Some members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum has passed a vote of confidence in its chairman and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, with 18 governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress dismissing speculations about moves to replace him and reaffirming their support for his leadership.

The vote of confidence followed reports of an alleged leadership change within the forum.

On Thursday night, some members reportedly announced the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, as the new leader of the group.

Speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting at the Imo Lodge on Friday, the 18 governors physically present reaffirmed their support for Uzodimma’s leadership.

The governors present at the meeting included those of Ondo, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue and Jigawa states, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor.

The Taraba State governor attended briefly before departing after a short meeting with the host governor.

Moving the motion for the vote of confidence, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, stated that Uzodimma and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, remain the chairman and deputy chairman of the forum, respectively.

Idris said, “We don’t have any problem to justify what they have said. So, I want to seize this opportunity to move a vote of confidence in our chairman and his deputy.”

Also speaking, Sani said, “What I can say here is that all of us woke up to that very unfortunate story, which was virtually in all the media in Nigeria. But the truth of the matter is that the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum is very united.

“We are stronger now than at any other time. And, of course, we are all supporting the President for what he has been doing.

“We also want to assure everyone that the APC is united, the governors are united, the forum is united, and there is no problem at all.”

Dismissing reports of division within the APC, the forum’s chairman stated that the party remains united, focused and committed to its forthcoming primaries.

He said, “Governors of the All Progressives Congress are united and resolved to support the President and ensure that he emerges successfully in the upcoming elections in January 2027.

“So, we have decided to work harder, look after our people, demonstrate performance, and provide all the necessary social interventions that will make Nigerians happy. That is, in fact, the resolution we came up with this afternoon.”

The Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, has urged the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to delete his record and information from the register and website of the party.

Fadeyi, who represents Ona Ara State Constituency, made the declaration in his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 8, Ona Ara Local Government Area.

The letter was made available to DAILY POST on Friday.

Fadeyi, in the letter, noted that he resigned from the PDP due to the prolonged internal crisis within the party.

The lawmaker, while speaking, urged the PDP to delete his record and information from the register and website of the party.

He added that he dumped the PDP in order to realise his political ambition in another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fadeyi, in the statement, said: “I wish to write to inform you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the lingering and unresolved internal crisis rocking the party.

“Kindly delete my record and information from the party register and website completely. This is to allow me to complete and advance my political interest on another platform. I sincerely appreciate and am grateful for everything I have been able to achieve with the party.

“Accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo faced off at the pinnacle of football for many years.

Fans watched with bated breath as “La Pulga” and CR7 consistently tried to outdo one another.

In a recent interview on Argentine television, Messi reflected on his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi and Ronaldo encountered each other more frequently as adversaries during their tenures at Barcelona and Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

“What transpired was a remarkable sporting rivalry,” Messi told Polloalvarezok.

“It is a natural occurrence in football. I was with Barcelona while he was with Real Madrid, and we were competing for everything, both as a team and individually, which led to constant comparisons between us.

“However, our relationship was always positive and respectful, and everything that unfolded was strictly athletic. There was nothing personal.

“We did not often meet outside matches or award ceremonies, and we maintained a cordial relationship.

“Now we find ourselves in different phases of our lives, but what transpired was indeed a remarkable sporting rivalry.”

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, has commenced a comprehensive medical assessment exercise for its officers.

The Commissioner of Police, who addressed journalists shortly after observing the exercise at the Maitama Area Command on Friday, said all personnel across the territory would be assessed.

According to him, the exercise was aimed at evaluating the health and stress levels of all officers attached to the command, which, according to him, would in turn improve their performance.

The CP further stated that under his leadership, the command would “ensure that every officer and man is routinely checked.

“We plan to do this consistently. The medical evaluation covers everything about the status of the officers and men of the FCT Command,” he said.

The police boss further stated that the command “intends to evaluate their mental status and assess their various stress levels so that medical experts can advise them accordingly.

“At least, under my watch, this is going to be a continuous exercise. We are also advising that even in their private capacities, they can as well get themselves checked, but officially, we will continue to do this.”

CP Sanusi assured that when the first phase is concluded, officers “will assemble again and still be screened because, at times, medical issues are spontaneous. You might be well today and next month, you are not well.”

Assuring the confidentiality of the outcome of the medical exercise, the CP opined that “the intention is not punitive. The intention is not to humiliate them, degrade them or disgrace them.”

While sternly warning officers against disclosing their medical reports, the CP urged them not to panic, as such may complicate the assessment.

FCT: Police kick off assessment of officers’ mental health, others

The Federal Government on Friday launched the Mine-Tech University Innovation Pod at Nasarawa State University, framing it as a key step toward turning Nigeria’s mineral wealth into industrial growth.

The move, the government said is a shift away from exporting raw minerals toward building a technology-driven mining economy.

