Outrage In Oyo After Motorcyclist’s Death During Clash With Police

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a motorcyclist following a confrontation with officers along the Iseyin/Oyo Road.

The incident triggered public concern and a brief protest in the area.

In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the encounter involved operatives of the Border Patrol Unit and a Fulani man riding a motorcycle.

According to the police, the situation escalated after the rider allegedly became violent, leading to a clash with the officers. During the altercation, the man was struck and fell from his motorcycle.

He was subsequently taken to a medical facility, where he was pronounced dead.

“Earlier today, an encounter occurred between police officers from the Border Patrol Unit stationed along the Iseyin/Oyo Road and a Fulani man riding a motorcycle.

“Information available indicates that the individual became restive and violent, leading to a confrontation with the officers. During the ensuing clash, he was struck and fell from his motorcycle,” the statement read.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate detention of all officers involved, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation. The command also disclosed that an autopsy has been mandated to determine the exact cause of death.

The police noted that the incident sparked a brief protest in Iseyin, which was quickly contained after authorities assured residents that justice would be pursued. Normalcy has since been restored, with the command promising to provide further updates as investigations progress.

The development followed the recent incident in Delta State involving the alleged shooting of a restrained suspect by a police officer, which drew widespread condemnation after a video surfaced online.

Osun: Police deny alleged attack on Gov Adeleke’s son

The Osun State Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged assassination attempt on Adebayo Adeleke, aka B-Red, son of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The police described the report as false, unverified, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among members of the public.

The state government had earlier, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, announced that B-Red escaped an assassination attempt at Oke-Fia in Osogbo on Wednesday.

However, reacting to enquiries, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, refuted the claim and provided details of the reported incident.

“The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of an incident reported on 30th April 2026 at about 1630 hrs by Mr. Adebayo David Adeleke,” he said.

Ojelabi explained that the complainant reported being followed by a group of individuals on motorcycles while driving along the Olaiya–Alekuwodo area of Osogbo.

According to him, “the individuals were allegedly pointing at his vehicle and chanting words suggesting he was ‘the Governor’s son’.”

He added that after passing a traffic light, a white Toyota Venza without a registration number, accompanied by unidentified men on motorcycles, continued to trail him.

“The complainant stated that he and his associates were able to leave the area and safely made their way into the Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo,” Ojelabi said.

He noted that the complainant confirmed he was neither attacked nor physically harmed during the incident.

The police spokesman said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that the report, as presently being circulated, is false, unverified, and capable of causing unnecessary tension and panic among members of the public,” he added.

We’re crisis-free party – APM declares, welcomes Bauchi Governor Mohammed

The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, has said the party is free from litigation and internal crisis, as he welcomed Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, following his defection.

Dantalle commended the governor for choosing the APM, assuring him and his supporters of the party’s readiness to work with them.

“As long as it is about integrity, sacrifice and service, that is what defines political parties,” he said.

He added, “When you hear Nigeria APM, you respond with Nigeria First, but that does not mean you cannot localise it.”

The APM chairman described Bauchi as a politically unique state, noting that all parties compete fairly, reflecting its democratic culture and inclusiveness.

“Bauchi State is peculiar in the North and Nigeria at large when it comes to decision-making. It is a state where political parties contest fairly, which speaks to your democratic nature and inclusivity,” he said.

Dantalle reiterated the party’s commitment to working with the governor, expressing confidence that the development would strengthen the APM ahead of future elections.

Earlier, Governor Mohammed announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), stating that he moved with his full political structure from ward to state level.

The governor announced on Saturday after a meeting with PDP stakeholders in Bauchi, describing the current political situation as “extraordinary” and “complex”.

He said efforts to resolve the crisis within the PDP, including consultations in Abuja, did not yield the desired results, particularly after the Supreme Court judgement nullified parallel conventions held by factions within the party.

According to him, the ruling left both sides without legal standing, with the party’s Board of Trustees temporarily taking over its affairs.

Mohammed said, “After careful consideration and wide consultations, it has become clear that our efforts to restore stability have not yielded the desired results.”

He, however, appreciated the PDP for its role in his political journey.

“We remain grateful for this history and the opportunities provided,” he said.

The governor explained that his decision to join the APM was aimed at providing a credible and stable platform for his supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The APM offers us a viable platform to organise effectively, mobilise our supporters, and present a credible alternative,” he said.

He added that the party is not encumbered by legal disputes that could hinder its activities.

Mohammed also announced measures to ensure a smooth transition, including the establishment of a compliance committee, commencement of online membership registration, engagement with the Independent National Electoral Commission, and mobilisation at the grassroots.

He disclosed that members of the State Executive Council intending to contest elective positions had resigned their appointments.

Reaffirming his commitment to democratic ideals, the governor said, “We love the PDP because we are PDP at heart, but we had to move to continue the struggle and provide good governance.”

UDISAM Transport Company petitions IGP, others over alleged advance fee fraud by Ebonyi ex-commissioner

A transport operator in Ebonyi State, UDISAM Mass Transit Company, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and other security agencies over alleged advance fee fraud, criminal intimidation, and threats to life involving a former state government official and his associates.

In petitions dated April 3 and April 22, 2026, and addressed through the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and legal representatives, the company’s Director, Comrade James Igwe, accused a former Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Celestine Nwali, alongside several others, of fraudulently obtaining money under false pretence.

According to the petitions, the transport company had earlier secured approval and paid the required fees to the Ebonyi State Government for a loading bay at the Central Motor Park, Abakaliki, under the previous administration.

However, at the start of the current administration, the former commissioner allegedly approached the company, claiming authority over motor park operations and directed that payments be made through him and his agents.

The company stated that it subsequently paid N400,000 to individuals introduced as representatives of the former commissioner, believing the payment to be legitimate.

