Hezbollah leader asks Lebanon to cancel Tuesday meeting with Israel

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem on Monday urged Lebanon to cancel a planned meeting with Israel in Washington the following day, reiterating his group’s rejection of direct negotiations with its foe.

“We reject negotiations with the usurping Israeli entity… We call for a historic and heroic stance by cancelling this negotiating meeting,” Qassem, whose Iran-backed group has been at war with Israel since March 2, said in a televised address.

The Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to the United States are scheduled to meet in Washington on Tuesday to discuss holding direct negotiations between the two countries.

Lebanese authorities have stressed that Beirut first wants to secure a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war, but Israel has dismissed that prospect, saying it prefers instead to focus on formal peace talks with Lebanon itself, with which it has technically been at war for decades.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday that “we want the dismantling of Hezbollah’s weapons, and we want a real peace agreement that will last for generations”.

To Qassem, “these negotiations are futile and require a Lebanese agreement and consensus”.

Israeli strikes have killed more than 2,000 people in Lebanon and displaced more than a million since Hezbollah drew the country into the Middle East war.

“We will not surrender,” Qassem said as his fighters faced off with advancing Israeli troops in southern Lebanon.

“We will remain in the field until our last breath.”

The appointment was announced by the Executive Council of the GFA after consultations with key stakeholders. Queiroz will lead Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Queiroz brings a wealth of international experience to the role. He previously qualified South Africa to the 2002 FIFA World Cup, took Portugal to the round of 16 at the 2010 tournament, and coached Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. He has also worked with national teams in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar.

NPFL: Deutsch cautions Enyimba over relegation threat

Enyimba technical adviser Emmanuel Deutsch has warned his players they can’t afford to relax after Sunday’s home win against Katsina United.

The nine-time champions eased their relegation worries with a comfortable 3-0 over Katsina United in Aba.

Veteran winger Stanley Dimgba, Chidera Michael and Womah Wilson got the goals for the People’s Elephant.

Enyimba moved to 13th position in the table with 43 points.

Deutsch, who expressed satisfaction with his team’s victory insisted that they must keep working hard with four matches remaining before the end of the campaign.

“I’m very comfortable. I feel very happy with the result, but it’s not yet over because there are still four matches to be played,” the Cameroonian said after the game.

“We’ve moved up on the table, but we should not remain there. We must work harder to climb further because it’s not yet over.”

Enyimba will be up against second-placed Rangers in an Oriental Derby at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, this weekend.

DNA reveals couples are cousins after three kids together

    By Enitan Abdultawab

Two happily married couples were left in shock after a 23andMe DNA reveals that they are cousins.

The couples named Celina and Joseph Quinones, had wedded after a four-month relationship, had three children together but the wife always questioned the ancestry origins of the kids due to a disparity in their skin and hair colours and textures.

Celina, who spoke on the Love Don’t Judge podcast, said: “I started really diving into my DNA because I wanted to find out my heritage – my daughter is really dark-skinned, and my son has curly hair my middle child is light-skinned, and everyone would ask ‘what are you what are you?’ I couldn’t really give an answer except Native American.”

Hence, she confirmed that the couples decided to go for a DNA, but was left shattered from the results of the test.

“When I realised that we were cousins I was a little sick to my stomach, and was thinking, ‘Should we get a divorce? Are we even supposed to be together?”

Celina, however, said that their indecision prompted her to post a video of her talking about the situation on TikTok but was met with several shocking comments, but racking up millions of views in the process.

“I did not know it was going to blow up that big.” She revealed the cruel responses, adding: “One person on there said ‘this is so disturbing, why would you marry your cousin?’

What was amazing was that none of Celina and Joseph’s relatives knew each other at their wedding.

The couples later realized that Joe’s father’s grandmother had been adopted, which caused the mistake because of poor record-keeping.

“Colorado seems so big, but it’s really not that big. Everyone knows everyone, and most likely, everyone is related”, Celina said.

To avoid this situation to happen to other people, the couple created a dating app, Before We Be, for prospective couples.
