CJF condemns abduction of Sapele Council Chairman, Abeke

A group under the auspices of Concerned Journalists Forum (CJF), Nigeria, on Sunday, condemned in strong terms the recent abduction of the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke by gunmen, on Friday.

This is contained in a statement by CJF National Chairman, Comrade Emeka Nwokocha and the Secretary, Comrade Celestine Ukah.

They said the kidnappers had a field day while their operation lasted.

CJF expressed worry about worsening crime rate in Delta State, describing it as a scary development.

CJF also noted with dismay that the safety of Deltans were “oftentimes discussed and assured on symposiums and speech-making sessions, but not much action is practically put in place to protect lives and property of Deltans as guaranteed by Section 14(2b) of the 1999 constitution, as amended”.

It reiterated its concern about the erosion of public trust for government institutions whose responsibility is to protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

It called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to demand better commitment from the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi to rid the state of criminal elements whose murderous activities had gotten worse across the state in recent months.

Police Arrest Suspect Who Robbed Job Seekers In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged robbery incident in which job seekers were lured to a fake interview in the Magodo area of the state and dispossessed of their valuables.

The arrest follows a viral video last week that raised concern on social media over the rising threat of sophisticated scams targeting desperate applicants.

In the video shared by X user @General_Somto on April 10, applicants could be seen scattered, with a few putting their hands on their heads.

One of the victims could be heard recounting the experience, warning others to be cautious of fraudulent job offers.

“Nigerians, let’s be careful out there… Not all job offers are legit. We went for a job interview in Magodo, Lagos only to be robbed. They took our phones, money, and everything we had on us,” she said.

According to details shared in the comments section of the video, the setup appeared professional and trustworthy at first.

The interview was held in an organised environment, and nothing initially raised suspicion.

However, victims claimed they were asked to step out briefly, only to return and discover that their personal belongings—including mobile phones, cash, and other valuables—had been taken.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued via its X handle on Sunday, saying the matter is under investigation.

“The Command confirms that the incident captured in the viral video is under investigation. The case was reported at about 11:00 p.m. on 09/04/2026.

“One suspect is currently in Police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects and bring all those involved to justice.”

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of job offers before attending interviews, especially those advertised online.

It advised job seekers to confirm company details through official channels, avoid isolated or unverified venues, and inform trusted contacts before attending interviews.

Revealed: How Notorious Cult Leader " Yinka Agali " Was Assassinated In Lagos

A suspected leader of the Buccaneers cult group in Surulere, Lagos, Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as Yinka Agali, has been shot dead.

Agali was killed on Saturday night, April 11, 2026, in the Iponri area of Surulere. He was regarded as a prominent and influential figure within the group in the area.

Reports indicated that he was shot while driving in the Iponri axis. Some accounts linked the incident to rivalry between cult groups, while others suggested possible political undertones ahead of local elections.

Videos circulating on social media indicated that the deceased had political links with the All Progressives Congress.

Responding to enquiries, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that a gunshot was reported around 11:30 p.m. on April 11 near the National Stadium Bridge towards Iponri. A patrol team from Surulere Division moved to the scene and found the victim inside an unregistered white Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 with gunshot wounds.

Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the victim was rushed to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead and his body deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

She added that the assailants abandoned an unregistered black Ford Edge and fled in another vehicle. Both vehicles have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects.

Adebisi also said the family of the deceased has retrieved the body and indicated that it is not pursuing a case.

Olubadan Alleged Dethronement Plan : Oba Ladoja ,Gov Makinde Deny Fayose’s Claim

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday disagreed with the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, over a reported plot to dethrone Ladoja.

In their separate reactions in Ibadan, the state capital, Makinde and Ladoja, through their media aides, described the reported plot to dethrone the Olubadan as unfounded and baseless rumour.

Fayose had, on his X handle, written that Makinde was plotting to remove Ladoja as Olubadan of Ibadanland.

He wrote: “I heard reliably that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland,  Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja.

“The plot is to commence this week, with a government query to be issued against the Olubadan, citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland two weeks ago, and other allegations.”

The media aide to Oba Ladoja, Adeola Oloko, in an interview, described the statement credited to Fayose as unfounded.

He affirmed that there was no rift between Makinde and Olubadan to warrant such moves.

“It will be most unfortunate if it is not a rumour. Though I read it just the way you read it online. I don’t see the cause of friction between the governor and Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said.

Also, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, submitted that the government had never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“By now, Nigerians know who and what to believe, especially when the information comes from a particular quarter.

“Oyo State Government has never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“There has to be a credible motive for every government action, and this, coming from the unofficial spokesman of our opponents, is better put in the refuse dump where it belongs.

