Nollywood Actor Joseph Momodu Enlists In US Army

Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has announced his enlistment into the United States Army, describing the achievement as the fulfilment of a long-held dream and a way of honouring his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force.

Momodu announced in an Instagram post on Friday, where he reflected on the challenges and sacrifices that accompanied his military training.

According to the actor, the journey tested his physical and mental endurance, pushing him through months of rigorous drills, fatigue, and isolation.

“From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits.

“This particular one was forged through tears, fear of failure, resilience, endless days, short nights, fatigue, rain, and the scorching sun,” he wrote.

He revealed that despite moments of uncertainty, he remained determined to complete the programme.

“There were moments of doubt and times I questioned myself, ‘who sent me a message sef’ But I never lost sight of the finish line.

“We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier.

“Ten weeks of being incommunicado. Ten weeks of learning to find comfort in discomfort.”

Momodu said he deliberately chose April 12, 2026, to commemorate the memory of his father, who passed away 20 years ago, by continuing the family’s tradition of service.

“On April 12, 2026, I honored my late father in a historic way. Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army,” he said.

The actor disclosed that he has successfully graduated from Basic Combat Training and now serves as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

He dedicated the accomplishment to God, his late father, and his family.

“I dedicate this achievement first to God Almighty for the grace to pass my ASVAB on the first attempt and complete Basic Combat Training. Secondly, to my late father, whose legacy I proudly uphold. And finally, to the Royal Family of Oba Momodu II, the Avyuele Clan, Agbede, Etsako West, Edo State,” he noted.

Momodu also expressed appreciation to those who supported him throughout the enlistment process, including his social media manager and the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California.

“This chapter is written. The next one begins now,” he added.

  • Read Food Labels Before Buying, NAFDAC Urges Nigerians

Read Food Labels Before Buying, NAFDAC Urges Nigerians

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged Nigerians to make reading food labels a habit before buying and consuming packaged foods to support healthier dietary choices and reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, gave the advice in Abuja on Friday at the launch of the Read the Food Label Campaign, organised by NAFDAC in collaboration with the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa, the World Health Organisation, the University of Abuja and other development partners.

Adeyeye said food labels provide consumers with information on the nutritional content and safety of products, adding that such details should be considered before purchase and consumption.

According to her, the campaign was designed to help consumers understand food labels and make healthier food choices amid the growing burden of diet-related diseases.

She stressed that food labels are not merely regulatory requirements but important public health tools that provide consumers with critical information about the nutritional content and safety of food products.

“Today marks another significant milestone in our collective efforts to protect and promote the health of Nigerians by empowering consumers with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed food choices.

“The ability of consumers to understand, interpret and apply information on food labels has never been more important. Reading food labels should become a shared responsibility. Everyone who purchases food should make it a habit to read food labels before making a purchase,” Adeyeye said.

The NAFDAC boss recalled that her son’s childhood reaction to a food additive inspired her to develop the habit of checking food labels whenever she shops.

“My son reacted to a food additive when he was very young. That experience made me develop the habit of reading food labels because I wanted to ensure my family stayed healthy. Whenever I go shopping, I immediately check the sugar content, sodium level and other nutritional information,” she said.

She warned that excessive consumption of foods high in sugar, salt, saturated fats and trans fats has contributed to rising cases of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and other diet-related illnesses in Nigeria.

She also cited data from the World Health Organisation, stating that non-communicable diseases account for about 29 per cent of all deaths in Nigeria, with cardiovascular diseases responsible for the largest share.

According to her, the Read the Food Label Campaign is a long-term public health intervention designed to build a culture of reading food labels and using nutritional information to make healthier dietary choices.

Also speaking at the event, the Lead Investigator on Cardiovascular Health at the University of Abuja, Prof. Dike Ojji, said unhealthy diets have become a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases and other chronic illnesses in Nigeria.

According to him, the university has played a leading role in generating research evidence that informed national policies on nutrient profiling and front-of-pack food labelling.

“The University of Abuja has been at the forefront of ensuring proper food labelling in Nigeria. Our research findings have been highly valuable in developing national policies on nutrient profiling and front-of-pack food labelling,” Ojji said, adding that the institution would continue to support efforts aimed at improving public awareness and promoting healthier food choices among Nigerians.

The President of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Prof. Salisu Maiwada, also pledged the society’s support for the initiative, stating that nutrition professionals across the country would drive awareness campaigns in schools, communities and local government areas.

  • Ogidi Confident PDP Will Defeat APC In 2027

Ogidi Confident PDP Will Defeat APC In 2027

PDP chieftain, Emmanuel Ogidi, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will overcome its internal challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the PDP is the only party capable of defeating the ruling APC.

Speaking during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday , Ogidi maintained that there is only one legitimate PDP leadership, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), and dismissed rival groups within the party as individuals working for the APC.

On the party’s leadership crisis, he stated:

“There’s one PDP and that’s the one headed by Tanimu Turaki. The other group is not known to the PDP. They are working for the APC.”

Addressing concerns over the prolonged internal dispute, Ogidi insisted the matter would soon be resolved through the courts.

“It will be resolved. We are following due process and very soon it will be clear to everybody.”

On the APC’s alleged role in the PDP’s crisis, he said:

“The only party that can defeat the APC is the PDP. That is why they are doing everything possible to weaken us but by the grace of God, Nigerians will stand behind the PDP.”

Speaking on the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections despite recent defections, Ogidi said:

“Yes, we have lost governors but many of those who left still have PDP in their DNA. They will come back.”

On public confidence in the party, he urged Nigerians to remain patient.

“Nigerians should still be patient with us. We are convinced we are doing the right thing and we are working to resolve every challenge.”

Addressing concerns about the electoral environment ahead of the polls, Ogidi argued that widespread hardship would shape voters’ decisions.

“You cannot politicize hunger. You cannot politicize insecurity. Nigerians have seen everything and they will express their anger on election day.”

On whether the PDP remains prepared for the elections despite the legal disputes, he stated:

“We have our governorship candidates, National Assembly candidates and House of Assembly candidates. We are set and waiting for INEC to do what is right.”

Concluding, Ogidi maintained that despite the party’s challenges, the PDP remains confident of emerging stronger ahead of the next general elections.

“We are not sleeping. We will not disclose everything we are doing but we are confident that Nigerians will stand with the PDP when the time comes.”
