Kaduna Pilgrims advised to remain prayerful as Hajj ends

Kaduna State pilgrims have been advised to intensify their prayers in order to reap the immense benefits of worshipping in Makkah, even though Hajj officially ended last Saturday.

A member of the Special Hajj Committee, Sheikh Haliru Maraya, gave the advice after Zuhur or afternoon prayer at the Ibrahim Khalil street residence of the pilgrims on Saturday.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary of Governor Uba Sani, Malam Ibraheem Musa on Sunday, recalled that about 1.7 million pilgrims from around the world performed the 2026 Hajj.

The statement noted that Hajj begins on the 8th and concludes on the 13th day of Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar, which fell between 25th to 30th May in the Gregorian calendar this year.

Speaking to the congregation after afternoon prayer, Sheikh Maraya said that any act of worship in Makkah attracts more rewards than that which is performed elsewhere.

According to Sheikh Maraya who is the Chairman of the 2026 Hajj Preaching Committee, acts of worship in the city where Prophet Muhammad(SAW) was born is rewarded 100,000 times by Allah(SWT).

The Islamic cleric who warned the pilgrims to desist from sinful acts, disclosed that the mere contemplation of such acts are recorded as if the sins have been committed.

He advised the pilgrims to resist the temptation of wanting to return home in a hurry, adding that such thoughts are usually the handiwork of the devil or shaytan.

The Chairman of the Preaching Committee reminded the pilgrims to engage in voluntary prayers, read the Qur’an and offer various supplications in order to benefit from their stay in Makkah after the Hajj.

Sheikh Maraya also asked the pilgrims to pray for Nigeria and its leaders as well as the end of security challenges bedeviling Nigeria.

He commended Governor Uba Sani for providing the logistics and empowering Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, that enabled a hitch-free 2026 Hajj exercise.

Former Chairman of Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Prince Samuel Onuh, has emerged as the Labour Party’s consensus candidate for the Benue South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Onuh was affirmed by members of the Labour Party drawn from the nine local government areas that make up Benue South Senatorial District during a peaceful exercise monitored by party officials and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday.

Party leaders described his emergence as a demonstration of unity and determination to strengthen the Labour Party’s presence across Zone C ahead of the 2027 elections.

Results announced at the end of the exercise showed that Onuh polled a total of 123,000 votes across the district to secure the party’s ticket.

Speaking shortly after his emergence in Otukpo, Onuh congratulated members of the party for what he described as a peaceful, transparent and credible exercise.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me by members of our great party across the nine local government areas of Benue South.

Together, we will build a stronger platform that will deliver effective representation, development and opportunities for our people,” Onuh added.

The Labour Party Chairman in Benue State, Williams Ochonu, congratulated party members for their orderly conduct during the exercise.

Ochonu also congratulated all candidates who emerged through the party’s internal process and urged them to remain loyal and committed to the ideals of the Labour Party.

“Today’s exercise has demonstrated the maturity, unity and strength of our party. I commend our members for conducting themselves peacefully and responsibly throughout the process,” he said.

He urged party members to return to their respective communities and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hundreds Arrested In France After Wild Champions League Celebrations

Clashes between football fans and police across France have led to more than 400 arrests following the victory of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League final against Arsenal.

Thousands of officers were deployed to curb unrest that disrupted bus, train and rail services in the capital Paris.

Fireworks and flares were set off, while several police officers were injured in the fray. Police fired tear gas to disperse crowds in the city centre.

There was similar violence when PSG won the same trophy last year, with celebrations turning deadly. This time, the authorities were better prepared with a “very robust, very solid system in place”, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.

Paris’s iconic Champs-Élysées was swarmed by fans shortly after the French team won in a penalty shootout.

Footage from the city shows flares being set off, electric bikes burning on roads and revellers smashing the glass of at least one shopfront.

Earlier in the day there were clashes between police and supporters who showed up to watch the final on giant screens at PSG’s Parc des Princes.

Police said six vehicles, two businesses and a bus shelter were damaged during the unrest.

According to the authorities. 416 had been arrested in the early hours of Sunday, including 280 people in Paris.

Nuñez said seven officers had been injured and called the unrest “absolutely unacceptable”.

Far-right leader Marine Le Pen wrote on X: “Only in France does a football club’s victory spark riots.”

“Only in France does everyone feel compelled to lock themselves in their homes on the evening of a victory to avoid being confronted with violence,” she said.

Players are due to take part in a victory parade on Sunday afternoon, which includes touring the Champ-de-Mars next to the Eiffel Tower and a reception held by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Flamingos Coach Warns Against Complacency Ahead Of Guinea Clash

Coach of Nigeria’s U-17 team, the Flamingos, Hakeem Busari, has warned his girls against complacency ahead of today (Sunday) FIFA’s U-17 Women’s World Cup second round second qualifier against the Syli National of Guinea.

Busari, whose team come into the encounter with a commanding 5-0 advantage, charged his girls to remain focused and committed in completing the assignment professionally, warning against taking it for granted despite holding a sizable first-leg advantage.

“Complacency will naturally set in as humans when you are ahead in terms of goals and performance,” Busari said ahead of the game.

“I see Guinea as a team that can still want to fight back. On our side, we still need to give more because we are playing at home. Our fans want to see the beauty of the game, we want to showcase what we have, we want to win excellently.”

    Nigeria’s U-17 team, the Flamingos

The Kwara state born ex-Shooting Stars coach also revealed that much of the team’s preparation since returning from Côte d’Ivoire has centred on maintaining the right mentality and intensity in training.

The Flamingos host their Guinean counterparts at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo for the second leg of the qualifying fixture. The first leg was played a week ago at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian side put up a dominant performance in the first leg encounter, combining attacking flair with tactical discipline to place themselves firmly on course for the final qualifying round.

The Flamingos have continued to build a reputation as one of the continent’s most promising youth sides in women’s football in recent years.

Recall at the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup held in 2022, Nigeria finished in historic third-place finish which is still the country’s best-ever outing at the tournament when they defeated Germany via penalties to win bronze.

Straight victory or an aggregate success over Guinea would send Nigeria into the final round of the qualification campaign as the Flamingos continue their quest for another appearance on the world stage.

The expanded 24-team FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held later this year in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, with the official draw already concluded earlier this month by FIFA.

Insecurity :Popular TikToker Mama G Attacks Pastor Adeboye For Cancelling Protests

Popular TikToker Mama G has sparked reactions online after releasing a video in which she strongly criticized the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, over reports that an alleged planned protest by church members in Oyo State was stopped.

The controversy comes in the wake of the kidnapping of pupils and teachers from a school in Oyo State, an incident that has generated widespread concern and renewed calls for improved security measures.

In a video circulating on social media, Mama G alleged that RCCG members who intended to allegedly stage a peaceful protest over the abduction were prevented from doing so. She further claimed that the action was influenced by the church’s relationship with Nigeria’s First Lady, who is a Pastor in the church. However, these claims have not been independently verified.

Expressing her frustration, the TikToker launched a scathing attack on Pastor Adeboye, accusing him and other prominent pastors of contributing to Nigeria’s problems. She described Adeboye as a “blood-sucking demon” and alleged that religious leaders have failed to speak up on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

Mama G also claimed that some church leaders have negatively affected the future of Nigerian children and mothers, while directing curses at Pastor Adeboye and his family. In the emotional outburst, she further accused RCCG pastors of wrongdoing and declared that they would eventually face the consequences of their actions.

The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users supporting her call for greater accountability from religious leaders, while others condemned her remarks as disrespectful and excessive.

Neither Pastor Adeboye nor the RCCG leadership had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report.