Trouble reportedly began when the company discovered inconsistencies surrounding the payment, after which the accused persons allegedly mobilised suspected hoodlums to disrupt its operations, obstruct business activities, and issue threats of violence.

The petitioner further alleged that the individuals, some reportedly dressed in military uniforms, engaged in acts of intimidation, besieged the company’s premises, and posed a serious threat to the lives of the director, staff, and workers.

The complainant is urging security agencies to investigate the matter, bring those responsible to justice, and ensure the protection of lives and property, warning that the situation could lead to a breach of peace if not urgently addressed.

Contacted on the phone, the accused former commissioner, Hon. Celestine Nwali, said he was in a meeting and did not have time to respond to the allegations.

Also contacted, Mr Toochukwu Nwali, whose account number was allegedly used to receive the money on behalf of the former commissioner, acknowledged having an issue with the company’s director, whom he identified as Mr. Samanja.

He, however, said he was in Ikwo Local Government Area at the time of filing this report and had not responded to further calls after several attempts to get his comments.

BREAKING: Bauchi Governor Dumps PDP For APM

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Mohammed announced his defection on Saturday following a meeting with political stakeholders convened to deliberate on the implications of the Supreme Court’s judgment on the PDP leadership crisis and to determine a way forward.

Speaking after the meeting, the governor said he had spent the past eight days in Abuja engaging key stakeholders in efforts to resolve the party’s internal challenges.

He noted, however, that the apex court’s verdict, which nullified parallel conventions conducted by rival factions within the PDP, had significantly altered the political landscape.

According to him, the judgment effectively stripped both factions of legal standing, leaving the party’s Board of Trustees to temporarily oversee its affairs.

He added that subsequent developments had further deepened uncertainty within the party.

“After careful consideration and wide consultations with leaders and stakeholders across the country, it has become clear that our efforts to restore stability have not yielded the desired results,” he said.

The governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing a platform for his political growth and service but stressed the need to move on in the interest of governance and political stability.

“However, as responsible leaders, we cannot allow our people to be left without a credible and effective political platform,” he stated.

Mohammed explained that his decision to join the APM was a strategic move aimed at ensuring political continuity and electoral success.

He described the party as a viable platform free from legal encumbrances.

He also disclosed that members of the State Executive Council interested in contesting elective offices had resigned in line with the law.

While appreciating the PDP for its role in his political journey, he said the decision to leave was driven by necessity.

“We remain PDP at heart. We are leaving not out of bitterness, but out of necessity—to continue the struggle for good governance,” the governor said.

Announcing his new political platform, Mohammed declared, “Consequently, after extensive consultations, we have taken a firm and strategic decision to join the Allied Peoples Movement.”

To ensure a smooth transition, the governor outlined measures including the establishment of a compliance committee, commencement of online membership registration, formal resignation of interested members, engagement with APM leadership, and the constitution of a committee to interface with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and united, emphasising that the move was not borne out of uncertainty but a deliberate repositioning.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, formally accepted the governor and his supporters into the party.

Dantalle described the APM as a “clean, democratic party” guided by the motto “Nigeria First,” with principles anchored on integrity, sacrifice, and service.

He commended Mohammed’s leadership style, describing Bauchi as a state where democratic values thrive and political participation is inclusive.

The APM chairman also highlighted the party’s performance in recent local government elections, noting that it secured councillors victories and remained competitive alongside other parties.

He assured the defectors that the party has no internal crisis, stressing that it operates strictly in accordance with its constitution.

Dantalle subsequently presented the governor with his membership card and party insignia, symbolising his formal admission into the party.

He added that the party’s symbol, the cassava plant, represents resilience, inclusiveness, and economic value, reflecting its vision for national development.

  • Lagos: LAWMA revokes licences of underperforming PSP operators

Lagos: LAWMA revokes licences of underperforming PSP operators

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has revoked the licences of several underperforming Private Sector Participation, PSP, operators and restructured waste collection routes in areas experiencing increased waste generation across the state.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Lagos.

Gbadegesin explained that the action followed a comprehensive operational review aimed at matching operators’ capacity with the rising waste management demands driven by rapid urban growth.

He noted that the affected operators were unable to meet the required service standards, making the withdrawal of their licences necessary to safeguard public health and ensure environmental sustainability.

The operators listed include Kenny JPS (Igando-Ikotun, Egan II), Clean Craft Nig. Ltd. (Igando-Ikotun, Isheri-Oshun I), Doveroost Ltd. (Eti-Osa West), Dewayls (Orade, Ijegun Emure), and Pesjoy Ventures (Ejigbo, Bucknor II).

The LAWMA boss further stated that waste collection routes have been reorganised in fast-developing areas to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Under the new structure, existing operators will continue to manage parts of their designated zones, while additional operators have been deployed to support coverage and enhance performance.

“Operators affected by the route realignment include Shekaz Global Ltd. (Isolo, Ishaga/Ire Akari axis) and Krestabol Waste Management (Ikorodu, Lowa),” he said.

He added that in areas where expansion has exceeded the capacity of a single operator, redistribution of responsibilities became necessary to ensure timely waste evacuation.

Gbadegesin also disclosed that some operators voluntarily ceded portions of their routes, enabling LAWMA to reassign those areas to more capable service providers.

“Operators in this category include Ayolade Oluwabukola Enterprises (Lagos Island East, Ajele axis) and Imperium Waste Services (Ayobo/Ipaja, Slot B),” he added.

He emphasised that the restructuring is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the PSP framework, improve accountability, and ensure that waste management services keep pace with the state’s rapid development.

Residents were urged to cooperate with newly assigned operators and to engage only LAWMA-accredited PSP operators.

Gbadegesin reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustained monitoring, enforcement, and stakeholder collaboration to achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos.
