The 2027 gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, in Delta State, Emeka Nkwoala has emerged. 

He was the former chairman of the Labour Party, LP, in the state.

Nkwoala won his party’s mandate during the governorship congress in Asaba supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC officials.

In his acceptance speech, Nkwoala said the cardinal objective of his administration would be achieved in collaboration with his National Assembly and House of Representatives candidates.

He boasted that with his wealth of experience and stewardship in the ZLP, he would challenge and win the incumbent Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in a free and fair election.

According to him, even though Governor Oborevwori is doing well in infrastructural development, especially by attracting Julius Berger to construct roads, bridges and flyovers, ZLP has adopted a strategic agenda to surpass his record.

“No doubt, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has performed well in infrastructural delivery. But considering the resources accruing to the state, I shall do far better because, unlike him, I have no godfather but I have God as a Father.”

He said the party’s House of Assembly candidate, Sir Aghogho Green Meretin, who was the former Majority Leader of Ethiope West LGA and a grassroots mobilizer, would assist with effective legislation.

He assured the party would entrench a free-education system to enhance the future generation of the state, advance accessibility to free healthcare delivery and unleash a new era of road infrastructure in the state.

Protesters have stormed the Anambra State Government House, also known as Light House, Awka, on Friday over the outcome of the primary election of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

Thousands of protesters from Oyi Local Government Area of the state converged at the government house with placards, asking the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to intervene in what they described as brazen rigging of the Oyi State Constituency primary election.

They claimed that while a popular candidate, Innocent Ojike, also known as Ojicam, had won the election, they were surprised to find that the party announced another aspirant, Mr Kosisochukwu Ibemesi, as the candidate to represent the party for the Anambra State House of Assembly election, next year.

Since APGA held its party primaries last Saturday, several groups and aspirants have rejected the outcome, claiming that the processes were manipulated in many constituencies, while those who emerged victorious have praised the process as being transparent.

The State Auditor of APGA, Uchenna Oraegbunam, who led the protesters, said: “We are here for a peaceful protest to let our governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, know some of the things that happened in Oyi State Constituency last Saturday.

“We had a very peaceful protest and elections were declared, and Ojicam, Hon Innocent Ojike, the current member of the Anambra State House of Assembly was declared winner. We were all confident that he was going to win because we know he is popular.

“We were all surprised that when the party released the names of candidates that were successful, what we saw was the name of Mr Kosisochukwu Ibemesi. This is a surprise to us, and we want anyone who said that Ibemesi won the election to come and prove it.

“It is highly embarrassing that this can happen in my constituency. I’m a stakeholder in this party and if such could happen anywhere, it should not be in my constituency,” he said.

The protesters who marched from the Anambra State House of Assembly through the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square ended up at the Government House, where they changed protest songs to register their discontent.

Some of the placards read: “Please bring back our popular candidate, Ojicam”, “Mr Governor do not let this happen in Oyi,” “Our candidate for the election is Ojicam, he won the election”, among other inscriptions.

The Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Okechi Vincent Egbuna who addressed the protesters, assured that the governor will look into their request, assuring that the governor likes to be just and fair in his dealings.

He also admonished the protesters to chronicle their requests in a letter and send copies to the governor, the party leadership and the appeal panel, assuring that their demands will be addressed.

A female presidential aspirant on the platform of the Democratic Liberation Alliance, DLA, Mrs Adaeze Nwankwo, has resigned from the party and demanded a refund of her nomination fees over what she described as an “unfair and compromised” primary election process.

Mrs Nwankwo announced her resignation in a statement issued after the party’s presidential primary held in Abuja on Friday, accusing the DLA leadership of abandoning transparency and internal democracy.

The former aspirant alleged that the primary election was manipulated in favour of a preferred candidate, insisting that genuine contestants were denied a level playing ground despite investing heavily in campaigns and consultations across the country.

“I joined the DLA believing it represented a new political culture built on fairness, equity and inclusion. Sadly, the events leading to the presidential primary have proven otherwise,” she said.

According to her, several irregularities were observed before and during the exercise, including alleged delegate intimidation, last-minute changes to accreditation procedures and the exclusion of some supporters from the venue.

Nwankwo stated that she could no longer remain in a political party where “the voices of aspirants are ignored while decisions are allegedly taken behind closed doors”.

She further demanded the immediate refund of all monies paid for her expression of interest and nomination forms, arguing that the process failed to meet the standards promised by the party leadership.

“I cannot, in good conscience, continue to associate myself with a process that lacked credibility and fairness from the beginning,” she added.

The DLA presidential aspirant also expressed disappointment that her efforts to push for more women participation in leadership positions within the party were allegedly met with resistance and political intimidation.

The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Engr. Sunny Oche, has commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his commitment to the development of Benue State as the governor marks three years in office.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the government and people of Ado Local Government Area, Oche described Governor Alia’s administration as one driven by purposeful leadership, good governance, and dedication to the growth and progress of the state.

He noted that within the last three years, the governor had demonstrated a strong commitment to transforming critical sectors and improving the welfare of the people, describing his efforts as commendable and inspiring.

Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.

The announcement was made on Friday by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, spokesperson to the former deputy governor, who disclosed that Gwarzo will be formally affirmed alongside other NDC candidates during the party’s scheduled affirmation ceremony today (Friday).

According to the spokesperson, the event will also feature the affirmation of the party’s candidates for the State House of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship, and presidential elections.

Gwarzo brings to the contest decades of public service and political experience. 

He previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and was elected twice as a local government chairman. 

He also held commissioner positions in four different ministries in Kano State, where he contributed to policy formulation and implementation across key sectors.

In addition, Gwarzo served as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission and as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora. 

His extensive record in public administration and grassroots leadership has earned him recognition as one of Kano’s most experienced political figures.

His emergence as the NDC governorship candidate is expected to bolster the party’s campaign efforts and strengthen its position ahead of the elections.

Despite that, the situation remains open as no agreement has been reached between the two clubs.
