Police hand over recovered vehicles, tricycle to owners in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has handed over two recovered vehicles and a tricycle to their rightful owners following a series of successful operations against theft in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, on behalf of the Commissioner on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the command, led by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the recoveries were made within the last two weeks through intelligence-led operations and support from members of the public.

“The recovered items include a Pontiac Vibe car, a Toyota Corolla, and a CNG-powered tricycle, all valued at several millions of naira,” the statement revealed.

According to the statement, on May 3, 2026, police operatives attached to Tarauni Area Command recovered a Pontiac Vibe with registration number KMC-175CU in Darmanawa Quarters.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen at about 3:00 a.m. the same day from the owner’s residence,” the statement said.

The police added that the owner was identified through the vehicle’s particulars, and the car has since been released to him, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects.

In another case, the Command said it recovered a Toyota Corolla LE, 2004 model, which was stolen in Abuja.

“The vehicle was stolen on April 22, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wuse, Abuja, and was later traced to Darmanawa Layout in Kano,” the statement added.

Police operatives from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) recovered the vehicle, which has also been handed over to its owner.

“The suspects have been identified and are still at large,” the statement added.

The command also confirmed the recovery of a stolen CNG tricycle and the arrest of three suspects in connection with the case.

According to the police, the tricycle rider was attacked and poisoned by the suspects in Kaduna State before the vehicle was taken away.

“The suspects were intercepted in Kano, and the tricycle was recovered along Ring Road. The suspects were identified as Umar Rabi’u, 32, Yahaya Hannafi, 20, and Amina Muhammad, 21. They are currently assisting the police in the investigation,” the statement disclosed.

The police said all the recovered items were returned to their owners during a brief ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Bompai.

The Commissioner of Police also praised officers involved in the operations and members of the public who provided useful information.

The police further advised residents to install tracking devices in their vehicles, avoid parking in isolated areas, and always report suspicious activities to security agencies.

  • U.S. Says Iran Ceasefire Intact Despite Fresh Gulf Attacks

U.S. Says Iran Ceasefire Intact Despite Fresh Gulf Attacks

The United States says its ceasefire with Iran remains intact despite rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran launched fresh attacks on Gulf allies and both sides traded fire.

U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters at a Pentagon briefing on Tuesday that the ceasefire is not over.

“No, the ceasefire is not over. Ultimately, this is a separate and distinct project, and we expected there would be some churn at the beginning, which happened,” he said.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine said Iran has attacked U.S. forces more than ten times since the ceasefire was announced, but the strikes remain below the threshold for restarting major combat operations.

The UAE said it came under attack from Iran for the first time since the ceasefire began in early April, with air defences engaging 15 missiles and four drones fired from Iranian territory. Authorities in Fujairah said one drone sparked a fire at an oil facility, wounding three Indian nationals.

Oman was also targeted, with authorities confirming that a residential building near the strait was struck, leaving two foreign workers wounded, four vehicles damaged, and nearby windows shattered.

The U.S. military sank six small Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran launched cruise missiles, drones, and small boat attacks against U.S. Navy ships and commercial vessels under American protection. Trump later said seven small Iranian boats were destroyed and confirmed there was no U.S. damage, apart from a South Korean vessel that was struck.

Hegseth dismissed Iran’s claim that it controls the Strait of Hormuz.

“They said they control the strait. They do not,” he said, adding that the U.S. is “locked and loaded” to defend its people, ships, aircraft, and escort mission.

The tensions centre on Trump’s “Project Freedom” initiative, launched on Sunday, under which the U.S. military escorts commercial ships through the strait.

Iran blamed the initiative for triggering the attacks, with an Iranian military official telling state television that the U.S. must be held accountable for what he described as adventurism in the strait.

An Israeli source told CNN that Israel and the U.S. are also coordinating preparations for a potential new round of strikes aimed at pressuring Iran into further concessions in ongoing negotiations.

The planned campaign, described as short, would target energy infrastructure and senior Iranian officials, and was largely prepared ahead of last month’s ceasefire.

Analysts warn that the escalating attacks are threatening the already shaky ceasefire as both sides struggle to make progress in talks on a lasting end to the war.

