Tinubu Urged Me To Drop Senate Bid, Says Ayade

Former Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has said President Bola Tinubu asked him to withdraw from the senatorial race, a request he said he has accepted despite expressing dissatisfaction over the development.

The former governor stated this in a statement on his Facebook page on Monday said that the directive followed a high-level consultation with the Presidency in Abuja.

“Mr President wants me to withhold my Senate ambition. I yield to his request even as I pour tears of ill treatment and agony,” he said.

The former governor, however, suggested that the President may not have been fully briefed on the political dynamics in Cross River State, particularly regarding those he claimed benefitted from the decision.

“Mr President may not be aware that the beneficiaries of his order are people armed against us with guns and machetes in the collation centres,” he stated.

Ayade recounted his contributions to the All Progressives Congress, noting that he was the first APC governor in the South-South region and played a key role in strengthening the party’s presence in Cross River.

“I worked assiduously for the party and delivered almost 40,000 votes above PDP in the Presidential election, first in the history of our State,” he said.

He also lamented what he described as years of political sidelining, adding that he had not received any appointment despite his support for the administration.

“For over three years, I have been sidelined without appointment,” he said.

Ayade further expressed frustration over being asked to step down in favour of what he described as a recent entrant into the party.

“Yielding ticket to a newest entrant from opposition just under five months is a spiritual murder,” he said.

Despite his grievances, the former governor urged his supporters to remain calm and respect the President’s directive, while also hinting at a possible review of the decision.

“Let us tarry and honour Mr President even as we still appeal for the review of his order,” he said.

He also instructed his supporters not to purchase nomination forms for the Senate race for now, stating that doing so would amount to disobeying the President.

“I suggest that my supporters should not buy the form as I’ll be guilty of going against the order of Mr President,” he added.

Ayade maintained that he remains loyal to the ruling party and pledged continued support for its candidates if the directive stands.

“We would support all our APC candidates… and join hands with our President and Governor to deliver APC at all levels in the State,” he said.

Cybercrime Allegation: Court Remands Content Creator Justice Crack In DSS Custody

A Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded social critic, Justice Chidebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” in the custody of the State Security Services, SSS.

He was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime, breach of public peace, and felony, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Following the arraignment, counsel for the SSS, Mark Oruba, asked the court to remand the defendant in custody in the interest of public security.

However, defence counsel opposed the application, informing the court that although they had been served with the charges, they intended to file a bail application for hearing later in the week.

The presiding judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, ordered that the defendant be remanded in SSS custody until May 25 for the commencement of trial and hearing of the bail application.

In a statement released on Saturday, May 2, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said Justice Crack was arrested following a post he made on social media featuring soldiers’ complaints about their feeding and general welfare. It said a deeper look at the matter revealed that the influencer’s engagement with the soldiers went beyond welfare concerns.

The Army said his post and interactions with the soldiers showed he was trying incite the soldiers to create discontent within the system.

The United States military says two of its merchant vessels have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command, CENTCOM, made this known in a post via X on Monday.

“American forces are actively assisting efforts to restore transit for commercial shipping,” CENTCOM said.

This comes a day after President Donald Trump vowed to guide vessels through the waterway, where Iran is attempting to control shipping.

Meanwhile, CENTCOM has not provided the names of the vessels which it says have successfully sailed through the strait.

DAILY POST recalls that Iran had issued a stern warning that it would attack any United States forces seen at the Strait of Hormuz.

‘Please allow me to contest’ – Ayade pleads as Tinubu orders ex-gov to drop Senate ambition

Former Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, has yielded to a directive from President Bola Tinubu to withdraw his ambition for the Cross River North Senate seat in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Monday, Ayade disclosed that he was recently invited to Abuja for a high-level national consultation with the Presidency.

According to him, the President at the meeting directed him to shelve the senatorial bid.

Ayade said, “Recall I was invited to return to Abuja for a high-level national consultation with the Presidency.

“From the sequence of events that followed my return, Mr. President wants me to withhold my Senate ambition. I yield to his request even as I pour tears of ill treatment and agony.”

Ayade highlighted his “crucial role” in building the All Progressives Congress in the South-South region, noting that he was the first APC governor in the zone and delivered nearly 40,000 more votes than the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

“I trust that Mr. President may not be aware that the people who turned our churches against Ayade and all of us in APC over the Muslim-Muslim ticket and accused us of islamisation of Cross River State are the beneficiaries of his instruction.

“Mr. President may recall that I was the first APC Governor in the whole of South-South Nigeria that built the new APC that we enjoy today.

“I worked assiduously for the party and delivered almost 40,000 votes above PDP in the Presidential election, first in the history of our state,” he added.

