of the abducted victim, which the OPC leader and two others went to deliver leading to their abduction by the hoodlums.

According to informed sources, Fabiyi had consulted a female OPC spiritualist, who cautioned him against the mission.

“The OPC woman warned Fabiyi not to go on the mission because she saw him tied by the armed bandits.

“To our surprise, our boss went ahead on the dangerous mission, we didn’t even know until the abduction occurred,” one of the sources claimed.

However, the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, in a telephone chat with our correspondent, said, “I am not aware of kidnap incident.”
