UCL Final: Referee punished Arsenal, whistled against them – Samir Nasri on PSG triumph

Former Arsenal attacking midfielder, Samir Nasri, has claimed that the referee punished the Gunners for systematically wasting time in the first half during their Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend.

Nasri insisted that the referee whistled against Mikel Arteta’s side in the second half of the encounter.

PSG defeated Arsenal 4-3 on penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw to lift the Champions League trophy for a second consecutive season.

Ousmane Dembele cancelled Kai Havertz’s goal for Arsenal after Cristhian Mosquera had felled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the box in the second half.

During the shootout, Eberechi Eze, Nuno Mendes and Gabriel Magalhaes all missed their kicks.

“In the second period, the referee systematically whistled against Arsenal,” Nasri told Canal+’s Late Football Club (via GOAL).

“He punished them for their time-wasting in the first half.

“If he whistles for a penalty [Nuno Mendes’ foul on Noni Madueke], I don’t think VAR would have cancelled it. But the fact that he didn’t whistle is not a scandal either. He will never take an uncalculated risk.”

‘He’s a former President, respect him’ – Wike speaks on calls for Jonathan to contest

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed talks about the comeback of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2027 general election.

Wike said no politician is being pressured or persuaded by the public to contest elections, insisting that aspirants usually signal their interest before receiving support.

Wike made the remarks on Monday while fielding questions during his monthly media parley in Abuja, where he spoke on speculations surrounding Jonathan’s rumoured political ambition.

According to the FCT minister, no politician is drafted into an election race without first indicating a willingness to contest.

He argued that narratives suggesting that political figures are being persuaded by the public to seek office are often misleading.

Wike maintained that individuals who eventually contest elections usually have already expressed interest, either directly or indirectly, before supporters begin mobilising around them.

Wike said: “You don’t go and bring somebody to run. Somebody will say I prefer to run and come and talk to you.

“Nobody sits there to say I mean…, nobody comes to you.

“When you hear sometimes politicians say people want me to come out, nobody wants anybody to come out. Nobody is sleeping inside and people will say come and run for an election. It’s either you have shown signal that you are interested.

“Did Jonathan ever express interest? He’s a former President and people should respect him. Nobody knows a candidate by body language.”

Ogun: Youths, mothers protest against Oyo abduction, demand closure of schools

Residents of Ogun state on Monday  protested against insecurity in the country and recent abduction of 39 school children and seven teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The protesters, comprising youths and nursing mothers, carried placards with various inscriptions such as “The crime they committed is they went to school, release our children and teachers”, ” Stop brutality, kidnapping, banditry” , ” Stop insecurity, Nigeria is falling apart” , “Our future is crying for help!!! help!!! help!!!, “Let us believe in our country again”, “Bring back our school children”,  “End terrorism in Nigeria”, among others.

Recall that on May 16, 2026, armed men raided three schools — Community Grammar School, L.A. Primary School, both in Ahoro-Esinele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School, in Yawota, — located in the Oriire Local Government Area, near Ogbomoso.

DAILY POST reported that one of the teachers abducted form Community Grammar School, Mr Micheal Oyedokun (a mathematics teacher) was beheaded by the terrorists.

Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators at the Panseke skating ground in Abeokuta, a pastor identified as Juwon Owolabi, lamented that residents can no longer sleep well as they do not know who will be the next victim

Owolabi insisted that the country is at a tipping point where no one, including the rich or poor is safe, asserting that even businesses cannot go on.

“This is a time where the parents and everyone is grieving. We cannot continue like this, we sleep with anxiety and panic and we trust that the government have the capacity and what it takes to end this insecurity now.

“We know that if it doesn’t end now, no one would be save at the end. We stand with the parents, the families of those who are in the den of these terrorists.

“We are at a tipping point. We are at a point that if we don’t do anything about this insecurity, all of us would be victims of it. It doesn’t matter who you are, whether you are a civil servant, whether you are rich, poor, you are not safe.

“Nobody is safe. It’s time we all come out, there is power in our numbers. The government must know we are united.  Don’t wait till 2027 election, you don’t even have a choice. The choices are made for you already, so this is the time for us to speak out peacefully,” Owolabi said.

He begged the Nigerian government to deploy all necessary instruments to ensure that the abducted children are released and the security of communities is guaranteed.

Also speaking, an entrepreneur, identified as Ada Comfort, disclosed that although her children are not part of the victims, she is having nightmares over the welfare of the children.

Comfort argued that insecurity has also affected her business, stating that the least the government can do is to protect the lives and properties of its residents.

“For someone like me, I’m into Asoke and I travel to Iseyin and Ilorin. For the past week I cannot travel, I can’t do anything . I have orders coming in but can’t work.

“I know that every mother whose children are in the captivity of the bandit are not happy, my kids are not there but I can’t sleep, I daydream about those children and can’t imagine how terrible the mothers of those kids are feeling at the moment.