“Desperate politics foists thoughtless propaganda and reduces democracy into a joke,” he said.

  • Donald Trump’s Ally Orbán Swept Out Of Office After 16 Years In Hungary Presidential Election

Donald Trump’s Ally Orbán Swept Out Of Office After 16 Years In Hungary Presidential Election

Donald Trump’s ally Viktor Orbán’s 16 years in power is over, and the system condemned as an “electoral autocracy” lies in tatters, defeated by a 45-year-old former party insider who convinced a majority of Hungarians to bring it to an end.

“We did it,” Péter Magyar told a crowd of cheering supporters in a square beside the River Danube, overlooking Budapest’s magnificent parliament on the other side.

“Together we overthrew the Hungarian regime.”

Preliminary results, based on more than 98% of votes counted, put his Tisza party on course for an extraordinary 138 seats, with Orbán’s Fidesz on 55 and the far-right Our Homeland on six.

Péter Magyar is on course for a constitutional majority he needs to reverse Orbán-era reforms

For two years Magyar took his burgeoning movement around villages, town squares and cities, rallying Hungarians who had had enough of the cronyism and corruption that had become endemic over years.

“Never before in the history of democratic Hungary have so many people voted – and no single party has ever received such a strong mandate,” he said on Sunday night, after a record 79% of the electorate turned out to vote.

Orbán’s rule was built up through four successive election victories and sweeping majorities, but it was over in a matter of minutes.

As pro-Magyar supporters waited expectantly in the square on the Buda side of the Danube, the Tisza leader posted an extraordinary message on Facebook: “Viktor Orbán just called me on the phone and congratulated us on our victory.”

There was barely time to digest what had just happened and only 30% of the vote had so far been counted.

But moments later Orbán himself appeared on a stage in a conference centre a mile down-river on the other side of the Danube, surrounded by his glum-looking Fidesz party colleagues.

“The result of the election is clear and painful,” he told them, thanking the estimated 2.5 million Hungarians who stuck by him. “The days ahead of us are for us to heal our wounds.”

Word began to spread among Magyar supporters, and at the nearby hotel that had become party HQ, Tisza activists hugged each other.

Magyar has promised to reverse Orbán-era changes to education and health, tackle corruption, restore the independence of the judiciary and kill off the widely loathed system of patronage known as NER that helped enrich party loyalists and squander state resources.

To make those changes to the constitution, he needed a two-thirds majority of 133 seats, and although the final results are not yet in, latest results suggest Tisza is on course for 138.

Another target in Magyar’s sights is pro-Orbán state media. The M1 TV channel has until now slavishly toed the party line, along with what were once independent websites bought up over time by Fidesz allies.

Apparently uncertain what to do next, M1 rebroadcast a speech that Magyar had given just after the vote had finished. He had been hopeful of victory at the time, but by now the speech was out of date – he had already won.

Hungary has for some time felt like two different worlds running in tandem. In one, Orbán convinced his supporters and TV viewers they were heading for victory and four more years in power, backed up by opinion polls run by sympathetic pollsters, who continued to forecast a Fidesz victory as late as Sunday evening.

In the other world was Magyar, attracting big crowds wherever he went, backed up by respected pollsters reporting an increasing lead over his rival.

On Sunday night, those two worlds collided, and only one was real.

Magyar moved slowly through the crowds before taking to the stage, flanked by his party colleagues.

“You performed a miracle today, Hungary made history today,” he told the audience, to chants of “Ria-Ria-Hungaria!”

He likened their electoral victory to the Hungarian revolution of 1848, and the uprising against Soviet occupation in 1956.

There was a time when Orbán himself spoke out against Soviet occupation, but he has become a close partner of Russia’s Vladimir Putin, and his justification of cheap Russian oil and petrol has made him a highly unpopular leader in the EU, which has tried to shake off its reliance on Russian imports. Orbán has also reneged on an EU agreement to provide Ukraine with a €90bn (£79bn; $105bn) loan.

“Russians go home,” Magyar supporters chanted, as the next Hungarian prime minister promised better relations with the European Union.

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk was among the first of many European leaders to welcome Magyar’s “glorious victory”, adding in Hungarian “Ruszkik Haza” – Russians go home.

The Tisza leader pledged that his first trip abroad as prime minister would be to Warsaw – to reinforce Hungary’s 1,000-year friendship with Poland.

As for Orbán, now 62, he has not resigned, and without him it is difficult to imagine what will happen to Fidesz.

For now he will continue to lead Hungary in a caretaker role, while he and his party lick their wounds
