Toyosi Etim Effiong, wife of Nigerian actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim Effiong, has revealed that her marriage to the movie star influenced her decision to become a talent manager.
In her recent podcast outing, Mrs Etim Effiong explained that after she got married, she noticed that her husband’s career and Nollywood in general lack structures and legal frameworks.
She said banking on her experience as a show organiser in New York, she decided to introduce some of the structures in the American showbiz into Nollywood, starting with her husband as her first client.
She said after some months of managing her husband’s career, some of his colleagues who noticed the positive changes in his career also reached out to her to be their manager as well.
Etim Effiong said, “I am married to Daniel Etim Effiong -Nigeria’s finest filmmaker and actor. And earlier on in the marriage, I realised that there wasn’t a lot of structure in his career and the Nigerian movie industry generally.
“Producers just casually call actors and ask when they will be available for a shoot and when the actor is available, they start bargaining for the artiste’s fee over the phone like market women. It was very informal.
“Sometimes, you will clear your calendar for a shoot and the producer will call and tell you it has been cancelled at the last minute and give excuses. There was no structure or legal framework. The negotiations were also horrible.
“So, I became a self-appointed manager, which he was fine with. I started to support him, even with his social media and reading through his contracts. My support brought immediate results. And after some months, some of his friends approached me to manage them, too.”

Russian President, Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit China on May 19 for a two-day official trip, coming shortly after US President Donald Trump concluded his visit to Beijing, the Kremlin announced on Saturday.
According to a statement released by the Kremlin, Putin’s discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping will focus on ways to “further strengthen the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation” between both countries.
The statement added that the two leaders are expected to deliberate on major international and regional developments before signing a joint declaration at the end of their meeting.
Putin is also expected to hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on issues relating to trade and economic cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.
The announcement follows Trump’s departure from China on Friday after completing the first visit by a sitting US president to the Asian country in nearly 10 years.
Despite the elaborate reception accorded to him, several contentious issues, including trade disputes and geopolitical tensions surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war, remained unresolved.
Trump and Xi reportedly discussed the conflict in Ukraine, which has lasted for more than four years, as well as the ongoing US-Israeli confrontation with Iran. However, the US president left Beijing without any major breakthrough on either issue.
China has consistently called for dialogue aimed at ending the Ukraine conflict, but has refrained from condemning Russia’s military operation launched in February 2022. Beijing continues to present itself as neutral in the conflict.
Chinese authorities have also repeatedly denied supplying Russia with weapons or military equipment for its defence sector, instead accusing Western nations of prolonging the war by providing military support to Ukraine.
China, currently the largest purchaser of Russian fossil fuels, has emerged as a crucial economic ally for Moscow, particularly after Western countries imposed sanctions on Russian oil and gas exports following the outbreak of the war.
Efforts led by the United States to broker peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have reportedly slowed since the outbreak of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran on February 28.
Meanwhile, Moscow has maintained that it will not agree to a ceasefire or broader negotiations with Ukraine unless Kyiv accepts the Kremlin’s far-reaching conditions.

A Labour Party aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, Emmanuel Josiah, has said that the administration of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has renewed public confidence in governance and encouraged more young people to participate in politics.
Josiah made the remarks while officially declaring his intention to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election under the Labour Party at his country home in Eziama Nteghauzor, Obingwa Local Government Area.
According to him, developments in the state under Otti’s administration influenced his decision to seek elective office.
“I want to sincerely appreciate our performing Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for redefining governance in Abia State and restoring hope to the people. Today, many young people like us are encouraged to participate in politics because we have seen a leadership that is focused on service, accountability, and development.
“The Labour Party government in Abia has shown that politics should be about the welfare of the people and not personal interests. That example has inspired me to answer the call to serve my people at a higher level,” he said.
Josiah also spoke about his personal background and how it shaped his interest in public service and humanitarian activities.
“Today, I stand before the good people of Obingwa, Osisioma, and Ugwunagbo not merely as a politician, but as a man whose life reflects the struggles of ordinary people.
“I know what poverty feels like because I lived through it. I know what it means to go to school hungry, to face uncertainty, and to dream without opportunities.
“These experiences built in me compassion and resilience. Through the EVANSINO Humanitarian Foundation, we have supported students with scholarships, paid school fees, sponsored surgeries, empowered youths and women, provided medical outreach programmes and humanitarian assistance across communities.
“My decision to contest for the House of Representatives is not driven by personal ambition, but by the desire to offer compassionate, accountable, and people-centered leadership. I believe our youths deserve opportunities, our women deserve empowerment, and every community deserves development,” he stated.
The declaration attracted party supporters, youth groups, women associations, and community leaders from Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa, and Ugwunagbo local government areas.
Speaking at the event, the Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, described Josiah’s entry into active politics as positive for democratic participation in the state.
Also speaking, the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike, said Josiah had shown commitment to humanitarian causes and possessed the capacity to represent the constituency effectively.
The Labour Party Chairman in Obingwa LGA, Hon. Tony Ngwakwe, described Josiah as a philanthropist whose interventions had affected several families and communities.
“Evansino is known mainly as a philanthropist and also a pastor. It is not just about politics. We believe that if he gets the opportunity to represent our people in Abuja, he will do even more for the people,” he said.
Political support groups, including Abia Arise, Chioma Abia, and the New Abia Movement, as well as traditional stakeholders and grassroots associations, were present at the event.
Organisers said more than 3,000 supporters attended the declaration ceremony.

A young man, Abubakar Haruna, in Potiskum, Yobe State, died in a road accident during a bride conveyance celebration.
The accident, which occurred on Friday, has renewed concerns over reckless conduct by youths during social ceremonies in the community, as a group of young men escorting a bride rode motorcycles in a dangerous and aggressive manner through a busy part of the town.
An eyewitness, according to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), explained that the riders moved at high speed, performed risky manoeuvres, and showed little regard for pedestrians or other road users.
The report added that the deceased’s brother, Muhammad Haruna, confirmed the incident, saying the situation quickly turned tragic as the convoy approached a crowded section.
Haruna further explained that his brother was standing by the roadside when one of the riders struck him violently on the head. He lamented that the impact caused Abubakar to lose balance before falling into a nearby drainage channel.
He stated that before anyone could help him, he had already died from the injuries sustained.
According to him, “Abubakar Haruna’s death is heartbreaking, sudden, and entirely preventable.”
The deceased’s brother stated that the incident was not only painful to the family, but “something that should never have happened.”
Muhammad said reckless riding during bride conveyance celebrations had become common among youths in the area, adding that every celebration now comes with dangerous motorcycle displays that put innocent people at risk.
He called on authorities in Yobe State to introduce stronger safety regulations and enforce existing traffic laws, stressing that if the government does not act now, more innocent lives may be lost through carelessness and indiscipline.
