Former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Anthony Sani, has said 4a majthe ority of Northerners would not agree to vote for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in 2027.
This was as Sani hinted that the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would never agree to do one term as president.
Sani, who disclosed this in a chat with DAILY POST, underscored the dangers of split within the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former ACF scribe stressed the need for a viable alternative opposition in Nigeria ahead of the general election.
He said: “In 2023, the opposition was split into PDP, NNPP, Labour Party and Wike’s G5. As a result, Bola Tinubu rose from the ashes of opposition split.
“Currently, the opposition is split into factions of PDP, ADC and NDC. And as long as the politics of identity called zoning is preferred by both the North and the South, and the South wishes to complete its 8 years while the North expects to produce the president in 2031, the dynamics favour President Bola Tinubu, who must leave that office in 2031.
“President Peter Obi would not agree to do one tenure while the majority of northerners will not vote for former VP Atiku lest they spoil the existing politics of identity.
“I mentioned two factions of PDP to underscore the level of split of the opposition reminiscent of what happened in 2023 that made it possible for Bola Tinubu to rise from the ashes of opposition split. I am concerned about the need for a viable alternative platform for opposition.”

The Israeli military has confirmed the death of one of its soldiers during ongoing combat operations in southern Lebanon.
In a statement released on Monday, the military identified the fallen soldier as Staff Sergeant Adam Tzarfati, 20, who was killed while participating in operations in southern Lebanon.
Military officials disclosed that the soldier died during an attack reportedly carried out by Hezbollah fighters, marking another casualty in the renewed conflict between Israeli forces and the Iran-backed militant group.
According to security sources, the attack involved the use of an armed drone targeting Israeli troops operating in the area.
The latest fatality brings to 26 the number of Israelis killed since hostilities resumed in early March. The casualties include 25 military personnel and one civilian contractor.
The conflict reignited after Hezbollah resumed attacks along the northern front following military strikes launched against Iran earlier in the year, drawing the region deeper into a broader security crisis.
In recent weeks, Israeli forces have expanded ground operations inside southern Lebanon, saying the objective is to weaken Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and strengthen security positions near the border.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly vowed to continue military operations until threats posed by Hezbollah are neutralised, while Lebanese authorities and international observers have expressed concerns over the growing humanitarian and security implications of the conflict.

The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, NDPC, has attributed about 94.7% of data breaches and attacks to the lack of skilled personnel, especially in Nigeria.
The National Commissioner of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, stated this at the flag-off of the Technical and Organisational Drill on Data Protection Measures for IT Administrators Across MDAs, going on in Abuja.
He said that breaches of data and cyber attacks can lead to financial loss and reputational damage, adding that individuals who attack networks do it for several reasons, including embarrassing the government, financial gains, and just for the fun of it.
He said, “We’re moving almost every aspect of our life online, and there are challenges outside with these cyber attacks and breaches, and by the way, every 39 seconds a breach will occur, and this road, the effect runs to billions of dollars globally, and human capital has been recognised.
“94.7% of breaches are attributed to a lack of skilled personnel, and that’s the average globally. It’s even more in Nigeria.
“Looking at the wave of attacks in the recent months, we felt it’s really important for us to create awareness, let network administrators, data preachers, data protection officers know what they need to put in place in terms of technical and organizational measure, to ensure that they protect their network, they protect their database from unauthorized access that will lead to negative consequences on the part of the evaluation.”
He added that the NDPC is going to train Permanent Secretaries and heads of agencies on data protection.
