ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA, IN COLLABORATION WITH UNITED STATES FORCES, NEUTRALIZE SENIOR ISIS COMMANDER
The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with United States forces has successfully conducted a meticulously planned and highly coordinated counterterrorism operation resulting in the elimination of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior ISIS leader and one of the world’s most active terrorists.
The precision operation was the result of our recently formed U.S. – Nigeria partnership and intelligence sharing efforts. Together, we have disrupted a violent terrorist network that endangered Nigeria and the broader West African region. Our efforts represent a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria, the Lake Chad Basin, the Sahel region and globally.
Abu-Bilal al-Minuki was a key ISIS operational and strategic figure who provided guidance to ISIS entities outside Nigeria on matters relating to media operations, economic warfare and the development and manufacturing of weapons, explosives and drones. His death removes a critical node through which ISIS coordinated and directed operations across different regions of the world.
Intelligence further indicates that, as recently as February 2026, Minuki may have been elevated to the position of Head of the General Directorate of States, placing him the second most senior leader within the ISIS global hierarchy.
Prior to this, Minuki served in 2023 as the Nigeria-based al-Furqan GDP Office Emir, overseeing ISIS-linked operations across the Sahel and West Africa, including attacks against civilians, particularly ethnic and religious minority communities.
The terrorist leader also maintained longstanding operational ties with ISIS-West Africa and was linked to the 2018 Dapchi kidnapping of over 100 schoolgirls. Intelligence records further show that between March 2015 and early 2016, he facilitated the movement of fighters to Libya in support of ISIS operations in North Africa. Before pledging allegiance to ISIS in 2015, Minuki was also recognized as a prominent leader within Boko Haram.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterate that this successful operation demonstrates Nigeria’s unwavering resolve to confront terrorism and deny extremist groups the ability to threaten national, regional and international security.
The operation equally underscores the importance of our Nigeria-United States collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated military action in defeating transnational terrorist networks.
The Defence Headquarters commends the gallantry, professionalism and dedication of all personnel involved in the operation and appreciates the continued partnership and support of United States forces in the collective fight against terrorism.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain steadfast in ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure, protecting civilians and ensuring lasting peace and stability across the nation and the wider region.

STATEHOUSE STATEMENT
Counterterrorism Operation Against ISIS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki
Overnight, Nigeria and the United States recorded a significant example of effective collaboration in the fight against terrorism.
Our determined Nigerian Armed Forces, working closely with the Armed Forces of the United States, conducted a daring joint operation that dealt a heavy blow to the ranks of the Islamic State.
Early assessments confirm the elimination of the wanted IS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, along with several of his lieutenants, during a strike on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin
Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives. I extend my sincere gratitude to President Trump for his leadership and unwavering support in this effort.
I commend the personnel involved on both sides for their professionalism and courage, and I look forward to more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves across the nation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has bowed to calls for investigations after some operatives of the agency allegedly attacked some medical workers at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in Akwa Ibom State.
The incident, which happened on Tuesday, triggered outrage as many Nigerians accused the agency of highhandedness.
Also, senior lawyers and civil society organisations, who spoke on the incident, called for reforms in the anti-graft agency’s operations.
The commission has faced increasing criticism following a string of controversial raids on homes, hotels, hostels and institutions during operations targeting suspects linked to financial crimes, especially Internet fraud.
Attack on Akwa Ibom hospital
On Tuesday, EFCC operatives allegedly assaulted members of staff of the UUTH during an investigation involving the authentication of a medical report.
Four staff members, including the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof Effiong Ekpe, were arrested during the operation.
Witnesses alleged that the operatives arrived on the hospital premises in the afternoon to arrest a staff member, but resistance from workers led to tension.
Eyewitnesses, including Ekpe, claimed that additional officers later arrived at the scene and allegedly fired shots into the air to disperse workers and other hospital personnel who had gathered around.
Videos circulating online showed workers, patients and visitors running for safety after tear gas canisters were fired within the hospital premises.
Some persons were reportedly injured during the incident, while phones were allegedly damaged as workers attempted to record the scene.
The incident sparked immediate reactions from medical workers across the state, with doctors and health workers embarking on an indefinite strike.
The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association also threatened N1bn legal action against the anti-graft agency over what it described as physical, emotional, professional and institutional damage suffered during the operation.
Speaking on the incident, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Ememabasi Bassey, disclosed that the medical report being verified by the EFCC was fake.
According to him, some persons within the hospital might have collaborated with outsiders to produce the document.
He explained that the verification process passed through several officers and was delayed by the weekend, May 1 being a public holiday and the official trip of Ekpe, who is also the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the institution.
However, the EFCC defended its actions.