Despite these efforts, Ayade said he has been sidelined for over three years without any federal appointment.

He added that he is currently running a free transportation scheme to support the President’s expected 2027 re-election bid.

Ayade appealed to the President to revisit the directive, arguing that his federal constituency has only enjoyed senatorial representation for eight years, while his main opponent has had 20 years.

US denies reports Iranian missiles struck Navy ship

The United States Central Command, CENTCOM, has debunked reports that one of its warships has been struck by two Iranian missiles.

CENTCOM made the rebuttal in a statement posted on X, noting that no US Navy ships have been struck.

According to CENTCOM, the US forces were supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Earlier, the Iranian military earlier claimed that it had prevented a US Navy destroyer from entering the Strait of Hormuz.

The semi-official Iranian news agency, Fars, said a vessel was hit by two missiles as it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz in violation of traffic and shipping security.

“With the decisive and swift warning from the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the entry of enemy American Zionist destroyers into the Strait of Hormuz area was prevented,” the reported statement posted by the semi-official outlet linked with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps read.

  • Kayode Akinmade: Gateway International Airport officially goes global with historic Hajj flight

Kayode Akinmade: Gateway International Airport officially goes global with historic Hajj flight

Ogun State etched its name in Nigeria’s aviation history on Sunday night as the newly commissioned Gateway International Airport handled its first international flight, airlifting Muslim pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The milestone not only marked the commencement of Hajj operations in the state but also positioned Ogun as a rising force in regional and international air transport—emerging as the first departure point for Nigerian pilgrims in this year’s exercise.

The flight, operated by Max Air, departed Iperu at about 11:00 p.m. with 345 pilgrims—151 males and 194 females—alongside officials of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board. After a 4,600-kilometre nonstop journey, the aircraft landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport around 4:15 a.m. Nigerian time.

Beyond the symbolic departure, the event was underscored by the successful handling of a large-capacity international aircraft—widely regarded as the biggest to have landed at the airport. The development signals the facility’s readiness to accommodate wide-body operations, reinforcing its compliance with global aviation standards and its capacity for long-haul international travel.

The airport, commissioned on April 4, 2026, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has transitioned swiftly from a newly unveiled project to a fully operational international gateway.

Speaking shortly before departure, Governor Dapo Abiodun described the inaugural flight as a defining moment in the state’s development trajectory.

“What we celebrate today goes far beyond the arrival and departure of an international aircraft; it is a testament to focus, determination, resilience, commitment, sacrifice and teamwork,” the governor said.

He noted that the successful operation reflects Ogun State’s growing infrastructure capacity and strategic ambition, positioning it as a hub for commerce, investment, and global connectivity—particularly given its proximity to Lagos.

Governor Abiodun expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria for designating the airport as one of the centres for Hajj operations. He also charged the pilgrims to uphold the image of Nigeria by demonstrating discipline, integrity, and respect throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia.

In his remarks, NAHCON Chairman, Ismail Yusuf, represented by Alhaji Olanrewaju Elegushi, said the new departure point would significantly ease logistics for pilgrims across the South-West by eliminating the need for long-distance travel to other airports.

He noted that Gateway International Airport stands out as the first state-owned facility in the region cleared for Hajj operations without limitations, attributing the achievement to its modern infrastructure and strict adherence to international aviation standards.

Traditional and religious leaders, including the Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola, and the Chief Imam of Gbagura, Prof. Emeritus Kamaldeen Balogun, described the project as transformative, noting that it has effectively removed the long-standing stress associated with international travel through Lagos.

The Amir Hajj 2026, Alhaji Shamsideen Apelogun, urged pilgrims to approach the exercise with a sense of responsibility, reminding them that they represent both Ogun State and Nigeria on the global stage.

On behalf of the pilgrims, Dr. Muritala Ejalonibu described the moment as historic, while several travellers expressed excitement at being among the first beneficiaries of the new international gateway.

Upon arrival in Saudi Arabia, the pilgrims were received by Hajj officials, processed through immigration, and transported to their accommodations in Medina ahead of the commencement of Hajj rites.

Beyond the immediate success of the Hajj airlift, the development highlights a broader strategic achievement. By delivering its inaugural international flight, leading the first batch of Nigerian pilgrims for 2026, and successfully accommodating a wide-body aircraft, Ogun State has demonstrated both vision and execution.

The initiative of Governor Abiodun has not only transformed infrastructure into functionality but has also firmly positioned Ogun as an emerging aviation hub—opening new pathways for economic growth, investment, tourism, and global engagement.

With this milestone, Ogun State has moved decisively from ambition to reality, securing a strategic foothold in Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