Speaking at the high-level unveiling of the innovation hub, Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the hub is designed to link education, research, enterprise and industrialisation.

Shettima who was represented by the minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described it as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a focus on human capital development, innovation and youth empowerment.

Nigeria holds more than 44 commercially viable minerals valued at over $1 trillion, but Shettima noted that the solid minerals sector still falls short of its potential.

He said the country is moving toward value addition, industrial processing and innovation-led growth as global demand rises for critical minerals used in electric vehicles, semiconductors, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. Nasarawa State, with deposits of lithium, tantalite, gemstone and lead-zinc, is positioned to benefit.

The Mine-Tech UniPod will bring together students, researchers, environmental experts, investors and mining professionals to work on practical solutions for the sector.

Backed by UNDP Nigeria and TETFund, the facility includes a specialized laboratory, prototyping space and technology transfer office. Its four labs cover mineral intelligence, materials and processing, geo-spatial innovation, and green mining with ESG technology.

Shettima also outlined broader government efforts to strengthen STEMM education, technical and vocational training, digital literacy and university-industry partnerships under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.

He noted that about 160,000 youths are training in 1,200 TVET centres nationwide, with over one million applications received since the portal reopened.
He added that another 100,000 youths are set for training in the coming months.

The Mine-Tech UniPod joins six other UniPods already operating in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Agriculture, Manufacturing and Trade, Industrial Technology, Resilience Technology, and Green and Blue Technology.

Also speaking, the state governor, Abdullahi Sule said the facility would help position Nasarawa as a hub for mining innovation and industrial development.

He noted that the state will provide a solar mini-grid to ensure steady power, and he called on investors and partners to support research, entrepreneurship, technology transfer and job creation.

He added that the state’s lithium and other strategic minerals place it at the center of the global shift to clean energy and advanced manufacturing.

On his part, TETFund Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono announced plans to set up 20 more UniPods across the country before year-end to deepen innovation and enterprise in universities.

UNDP Nigeria Resident Representative Elsie Attafuah, Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake, Nigerian Mining and Geo-Science Society President Prof. Olusegun Ige, and Nasarawa State University Vice Chancellor Prof. Hassan Liman also spoke at the event, describing the hub as a game changer for mining and education.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the full accreditation of eleven academic programmes of Cosmopolitan University.

In a statement issued on Thursday, registrar of the university, Mani Ibrahim described the development as a major milestone that reflects the institution’s dedication to maintaining high academic standards and building a world-class learning environment.

According to the statement, the accreditation followed a comprehensive assessment by the NUC covering faculty resources, curriculum relevance and infrastructural facilities.

The registrar listed the accredited programmes to include nursing science, public health, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, software engineering, accounting, economics, business administration, criminology and security Studies, and international Relations and diplomacy

He said the recognition demonstrates the universities commitment to meeting the regulatory benchmarks required for quality higher education in Nigeria.

“Achieving this recognition from the primary regulatory body is a significant step forward in the university’s growth and its mission to build a world-class academic environment,” the statement reads.

Ibrahim added that the university would continue to invest in learning resources, innovative research and facilities that promote academic excellence and personal development among students.

He also expressed appreciation to students and parents for their support and confidence in the university’s vision, assuring stakeholders of its resolve to sustain transparency, diligence and excellence in service delivery.

“As we look toward the future, Cosmopolitan University remains deeply committed to academic integrity, institutional growth, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge,” Ibrahim said.

He noted that the accreditation validates its systems, processes and learning environment as being aligned with national standards required to produce competent and industry-ready graduates.

He added that the approvals further reinforce its position as a centre for intellectual growth and professional development in the country.

The Tanimu Turaki-led factional national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, held a strategic meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday.

This comes less than 48 hours after Jonathan disclosed that he was consulting on the possibility of running for the presidency in 2027.

Jonathan made the remark while addressing a group of Nigerians in front of his office in Abuja on Thursday.

The group had visited the former president to urge him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

However, the former president told the group that vying for the presidency was “not a computer game,” hence the need for wide consultations before deciding on whether to contest in 2027.

“You are asking me to come and contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely,” he said.

Jonathan holds strategic meeting with Turaki-led PDP leadership

Popular businessman Isaac Fayose has lambasted Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, over his comparison of the cost of fuel in the United Kingdom, UK, and that of Nigeria.

DAILY POST reports that Omokri, in a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, drew attention to the widening gap in petrol prices between the two countries.

He wrote, “Petrol is now N3200 per litre in England, almost three times what we pay in Nigeria. Price increases are a global issue caused by the Middle East crisis.”

His remark, however, did not go down well with a cross-section of Nigerians, who took to social media to counter his claim.

Reacting, Isaac Fayose, in a post on his Facebook page, wondered if Omokri took into cognisance the minimum wage in the UK and what is obtainable in Nigeria before making the comment.

