BREAKING: 2027: Adelabu’s supporters protest at APC secretariat, demand direct primary [VIDEO]

Supporters of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday protested at the All Progressives Congress, APC, secretariat in Oyo State.

The protesters demanded direct primaries as the mode for selecting the governorship candidate of the party.

DAILY POST recalls that Adelabu resigned as minister last month to pursue his ambition of contesting the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.

He formally declared his intention to contest the gubernatorial poll on May 12, 2026.

The development comes as the leaders and stakeholders of the party in the state formally adopted Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming primary election.

Alli’s adoption as consensus candidate was reaffirmed on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan.

FG denies approving 40% peculiar allowance for civil servants

The Federal Government has debunked claims circulating in the media regarding the approval of a 40 per cent peculiar allowance for federal civil servants.

DAILY POST recalls that on April 24, 2026, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, at a well-attended press briefing, announced that the Federal Government had approved a robust welfare package for civil servants and other entitlements.

The package included full Duty Tour Allowance for approved trainings in selected training institutions, an upward review of peculiar allowance across grade levels on the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), as well as an increase in estacode, book allowance and other entitlements.

However, the Director of Press and Public Relations, in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Eno Olotu, said in a statement that no such pronouncement of a 40 per cent peculiar allowance for civil servants emanated from the office.

According to the statement, for the avoidance of doubt, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation neither approved nor formally conveyed the approval of the allowance to the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) or any labour union.

“The statutory responsibility for the issuance and communication of such circulars rests solely with the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC),” the statement noted.

It further added that the meeting convened by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, was strictly an interventionist and conciliatory engagement aimed at facilitating dialogue between organised labour under its jurisdiction and the NSIWC, to promote mutual understanding and avert any breakdown in labour relations within the federal civil service.

Satellite town road projects aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda  – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday expressed satisfaction with the ongoing road project linking Gomani to Yangoji in Abuja, saying the development aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to spread infrastructure beyond city centres and open up satellite communities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking during an inspection of the project in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the Tinubu administration deliberately prioritised rural and satellite town development to curb rural-urban migration and improve connectivity across the FCT.

According to him, the road project forms part of a broader infrastructure drive that began with the A2-Pai road, which was inaugurated by President Tinubu during his second year in office.

“Remember that when we came on board, one of the directives of Mr. President is that we should not concentrate development, we should not concentrate provision of infrastructure just only in the cities. We must open up all the satellite towns in order to discourage rural-urban migration,” Wike said.

He explained that the ongoing 13-kilometre Gomani-Yangoji road project was awarded to Zeberced Construction Company, the same contractor that handled the A2-Pai road.

The minister noted that work on the project had reached an advanced stage, with the bridge already launched and drainage works nearing completion.

“From what we’ve seen, you can attest to the fact that we are very much encouraged. Luckily, the bridge had been launched, which we are standing on, the drainages have been done, optimized in 90 to 95 per cent. They are now building the streetlight pillars,” he stated.

Wike disclosed that the road would be among projects scheduled for inauguration during activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office this June.

He commended Zeberced Construction Company for delivering quality work and adhering to agreed timelines.

“I commend, as usual, the contractor, Zeberced, not only for providing quality jobs, but also keeping to the timeline, making promises that we will inaugurate this road this June. I’m happy,” he said.

The minister also praised the management and staff of the company for their commitment to ensuring the completion of the project.

He added that the President would be pleased to see infrastructure extending to underserved communities across the territory.

“I believe that when Mr. President comes here, it will be a thing of joy for him to see that development is passing through all the satellite towns,” Wike added.

  • MASSOB declares sit-at-home May 30 to mark 59th Biafra anniversary

MASSOB declares sit-at-home May 30 to mark 59th Biafra anniversary

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has declared May 30, 2026, as Biafra Day.

MASSOB announced a sit-at-home across the South-East in commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the declaration of Biafra by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in 1967.

The group, led by Uchenna Madu, said markets, schools, banks, public and private motor parks, and other business premises would remain shut from 6am to 4pm on May 30.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by MASSOB’s National Director of Information, Edeson Samuel.

According to the group, the sit-at-home is aimed at honouring Biafrans who died during the civil war and promoting what it described as a non-violent self-determination struggle.

MASSOB also used the occasion to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, describing his detention as unjust.

“We demand his immediate release and call for justice for all Biafrans who have been unjustly detained or persecuted,” the statement said.

The group maintained that participation in the sit-at-home exercise would not be enforced, stressing that no member would intimidate or compel residents to comply.

“MASSOB and other pro-Biafra agitators will not molest, compel or intimidate anybody to observe the stay-at-home exercise,” the statement added.

The organisation further announced that there would be no street protests, demonstrations, processions, or public gatherings during the anniversary.

MASSOB, however, alleged that security agencies, including the military, police, DSS, and Civil Defence, would deploy heavily across major cities in the South-East during the commemoration.

The group insisted that no form of intimidation or force would stop the agitation for Biafra.

Ponzi scheme: Nigerians in tears as another online investment platform crashes

Another online investment platform identified as “XM Future Music Group” has reportedly collapsed, leaving many Nigerian users unable to access their funds amid growing concerns over fraudulent investment schemes.

The platform, popularly known as “XM,” allegedly promised subscribers returns of up to 100 per cent within 30 days through what it described as music streaming and digital task activities.

Promoters of the scheme claimed users could earn money by listening to music and carrying out simple online engagements.

Subscription packages reportedly ranged from N21,600 to as much as N93 million, with assurances of massive financial returns.

The platform attracted widespread attention after advertisements circulated online claiming that an investment of N21 million could generate returns of about N327 million within one month.

Users were also reportedly required to pay what the platform described as a “work deposit” after an initial trial phase before gaining full participation access.

However, concerns intensified after subscribers began reporting failed withdrawal attempts within the last 24 hours.

Several users also alleged that support groups linked to the platform were deleted, while the website and related channels became inaccessible, developments commonly associated with the collapse of suspected Ponzi-style schemes.

In efforts to boost credibility, promoters of the platform had circulated documents claiming the business was registered in Colorado, United States.

Despite such claims, financial analysts have repeatedly warned Nigerians against investing in online platforms offering unrealistic profits without proper regulation or transparency.

The incident has further renewed concerns over the increasing number of unregulated digital investment schemes targeting Nigerians with promises of quick and extraordinary returns.
