  • Former Benue Speaker Dajoh withdraws from APC primary over alleged irregularities

Former Benue Speaker Dajoh withdraws from APC primary over alleged irregularities

Former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and member representing Gboko West Constituency, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the State House of Assembly seat.

The withdrawal was disclosed in a statement signed by his media aide, Agber Kulugh.

According to the statement, the decision was informed by what Dajoh described as alleged manipulation and lack of transparency in the conduct of ongoing APC primary elections across Benue State.

The statement claimed that reports and developments from some areas where primaries had already taken place suggested that the process had been compromised.

It further alleged that in certain locations, result sheets were reportedly completed before the commencement of voting exercises, while in other areas election materials allegedly did not reach designated voting centres despite winners being announced.

Dajoh reportedly stated that participating in the State House of Assembly primary under such conditions would amount to legitimising a process he believes lacks credibility, fairness and democratic integrity.

The former Speaker expressed appreciation to supporters, delegates, stakeholders, youths, women and party faithful across Gboko West Constituency and Gboko Local Government Area for their support and confidence in his leadership.

He also urged his supporters and political associates to remain calm and peaceful while awaiting further directives.

The development comes amid ongoing APC primary activities across Benue State, with concerns reportedly emerging from some stakeholders regarding the conduct of the exercises.

At the time of filing this report, there was no immediate official response from APC authorities regarding the allegations contained in the statement.

  • Nigerian Content Compliance Non-Negotiable, Says NCDMB

Nigerian Content Compliance Non-Negotiable, Says NCDMB

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has reaffirmed that compliance with Nigerian Content regulations in the oil and gas industry remains non-negotiable.

The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Felix Ogbe, stated this on Tuesday at the 2026 Nigerian Oil and Gas Midstream and Downstream Stakeholders Summit in Lagos.

Ogbe was represented by Austin Uzoka, Head of the Directorate of Planning, Research and Statistics.

He said the midstream and downstream sectors remained vital to Nigeria’s economic expansion, industrialisation and job creation efforts.

The summit focused on the theme, ‘Unlocking, Growing and Sustaining Nigerian Content Development in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Midstream and Downstream Sectors.’

Ogbe described the gathering as a strategic platform for shaping the future direction of Nigeria’s energy industry and strengthening indigenous participation.

According to him, reforms, improved regulatory clarity and growing investor confidence are repositioning Nigeria as a leading oil and gas investment destination in Africa.

He noted that the Board, established under the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act 2010, continued promoting local capacity development and technology transfer.

Ogbe added that the Board had also advanced employment opportunities for Nigerians across several segments of the oil and gas industry.

He said Nigerian companies had recorded significant achievements in upstream operations, particularly in exploration, drilling, engineering, fabrication and project management activities.

According to him, the next growth phase lies within the midstream and downstream sectors of the nation’s petroleum industry.

He identified gas processing, transportation infrastructure, storage facilities, LPG and CNG distribution, refining and petrochemical development as major investment opportunities.

Ogbe said Nigeria was gradually reducing dependence on imported refined petroleum products through increased local refining and processing capacity.

He described the Dangote Refinery as a strong symbol of Nigeria’s industrial ambition, energy independence and economic self-sufficiency.

Ogbe stated that modular refineries were opening fresh opportunities for indigenous participation, local investment and improved national energy security.

He also highlighted ongoing gas commercialisation projects as important drivers of industrialisation and value addition within the domestic economy.

The NCDMB boss specifically referenced the Nigeria LNG Train 7 project and the Federal Government’s Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas.

According to him, both initiatives would strengthen domestic gas utilisation and support broader industrial growth across the country.

While emphasising the Board’s regulatory responsibilities, Ogbe insisted that compliance with Nigerian Content requirements remained central to industry operations.

“Compliance remains non-negotiable, but it must also be practical, implementable and supportive of investment and business growth,” he said.

He urged policymakers, investors, operators and service providers to deepen collaboration to maximise opportunities within the sector.

Ogbe said stronger partnerships would help drive sustainable economic growth, industrial capacity and long-term competitiveness in Nigeria’s energy industry.

The two-day summit attracted major stakeholders from the oil and gas industry to discuss strategies for expanding local content development.

Participants also examined ways to strengthen industrial capacity and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness within the global energy market.

  • Kwara Gov Backs Seriki For 2027 APC Guber Ticket

Kwara Gov Backs Seriki For 2027 APC Guber Ticket

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has thrown his weight behind Yahaya Seriki of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

AbdulRazaq, in a Facebook post on Tuesday seen by THE WHISTLER, said the decision followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders and leadership structures across the state.

The development may further deepen political tensions within the ruling party in the state.

The governor’s endorsement came barely 24 hours after confusion trailed the APC senatorial primary election in Kwara Central.

Senator Saliu Mustapha was reported to be planning to contest against the governor for the Senate ticket if he’s not the APC’s consensus governorship candidate.

“Following extensive consultations with party structures and leadership, I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read.

He further described Seriki as a youthful and people-oriented politician with strong political mobilisation capacity and widespread grassroots acceptance across the state.

“Young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded, Amb. Yahaya Seriki has been a great political mobiliser with profound investments in and extensive goodwill among the people of Kwara State. I have no doubt about his capacity and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time,” the governor stated.

Abdulrazaq also explained that his endorsement does not invalidate the aspirations of other governorship seeking the APC ticket ahead of the party’s primary election slated for Thursday, May 21, 2026.

“While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party as we hold our gubernatorial primaries on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people. But in a race involving some 16 great minds for one office, only one person can take the shot at a time.

“Finally, I acknowledge and commend the statesmanship of our aspirants, all of whom have shown discipline and impressive capacity to build on the undeniable achievements of our administration over the last seven years for the good of the people of Kwara State,” the governor said

  • ALGON Donates 90 Patrol Vehicles To Osun Security Agencies

ALGON Donates 90 Patrol Vehicles To Osun Security Agencies

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun Chapter, on Tuesday donated 90 patrol vehicles to boost security agencies’ operations in the state. The Chairman of ALGON in the state, Mr Samuel Abiodun, donated the vehicles at the state police headquarters in Osogbo on behalf of the state local government chairmen and councillors.

Abiodun described the gesture as a demonstration of ALGON’s commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of the people in the state. He said that the local government remained the closest tier of government to the people and that they understood the peculiar security challenges within their communities.

The chairman said that ALGON was determined to give all necessary support to address security challenges more effectively. He said that the provision of the patrol vehicles was not only a security intervention, but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria.

“The vehicles will enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable our security agencies to be more proactive on security issues,” Abiodun said.

He reiterated that security remained a collective responsibility, hence calling on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies by providing timely and useful information.

Responding, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Umar Nadada, appreciated ALGON for the gesture.

Nadada, represented by Osun Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, said it was a clear demonstration of the association’s unwavering commitment to the safety, security and well-being of residents. He said that the donated operational vehicles would significantly enhance their capacity to dominate public spaces and engage in proactive surveillance.

Nadada said the intervention would also help speed up responses to distress calls, ease patrols, ensure visibility policing, and ultimately improve overall operational efficiency for the safety of the state.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command, and other security agencies, I sincerely thank ALGON for this thoughtful and impactful intervention,” he said.

Nadada assured the association that the vehicles would be judiciously and professionally engaged in the best interests of public safety.

He, however, called on other organisations, stakeholders, and well-meaning individuals to emulate ALGON’s initiative. “Together, we can build a safer society for all,” Nadada said.