“The least the government can do for us as citizens is to provide security, we are begging them,” she said.

Our correspondent observed a nursing mother and her child during the protest and when spoken to, Precious Jonathan disclosed that she joined the protests because her children and other children out there deserve a better Nigeria.

She said, “My baby is one year and a month old. I’m out because of my child and my unborn children. I want a better Nigeria for all of us. The government should please remember us and  give us a better Nigeria.

“The other day it was raining heavily and I stood to close the windows and wrap my baby up. And I immediately remembered the children in the bush,” she said crying.

Meanwhile, Ayodeji Ojo, a businessman in the state, asserted that the kids are innocent, urging the security agencies to double their efforts.

“Please we need action and not just negotiation, if we keep talking slowly they will keep coming  back for us and we don’t know who is next.

“If we keep folding our hands, your family and mine can be the next person,” he added.

The demonstrators demanded that all schools should be closed down untill the security challenges are well handled and the kidnapped children are released.

They added that terrorists and kidnappers can never change, urging the government to take strict actions to save the children.

Our correspondent observed a strong police presence at the protest ground and when asked, one of the security operatives stated that they were on ground to ensure that the protest goes smoothly and is not hijacked by hoodlums.

  • Ojude Oba 2026 Was Bigger, Brighter and Full of Nourishment and Happiness with Maltina

Ojude Oba 2026 Was Bigger, Brighter and Full of Nourishment and Happiness with Maltina

Every year, the ancient city of Ijebu-Ode transforms into a breathtaking celebration of heritage, identity, and community as thousands of people return home for Ojude Oba, one of the country’s most iconic cultural festivals. This year, themed “Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona,” was no different.

From the moment the Regberegbe groups began arriving in coordinated aso-oke, it was clear Ojude Oba 2026 would once again be a spectacle of colour, pride, and tradition. The Baloguns rode in with all the grandeur and confidence people have come to expect. Families gathered under canopies, cameras flashed endlessly, and everywhere you turned, there was music, conversation, laughter, and the unmistakable feeling of homecoming.

What makes Ojude Oba special is not just the fashion or the pageantry, though there is plenty of both. It is the way generations come together in one place. Elders reconnecting with old friends. Young people proudly embracing traditions they grew up watching. Families creating new memories while honouring old ones.

And woven naturally into those moments this year was Maltina. Under the warm Ijebu sun, chilled bottles of Maltina became part of the festival rhythm, passed across tables during conversations, enjoyed between horse-riding displays, and shared amid laughter-filled reunions. Across the festival grounds, the brand created spaces where people could relax, refresh, and fully settle into the day.

Rather than interrupting the experience, Maltina blended into it effortlessly. It was present in the moments of celebration, connection, and shared happiness that define Ojude Oba at its core.

Speaking on the brand’s presence at the festival, Elohor Olumide-Awe, Head, Non-Alcoholic Portfolio, Nigerian Breweries Plc, described Ojude Oba as a celebration that naturally aligns with everything Maltina represents.

“Maltina has always been a brand rooted in nourishment, happiness, and shared family moments, which is why Ojude Oba was such a natural fit for us. The festival represents community, pride, and cultural continuity, and we were proud to be part of an experience that brings people together in such a meaningful way,” she said.

As the echoes of celebration slowly fade across Ijebu-Ode, the memories of shared laughter, rich culture, and nourishing moments with Maltina will linger warmly in the hearts of attendees until the people gather once again for another glorious Ojude Oba celebration next year.

Peter Obi doesn’t like struggling, he’s food is ready politician — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Monday took a swipe at the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, describing him as a “food is ready” politician who lacks the capacity to confront the challenges of leadership.

Wike spoke on Monday during his monthly media parley in Abuja, insisting that leadership requires resilience, courage and the ability to withstand pressure, not merely criticizing others or seeking easy paths to power.

According to him, Nigeria’s challenges demand leaders who can confront difficulties head-on rather than retreat when confronted with obstacles.

“Peter Obi is like food is ready, ‘mama put’. I don’t want struggling in this country. There are challenges. You must have the capacity to face those challenges,” Wike said.

The FCT minister argued that true leadership is tested in difficult times, insisting that leaders must remain steadfast even when faced with opposition and criticism.

Drawing from his experience in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wike recalled how he resisted pressure to leave the party despite internal crises and the influence of political opponents.

“You saw in PDP, all the governors, I said I will not leave this party. They had money, yes, but it’s not money. I said I was not going to leave, rather you will leave. Have I left? Have you not left?” he stated.

Wike also recalled the criticism he faced upon assuming office as FCT minister, saying he endured intense public attacks but remained focused on his responsibilities.

“That’s what makes you a leader. That’s what makes you a man. Leadership is not bashing you. That’s not leadership. You remember when I came here as a minister, there was nothing I did not, no abuse I did not get,” he added.
