Media personality, Chude Jideonwo, has opened up about his secret battle with Tourette Syndrome.

DAILY POST reports that Tourette Syndrome is an incurable neurodevelopmental condition that
causes people to make sudden movements or sounds they can’t control.

Speaking about his battle with the disorder in an interview with BBC News Africa, Chude who disclosed that he was diagnosed in his 20s, explained that his doctor advised him to keep it secret to avoid being stigmatised in the society.

“When I was diagnosed, my doctor warned me not to talk about it in public that people are going to judge me. Especially in Africa. I began to consciously notice Tourette Syndrome in my late 20s. Is a neurological where it feels like your body misfires,” he said.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday took a swipe at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a serial contestant and loser who, according to him, would still run for office in 2031.

Wike spoke during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Abuja while responding to Atiku’s recent criticism that the current administration has not made any positive impact.

“Atiku is a serial failure. He is a serial contestant and loser, and I am sure that in 2031, he will still contest. Nigerians would be laughing at such a person making that kind of statement that nothing positive has been done,” Wike said.

He challenged the former Vice-President to compare the state of the Federal Capital Territory during his time in office with the current situation.

“Let him compare FCT now and when he was Vice-President. Can he honestly say what we have now is the same as then?” he queried.

The minister insisted that the administration would not be distracted by political criticism, stressing that governance must continue despite political activities.

“The election will come, but people must work. Contractors are not part of the election,” he said.

Wike used the opportunity to assure residents that major road projects across the FCT would be delivered on schedule.

He disclosed that the Airport–Kuje road project is nearing completion, noting that part of the bridge would be opened for use next week.

“From Airport Junction to Kuje, one part of the bridge is almost completed. Before the end of May, the entire job will be handed over,” he said.

On the Kuje–Gwagwalada road, the minister said the first phase of the dualisation, covering about seven kilometres, would also be completed before the end of May.

“I am happy with the progress; we are satisfied with the quality of jobs being delivered,” he added.

According to Wike, the projects would help transform Kuje into a major hub, reduce pressure on the Abuja city centre, and attract more residents and investors.

“Very soon, Kuje will no longer be a satellite town. People will move there, build houses, and the pressure on the city will reduce,” he said.

The minister also dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the FCT Administration attempted to frustrate its planned convention by targeting a venue.

“I don’t even know where that place is. There was no interference from anybody. These people should just stop looking for sympathy,” he said.

He challenged the party to provide evidence of any formal communication regarding the use of public facilities, insisting that due process must be followed.

Wike further assured that political activities would not slow down development in the FCT.

He added that most of the ongoing projects would be completed before January.

“Our focus is clear: deliver projects, improve lives, and keep Abuja moving,” he said.

Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His resignation was confirmed in a letter dated April 10, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 7, Ondo West Local Government Area, in which he formally notified the party of his exit.

In the letter, Mimiko stated: “I am tendering my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026.”

He explained that his decision followed growing uncertainty about his political position in recent months, adding that it had become necessary to clarify his status.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP,” he said.

Mimiko also stressed that he does not harbour any grievances against members of the party.

Ex-Ondo gov, Olusegun Mimiko dumps PDP

A Federal Capital Territoty High Court sitting in Apo has ordered the arrest of the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, alongside a permanent secretary in the ministry, Bashir Nura Alkali, after both failed to appear for their scheduled arraignment.

The ruling was made on Thursday by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie following a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is prosecuting the defendants on a 21-count charge involving alleged criminal breach of trust, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.

The EFCC alleged that about $1.3 million and more than N746 million (approximately N2.49 billion) were misappropriated during the defendants’ tenure in office.

At the proceedings, the third defendant, Sani Nafiu Mohammed, was present in court, while Farouq and Alkali were absent.

Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, informed the court that all defendants had been properly served with court documents but deliberately failed to attend proceedings despite being aware of the arraignment date.