According to Fayose, “Minimum wage in Nigeria is 70k, so if I’m to buy fuel for N1,400 per litre in a month, I will only be able to use 48 litres of fuel.

“That’s excluding food, accommodation, logistics and every other thing. In the UK, the minimum wage is over 12 pounds per hour.

“An average worker in the UK earns 25,000 pounds a year. That’s about 50 million naira here.

“Meanwhile, N70,000 a year as our minimum wage is less than one million naira. So Mr Omokri, what can I do with 70k in a month?

“Mr Omokri, why don’t you have a brain? You are just saying this to please your master.”

Members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Anambra State have affirmed their support for the party, insisting that they remain loyal to the David Mark and Rauf Aregbeshola leadership of the party.

This assurance is coming despite the exit of presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, who is also an indigene of Anambra State. Obi recently defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

The state chapter of the ADC disclosed this to journalists after a leadership consultative meeting held in Awka, Anambra State.

Dr Ndubuisi Nwosu, the deputy governorship candidate of ADC in Anambra during the November 2025 gubernatorial election, said the leadership of the party in the state has met and resolved to stay put in ADC and also work for the party in the forthcoming election.

He added that even though the Anambra ADC is pained by the exit of Obi and some of his supporters, it wishes them well and hopes that someday they will join hands with them to tackle the leadership challenges in the country.

Nwosu said: “The state leaders of our party have reaffirmed the loyalty and support of the ADC Anambra State chapter to the national leadership headed by Senator David Mark and his excellency, Rauf Aregbesola.

“We resolved to commend the founding chairman and former national chairman of the ADC, our brother, Ralph Nwosu, for the exemplary show of presenting the ADC platform as an umbrella body for the coalition, and his selfless role in navigating the coalition to its fruition.

“We wish to affirm that ADC’s birth is from Anambra State, and Anambra State will not be found wanting, and it’s in the interest of the party to achieve success come 2027 general elections. As for our brothers who have moved on to some other platforms, we wish them well. We look forward to a day they will all join us to rescue this country.”

Despite Obi’s exit, Anambra ADC members stick with David Mark leadership

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has taken note of the growing public discussion surrounding the political understanding and possible strategic cooperation between our national leader and His Excellency Peter Obi under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

While Nigerians across regions, religions, and political divides have largely welcomed the development as a positive step toward national unity and democratic consolidation, it is unfortunate that some commentators particularly from sections of the Northern political establishment have resorted to selective attacks and misleading narratives aimed specifically at discrediting Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

What appears to be troubling certain interests is not merely the possibility of political cooperation, but the enormous national potential such an alliance represents.

For the first time in recent political history, Nigerians are witnessing the realistic possibility of a broad-based political understanding capable of bridging the long-standing regional divide in opposition politics. Senator Kwankwaso commands one of the most disciplined and organic grassroots political structures in Northern Nigeria, particularly across Kano and the Northwest, while Peter Obi continues to enjoy massive support among youths, urban voters, and large sections of Southern Nigeria.

Naturally, the prospect of both leaders working together introduces a completely new political equation one that transcends ethnicity, religion, and regional sentiment.

This explains the panic in certain quarters.

Unfortunately, rather than objectively analyzing the implications of such national realignment, some commentators have chosen to launch targeted attacks against Senator Kwankwaso, portraying him unfairly as ambitious or disruptive, while describing similar political engagements by others as strategic and patriotic.

This double standard is both unfortunate and revealing.

The truth is simple: any honest political observer understands that the coming together of two leaders with proven electoral strength, independent political structures, and massive youth appeal has the capacity to fundamentally reshape Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

Those attempting to dismiss this reality are not engaging in analysis; they are expressing political fear.

It is important to emphasize that Senator Kwankwaso has consistently demonstrated political courage, independence, and commitment to the democratic aspirations of ordinary Nigerians. His political relevance is not manufactured by media houses or sustained by access to federal power. It is rooted in years of service, grassroots connection, and the trust of millions of Nigerians, especially among the youth and lower-income population.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement therefore rejects the ongoing attempt to reduce a potentially historic national political alignment into petty elite propaganda and personality attacks.

Nigeria today faces enormous economic, security, and governance challenges. Citizens are increasingly demanding issue-based politics, national inclusion, competent leadership, and a credible alternative capable of restoring hope and confidence in the democratic process.

Any political understanding that seeks to unite Nigerians across regional and political lines should be encouraged rather than demonized.

We urge commentators and political stakeholders to embrace fairness, maturity, and national interest in their engagements. Democracy thrives through coalition-building, inclusion, and healthy political competition — not through selective hostility and orchestrated narratives targeted at individuals whose growing acceptance threatens established interests.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement remains confident, focused, and fully committed to the democratic future of Nigeria. We believe the Nigerian people deserve a political environment built on unity, mutual respect, and constructive national engagement.