The spokesman for the commission, Dele Oyewale, said the operatives visited the hospital to authenticate a medical report submitted by a suspect standing trial before Justice M.A. Onyetenu of the Federal High Court in Uyo.
He alleged that operatives were attacked with stones and dangerous objects by workers during the operation.
Oyewale added that despite the hostility, the operatives exercised restraint and professionally exited the hospital premises without disrupting medical activities.
Public outrage
The incident generated outrage as many Nigerians demanded investigations into the conduct of the operatives and reforms in the agency’s methods.
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, condemned the incident, describing it as an abuse of power and a disturbing display of lawlessness.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, Obi said the use of tear gas within a hospital environment was a thoughtless act.
He stated that while government agencies had constitutional responsibilities to perform their duties, the manner in which such duties were carried out often raised concerns.
A former Vice-President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Monday Ubani (SAN), the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, and the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre also condemned the action of the agency.
He said although citizens must not obstruct lawful operations, security agencies had no right to assault people during arrests.
Ubani stressed that law enforcement agencies must maintain civility and professionalism during operations.
The SAN also criticised midnight raids, warning that operatives risked being mistaken for kidnappers or armed robbers due to the country’s current security climate.
“You don’t jump fences by 2am in an insecure environment where people are already afraid of criminals,” the senior lawyer said.
The Executive Director of the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, Debo Adeniran, urged anti-graft agencies to improve intelligence gathering and professionalism.
He warned that certain methods could undermine public confidence in anti-corruption efforts.
Referring to the UUTH incident, Adeniran said hospitals should never become theatres of violent operations.
Similarly, the Executive Director of CISLAC, Auwal Musa, said law enforcement agencies must remain procedural and civil in carrying out investigations.
He noted that hospitals are sensitive environments that require proper access and security protocols.
Musa, however, added that anti-graft agencies sometimes encounter resistance from individuals attempting to frustrate investigations.
“Law enforcement agencies must be civil in their operations, but when people obstruct investigations or attempt to shield suspects, operatives sometimes resort to force to ensure suspects are brought to justice,” he added.
Pattern of controversial raids
The Uyo incident is one of several controversial EFCC operations that have drawn public condemnation in recent years.
On May 4, a Rivers State High Court ordered the EFCC and Multichoice to pay MetroDigital Limited N10m over what the court described as an unlawful raid and arrest of staff members.
Justice Chinelo Odili ruled that the invasion of the broadcasting firm’s premises and disruption of its operations violated the rights of the company and its workers.
In April this year, youths in Edo State protested at the House of Assembly complex over alleged incessant harassment and midnight raids by EFCC operatives.
The protesters accused officials of targeting youths without warrants and conducting illegal searches and detentions.
In February 2026, armed operatives reportedly raided a residential compound in Asaba, Delta State, between 2am and 3am while attempting to arrest suspected fraudsters.
A viral video shared by an X user, @General_Somto, showed claims that operatives used sledgehammers to break doors and ladders to scale balconies during the operation.
Residents initially believed they were under attack by armed robbers or cultists before realising that the men were EFCC operatives.
Earlier, in January 2025, an Assistant Superintendent of the commission, Aminu Salisu, was shot dead during an early morning raid in Awka, Anambra State.
The suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, reportedly claimed he acted in self-defence after mistaking the operatives for kidnappers.
On May 20, 2025, students and youths in Benin City also protested against alleged harassment and late-night raids by the anti-graft agency.
The protesters accused operatives of storming student hostels around 2 am and arresting occupants indiscriminately.
The President of the Creative Industry Group, Felix Duke, also accused EFCC operatives of stealing €5,000 during a raid on his Duke and Duchess Hotel in Abule Egba, Lagos, on August 1, 2025.
He alleged that the operatives damaged property worth millions of naira and disrupted hotel operations without presenting a valid warrant.
EFCC bows to pressure
The EFCC, on Friday, said it had opened an investigation into the incident.
The commission disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle.
“The presence of the commission’s operatives in the facility on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, was purely administrative, to facilitate the authentication of a document, rather than a tactical operation to effect arrest,” the statement read.
The anti-graft agency, however, expressed concern over allegations that some hospital workers were brutalised during the incident.
While noting that it had not seen any physical evidence of injuries allegedly sustained by the affected staff members, the commission said it had nonetheless ordered an investigation into the matter.
The commission assured that any operative found to have violated the agency’s Standard Operating Procedure would be sanctioned.
“The commission acknowledges stakeholders who have shown concern in the amicable resolution of the issue and, once again, reassures the public, including medical staff of the UUTH, that the May 12th incident was an aberration and should not be allowed to be exploited by some fifth columnists to undermine the fight against corruption in Nigeria,” the statement read.

Hon. Mohammed Bello Elrufai, son of the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Elrufai, has demanded that all the constitutional rights of his father, be accorded him.