He also told the court that the former minister had earlier been granted permission to travel abroad for medical reasons but had neither returned her international passport nor submitted any medical report to the EFCC.

Counsel to the former minister, Abdul Ibrahim, explained that her absence was due to ill health and sought to tender an affidavit to that effect. However, the court refused to admit the document.

The defence further pleaded for a six-week adjournment to allow the defendants time to appear before the court, but the prosecution opposed the request, insisting on enforcement action.

The EFCC maintained that the defendants had repeatedly failed to comply with court summons and bail conditions, urging the court to compel their appearance through arrest warrants.

Delivering his ruling, Justice Onwuegbuzie granted the application and issued bench warrants for the arrest of both Farouq and Alkali.

The case was adjourned to May 18, 2026, for arraignment and continuation of trial proceedings.

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s inflation outlook following a rebound in headline inflation to 15.38 per cent in March 2026, warning that the development poses renewed risks to businesses, household welfare, and overall economic stability.

The Chamber said on Thursday that the latest figure released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), up from 15.06 per cent recorded in February, effectively halts the recent disinflation trend and signals persistent underlying price pressures in the economy.

According to the LCCI, the uptick in inflation was largely driven by increases in food inflation, which rose to 14.31 per cent, transport costs at 16.9 per cent, and a rise in core inflation to 16.21 per cent.

The Chamber noted that rising domestic fuel prices, partly linked to geopolitical disruptions in global energy markets, have intensified cost-push pressures across production, logistics, and distribution value chains.

Director-General of LCCI, Dr. Chinyere Almona, said the resurgence of inflation presents significant challenges for the organised private sector, particularly in terms of rising operating costs, shrinking profit margins, and weakened consumer purchasing power.

She warned that if not addressed urgently, the renewed inflationary trend could undermine business sustainability, reduce economic competitiveness, and exacerbate poverty levels across the country.

“The current inflation dynamics reflect deep-rooted structural challenges, particularly in energy supply, food systems, logistics, and foreign exchange management,” Almona stated.

To mitigate these risks, the Chamber called on the Federal Government to implement urgent and coordinated policy measures aimed at stabilising prices and restoring economic confidence.

On energy, the LCCI emphasised the need to stabilise domestic fuel prices by boosting local refining capacity, improving supply chain efficiency, and reducing exposure to global oil price shocks.

It also stressed the importance of transparency in fuel pricing mechanisms and short-term interventions to ensure consistent supply.

Addressing food inflation, the Chamber urged the government to tackle structural bottlenecks in agricultural value chains by improving access to inputs, mechanisation, irrigation, and rural infrastructure.

It also highlighted the need to address insecurity in food-producing regions and reduce post-harvest losses through better storage and logistics systems.

While acknowledging recent tariff adjustments on selected food items and agricultural inputs, the LCCI noted that such measures must be complemented by broader reforms to achieve meaningful price stability.

On transportation and logistics, the Chamber called for accelerated investment in infrastructure, including roads, rail, and inland waterways, alongside reforms to address inefficiencies in port operations. It further urged the government to eliminate multiple taxation and checkpoints that increase the cost of moving goods, and to fast-track the implementation of reduced automotive tariffs to ease mobility costs.

The LCCI also underscored the importance of exchange rate stability in curbing imported inflation. It recommended measures to improve foreign exchange liquidity, boost non-oil exports, and strengthen investor confidence through transparent and predictable FX policies.

The Chamber added that improved crude oil earnings should translate into increased forex supply to support critical imports for businesses.

In addition, it called for stronger support for local production and industrial competitiveness through targeted incentives, improved access to credit, and consistent policy frameworks, noting that reducing dependence on imports would help cushion the economy against external shocks.

The Chamber concluded that the resurgence of inflation highlights the urgency of sustained and targeted reforms, stressing that addressing structural drivers across key sectors remains critical to restoring price stability and supporting Nigeria’s economic recovery.