S&P Global Energy has warned that even after the Strait of Hormuz reopens, it will take a minimum of seven additional months to fully restore upstream oil production, with the supply crisis potentially stretching into 2027.

The UAE condemned what it called renewed Iranian aggression and called for an immediate halt to the attacks. The European Union, Canada, and several other nations also condemned the strikes and called for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed the U.S. escort initiative, writing on X that “Project Freedom is Project Deadlock,” while warning Washington and the UAE against being dragged into what he called a quagmire.

EPL: They will throw away more points – Agbonlahor predicts title winners

Former Aston Villa striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has predicted that Arsenal will still win the Premier League, even if they drop points against West Ham on Sunday.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor claimed Manchester City will not win all their remaining fixtures.

City were held to a 3-3 draw at Everton on Monday and only took a point, thanks to Jeremy Doku’s last-gasp goal.

Agbonlahor said: “If it finished with an Everton win, I would have said it is over. But Doku equalized.

“Arsenal have to go to West Ham. This is one of the biggest games of West Ham’s last 10 years. They can turn up and make it difficult for Arsenal.

“There is no reason why West Ham can’t get a draw. Don’t get me wrong, it will be difficult.

“If they draw this weekend, then it’s back on.

“I still think Man City throw away more points. They’ve got Crystal Palace, they’ve got Brentford who are fighting for European football home, they’ve got Aston Villa and Bournemouth – that will be Iraola last home game.”

2027: Peter Obi working for Tinubu – Adeyanju alleges

As the race for the 2027 presidency heats up, activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, new entrant, Peter Obi is working for President Bola Tinubu.

Adeyanju made the remark while accusing opposition leaders in Nigeria as the most useless and irresponsible in Africa.

Posting on X, Adeyanju lamented that it’s a shame for Nigeria to have a divided opposition despite the events that happened in the country in the last three years.

He wrote: “Peter Obi is working for Tinubu. The opposition leaders in Nigeria are the most useless in Africa. They are too irresponsible. For Nigeria to still have a divided opposition in 2026 after what happened to this country in the last 3 years is a huge shame.

“These guys are sworn enemies of Nigeria. Tinubu is not even playing at all. Can you imagine.”

This comes as Obi, who recently joined the ADC defected to the NDC alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.

During the last presidential election, Obi contested under the LP, while Tinubu ran on the platform of the APC.

  • Everton Fan Arrested For Alleged Semenyo Racist Abuse

Everton Fan Arrested For Alleged Semenyo Racist Abuse

Merseyside Police arrested an Everton fan during his side’s match against Manchester City for alleged racist abuse towards Antoine Semenyo.

The supporter was apprehended at the Premier League fixture between the sides at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, which finished 3-3.

Police said a 71-year-old man from Nottinghamshire was arrested “on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence” after “supporters and stewards reported that racist abuse was shouted by a fan”.

“An investigation into the incident during the match remains ongoing and we continue to work closely with Everton FC,” said a police statement.

“He has now been bailed with conditions, which includes not to go within one mile of any designated sports stadium in a period of up to four hours before kick-off, during the match and up to four hours after the game has ended.”

Everton said in a statement that “behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated”.

“Racism and discrimination in all forms are completely unacceptable. They have no place in our stadia, our sport or in society,” the club said.

“The club will continue to work closely with the authorities to support their investigation and will take the strongest possible action in line with its zero-tolerance approach.”

It is the second time Ghana international Semenyo, 26, has been the target of racist abuse this season.

While playing for former club Bournemouth in the opening Premier League match of this season, Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during their 4-2 defeat at Liverpool.

Semenyo subsequently said more should be done to tackle racism in football, including possible prison sentences for those convicted of abuse.

Manchester City praised the “swift action” of Everton and Merseyside Police.

The club said England defender Marc Guehi, 25, also suffered online racist abuse following the match.

“We are incredibly disappointed to hear that Marc Guehi was subject to a series of vile racist social media posts last night,” said a City statement.

“We will continue to offer our full support to both Antoine and Marc and never accept discrimination of any kind in our game.”