El-Rufai, who is the member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, in a press statement pasted on his verified Facebook page, said as a family, they witnessed two distinct yet equally serious attacks on his father’s basic rights.
According to him, their father, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s personal Doctor visited the ICPC at about 3pm to discuss the results of medical tests recently conducted, but officials at the agency blocked the doctor from seeing him, claiming that written permission from the ICPC Chairman was required.
According to him, the refusal flouted a clear court order granting his father unrestricted access to his doctors.
“Second, his wife, Aunty Aichatou, brought his evening meal at around 7pm as she normally does. ICPC personnel turned her away, saying they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30pm, ‘ he wrote.
According to him, the arbitrary rules are outright assaults on the rule of law and a clear violation of their father’s constitutional and human rights.
The statement claimed that no lawful detention justifies denying medical access or refusing basic family care based on an arbitrary curfew fixed by the ICPC.
“We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected. We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol,” he said.
According to him, the ICPC must abide by the very laws it claims to enforce.

Popular television host and media personality, Frank Edoho, has fired back at allegations of infidelity and financial irresponsibility levelled against him by his estranged wife, Sandra Onyenucheya, amid the messy online fallout trailing their failed marriage.
Speaking on the controversy after Sandra publicly accused him of cheating, emotional abuse and abandoning his responsibilities as a father, Edoho claimed that her alleged relationship with singer, Chike, was one of the final straws that led to the collapse of the marriage.
According to him, he initially attempted to salvage the relationship for the sake of their children despite allegedly discovering evidence of an affair between Sandra and the singer.
“Since December 2022 till January last year (2025), that news that came out is very true. I approached that stupid guy because this is my second marriage. I asked him if he knew who I was and he was shaking like a leaf. I asked him what he was doing with my wife. He had a serious girlfriend he was engaged to, Precious.
“I told him that if my wife was stupid enough to cheat on her husband, why would he encourage it? He said, ‘Is that what she told you?’ and I told him I have the recordings of him talking to my wife. I told him I have two boys with this woman and I want to raise them. Leave this woman alone and maybe, she will come to her senses. I will overlook it and take one for my sons but they continued,” he said.
Edoho further alleged that Sandra actively encouraged the relationship with the singer despite his efforts to preserve the marriage.
“In the audio, she was the one encouraging the guy. I don’t know what I did to deserve that. I sent her to school in 2010 and 2011 and I said she should do a business. We settled for interior design, and I found her first carpenter for her. I raised everything and studied interior design photography because of her for four years.
“I was doing all that for my wife until I raised her to the point that trouble started. She felt she was big and started an affair with this guy,” he added.
The veteran broadcaster also revealed that there was a period he walked away from the marriage for about three months before Sandra persuaded him to return.
Speaking further on the divorce proceedings, Edoho claimed Sandra initiated legal action after discovering that he had moved on emotionally.
“There was a point when she saw that I had moved on and she saw me with a beautiful girl and she took me to court that she wants a divorce. It was just like anger.
“She was asking me to pay her N4m every month for the children’s upkeep and I said that it’s not happening. When I brought my evidence to court, the judge just said please, you know there are children involved,” he said.
He also stated that he will release evidences to back up his claims. He explained that he had used a technology to secretly record her calls with Chike after she promised to not return. In some of the audios which leaked online, Sandra admitted that the divorce was not Edoho’s fault.
Meanwhile, in an earlier call with Saturday Beats, Edoho had declined further public engagement over the controversies trailing the collapse of the second marriage
He had said, “I am not going to grant any interview because what is the gain for me in talking about my life?” he said.
The media personality also reacted briefly to claims made by his estranged wife regarding allegations of infidelity and financial responsibility during their marriage. Laughing off the claims, he said, “Indeed. And I left her two years ago and she is still sponsoring. Don’t worry, let people have that perspective.”
One X user identified as Danny of Owerri stirred further conversations when he pointed out that singer, Chike, had an affair with Edoho’s estranged wife.
“But why would Chike sleep with Frank Edoho’s wife. Why? I use to see Chike as a responsible guy,” the user wrote.
Reacting to the outpouring of sympathy from fans, Edoho revealed that he and Sandra had already been separated for almost two years before the current online uproar.
“I truly appreciate the empathy. While I understand that the public is only just becoming aware of this chapter, I have lived through it privately for quite some time now(almost 2 years) and have since made peace with it emotionally,” he stated.
Meanwhile, social media users continued to dissect online activities involving Sandra and Chike after both parties shared the same love themed song on Friday. The song, titled, “You’re The Closest To Heaven,” by an Australian singer, sparked speculation among fans who interpreted the posts as subtle messaging amid the controversy.
