Labour Party under my leadership not trouble maker, we’re going to Supreme Court – Abure

Labour Party factional national chairman, Julius Abure, says the party under his leadership is not a trouble maker.

Abure made this statement on Wednesday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

He was reacting to the recent ruling of the Court of Appeal, which dismissed his suit and recognized Nenadi Usman as the authentic national chairman of the party.

Abure also affirmed that he and his loyalists will go to the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling of the appellate court.

DAILY POST reports that the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, in a unanimous judgement delivered by a three-member panel of Justices, dismissed the appeal filed by Abure challenging the leadership of the Labour Party.

Reacting, Abure said, “I am not the one re-litigating on what the Supreme Court litigated upon. Sen Nanadi Usman is the one who went back to the Federal High Court.

“We only appealed against the judgment of the Federal High Court, and we are already preparing to go to the Supreme Court.

“Nigerians must know that the Labour Party under my leadership is not the trouble-makers of the party.”

EPL: Man City’s 1-0 win at Burnley best result for Arsenal – Gary Neville

Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has said that Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday night, is the best result Arsenal could have hoped for.

Erling Haaland scored the only goal in the sixth minute, as City went top of the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola’s men are only ahead of Arsenal on goals scored.

“It’s a win for Manchester City. But it’s the best win Arsenal could have hoped for. One nil,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“It’s all to play for. Arsenal have a home game against Newcastle on Saturday where they can reassert their three-point lead.

“It didn’t happen for Manchester City tonight. They will have to play better than that or they will drop points.

“But Pep Guardiola knows he had to come away with three points. And he’s done that.”

2026 World Cup: Trump’s envoy tells FIFA country that should replace Iran

US President Donald Trump’s envoy, Paolo Zampolli, has asked FIFA to replace Iran with Italy at the 2026 World Cup.

This is part of a plan to repair ties between Trump and Italy’s prime minister Giorgia Meloni.

The two leaders fell out following Trump’s attacks against Pope Leo XIV over the Iran war.

“I confirm I have suggested to Trump and [FIFA president Gianni] Infantino that Italy replace Iran at the World Cup.

“I’m an Italian native and it would be a dream to see the Azzurri at a US-hosted tournament.

“With four titles, they have the pedigree to justify inclusion,” Zampolli told the Financial Times.

Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup, after they lost 4-1 to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a qualifying play-off in March.

NAFDAC Raids Lagos Factories, Seizes N350m Counterfeit Alcohol

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and dismantled two illegal production outlets involved in the counterfeiting and adulteration of alcoholic beverages in Lagos State.

NAFDAC said its enforcement operatives raided facilities at Zamfara Plaza, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos Island and recovered over 1,800 cartons of counterfeit and adulterated alcoholic products valued at approximately N350m.

The agency disclosed this in a tweet on Wednesday. It said Its enforcement operatives acted on credible intelligence.

“At the Trade Fair Complex, the officers discovered makeshift production setups equipped with plastic mixing tanks, improvised filtration systems, empty branded bottles, corks, and packaging materials used to produce and package fake alcoholic drinks,” NAFDAC said.

It added that a similar operation in Lagos Island led to the arrest of a suspect linked to the illegal production and distribution of counterfeit beverages through a retail outlet.

It further stated that all recovered items were seized and evacuated for further regulatory action.

The agency warned that the consumption of adulterated alcoholic beverages pose serious health risks, including poisoning, organ damage, and death.

It urged the public to purchase products only from authorised outlets, and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free line 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).

  • U.S. Navy Secretary Resigns Abruptly Amid Iran Hormuz Crisis

U.S. Navy Secretary Resigns Abruptly Amid Iran Hormuz Crisis

United States Navy Secretary John C. Phelan has resigned from his position with immediate effect, departing the Trump administration in the middle of one of the most intense naval operations the US has undertaken in decades.

The Pentagon confirmed the departure on Wednesday, with spokesman Sean Parnell stating that Phelan was leaving “effective immediately” and that Undersecretary Hung Cao would become Acting Secretary of the Navy. No reason was given for the abrupt exit.

Phelan’s departure comes as the Navy is helping oversee a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, one of its biggest operations in decades.

Phelan, born in 1964, was confirmed as the 79th Secretary of the Navy in March 2025 after a bipartisan Senate vote of 62 to 30. A Wall Street businessman and campaign donor, he was co-founding partner of MSD Capital, a private investment firm established to manage the capital of tech billionaire Michael Dell.

His resignation lands at an extraordinarily tense moment in US-Iran relations. The US Navy began a military campaign to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in March, and from April 13, Trump announced that the Navy itself would blockade the strait, preventing ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports.

The strait carries roughly 20 percent of the world’s seaborne oil. On April 18, Iran announced it was closing the strait again in response to the US refusing to lift the naval blockade.

The situation deteriorated further on Wednesday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and a container ship was fired on by an IRGC gunboat northeast of Oman, causing heavy damage to the vessel’s bridge.

Despite the escalation, Trump extended the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely to allow its leaders to come up with a unified proposal, but insisted the naval blockade would remain in place.

A planned second round of peace talks in Islamabad collapsed after Iran said it would not attend while the blockade continued.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt insisted the blockade has been “massively effective” and was “inflicting maximum leverage and economic pressure” on Iran. Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres cautiously welcomed the ceasefire extension, calling it “an important step toward de-escalation and creating critical space for diplomacy.”

The reason behind Phelan’s sudden departure has not been disclosed by the Pentagon or the White House.