Attention also shifted to an earlier interview granted by Chike on The Unpack Podcast hosted by NAY, where the singer spoke about his preference for older women in relationships.
As conversations intensified online, Sandra also took to her Instagram page on Thursday, May 15, 2026, to share her side of the story in a lengthy post titled, “Surviving A Bitch Ass Nigga, Frank Edoho.”
In the post, she accused Edoho of infidelity, emotional abuse, neglect and financial irresponsibility during their marriage.
“Choosing to remain silent may give mixed signals to the narrative that a sadist and narcissist peddles, making everyone believe he is a victim.
“Choosing to marry a man, raising our beautiful kids, single handedly building and growing a successful design business and giving myself wholly, undiluted and faithful through and through!
“Until you decided that while I am pregnant with our first child, you would rather have a prolonged affair that lasted years with an actress, Mbong Amata amongst other women.
“Where do I even begin? The nights crying on the floor begging that you see me, with you walking out and not returning for days!”
She further alleged that Edoho discouraged her from keeping their second child and accused him of abandoning his responsibilities as a father.
“Or the days you tormented me to abort our second child because you were in numerous relationships and not ready to be a father?!
“Throughout the emotional, physiological, mental and physical torture and abuse, I stayed committed, faithful, shielding you, carrying like egg. But you are a shell. Washed up and dried out. You live for validation of the Internet. So enjoy your 10 seconds of pity party.
“A dead beat! That is exactly what you are. I singlehandedly sponsored your lavish lifestyle.
“I singlehandedly paid all your bills, the trips, business class tickets, 5 star hotels, luxury trips, all the home bills including that of the other children from your previously failed marriage. I took your mum abroad to the United States, and she lived in my parent’s home for years! I tried to cover you.
“Have you ever paid school fees? Have you ever? All you did was abuse the financial access you had to my funds. Squandering my money on prostitutes and loose women.”
Sandra also named and tagged several women she alleged Edoho was romantically involved with during their marriage.
“So many numerous transactions in Lekki hotels, air bnb, lounges and bars. Sold my property without my permission for chicken change and still squandered the earnings from it within one week! On different girls. Documented evidence dey! Chai!
“Disappearing for weeks on end! With loose women and whores like Adaeze Ugboaja at The Hardrock Cafe, or is it Tega Dominic @its_tegadominic the BBNaija girl, or is it Amaka Okeke @diaryofalionqueen, whom you claimed you were trying to get endorsement and sponsorship for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire who you brought into our home to sleep with on our matrimonial bed?
“Or is it the smelling prostitutes whom you led into our home? Where I had to video record you escorting her to the gate! Or is it the whore you had on your Snapchat frolicking in her bikini snapping with your own phone while you were there blowing kisses to her?”
Explaining why she eventually walked away from the marriage, Sandra maintained that she remained faithful throughout the relationship but eventually decided to prioritise herself and her wellbeing.
“Where do I start? Where do I begin?
“I was a great wife, a faithful wife to the core.
“But a time comes when a woman must choose herself. I chose myself and walked away, filed for divorce too. As an adult woman, I am free to be friends with and date whomever I please. Please, move on with your life. To family and friends who have walked this journey with me and know the truth, thank you for your prayers and support,” she added.
Meanwhile, the women she called out debunked having any form of romantic relationship with Edoho.
Debunking the allegations, Okeke wrote on Instagram, “Over the past few hours, my name has been wrongly linked to false and baseless allegations currently circulating online.
For clarity, Frank Edoho and I met in 2024 on strictly business related matters and only became good friends in May 2025 when he was dealing with a personal matter which I will not bring up here for privacy reasons. Any narrative beyond this is completely untrue.
I am deeply disappointed to see my name attached to narratives that are malicious, baseless, and entirely inaccurate.
I kindly ask that people refrain from spreading unverified claims that may harm individuals, families, and reputations.
I remain focused on my work and will not be engaging further on this matter. My legal team have been informed accordingly and will take action in due course. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support.”
Tega Dominic also posted a cryptic message on Instagram: “It’s all cap,” she wrote.
Sandra Onyenucheya is a Nigerian entrepreneur and interior designer known for her luxury interior brand, Vivabella Designs and VivabellaHome. Through her social media pages, she frequently shares projects, luxury home inspirations and travels across different countries in search of premium interior pieces and designs.
Edoho, on the other hand, remains one of Nigeria’s most recognisable television personalities. He gained widespread fame as the host of the Nigerian edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and has also worked in broadcasting, events hosting and media production for decades.
This is not Edoho’s first failed marriage. Before his union with Sandra, he was married to broadcaster, Katherine Obiang. The marriage produced children before the couple eventually separated years ago. Their split also generated public attention at the time, though both parties later moved on with their lives privately.
