Togo Removes Visa Requirements For All Africans

Togo has announced the removal of visa requirements for nationals of all African countries, allowing them to enter the country and stay for up to 30 days if they have a valid passport.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement issued by Togo’s Ministry of Security through its official X handle, describing the move as a historic step in strengthening African integration.

“Henceforth, all nationals of African states holding a valid national passport may enter Togolese territory without a visa, for a stay of up to 30 days.

“Through this major reform, the President of the Council reaffirms his commitment to making Togo a space of openness, mobility, opportunities, and cooperation at the heart of the African continent,” the statement read.

The exemption applies at all entry points including land borders, airports and sea ports.

The ministry clarified that the visa-free policy does not override existing laws on irregular entry or illegal stay, and that all standard immigration, security and public health requirements remain in force.

Travellers are however still required to complete a travel declaration on the Togolese government’s official platform at least 24 hours before arrival in order to obtain a travel slip to be presented at border posts.

The policy puts Togo among a handful of African nations that have moved to dismantle entry barriers for fellow Africans. There had been calls for deeper continental integration under the African Union’s free movement agenda.

The statement added that Togo seeks to become a regional hub for services, business, culture and human exchange at the heart of Africa.

Rwanda has implemented a similar visa-free policy in recent years. Nigeria responded by granting Rwandan nationals a 30-day visa exemption.

Previously, only citizens of the fifteen Economic Community of West African States member countries enjoyed visa-free access to Togo under the 1979 ECOWAS Protocol on Free Movement of Persons.

The new policy extends the openness to all 54 African nations.

Agbede-Ally Rejects APC Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Reps Primary

An All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency of Cross River State, Antonia Agbede-Ally, has alleged that no valid primary election was conducted in the constituency.

Agbede-Ally made the claim on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show while reacting to the recently concluded APC House of Representatives primaries across the country.

According to her, the process leading to the exercise was marred by confusion and exclusion of some aspirants.

“There was significant chaos before the supposed primaries. A meeting was held for all APC members in the region, but I was not invited,” she said.

She alleged that she had to force her way into the meeting venue, where key party stakeholders and political leaders were gathered.

“I forced my way into the hall, where the Chairman of Obudu LGA and several dignitaries were present, including the incumbent representative for the constituency, Hon. Peter Akpanke of the House of Representatives,” she stated.

Agbede-Ally further claimed that during the meeting, participants were informed that the Cross River State Governor had directed party members to support the incumbent lawmaker.

“During the meeting, I was told that the Cross River State governor had directed that Hon. Akpanke was supported, despite the fact that I and another aspirant were present and wished to contest,” she alleged.

The APC aspirant insisted that no voting process took place in her area, adding that party members were allegedly instructed to support Akpanke.

“No election was held to that effect even in my area. My people had confirmed they were directed to vote Peter Akpanke,” she said.

Tinubu buying, compromising people in unprecedented ways — Inibehe Effiong alleges

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has accused President Bola Tinubu of engaging in widespread political inducement and influencing individuals in an unprecedented manner.

In a post shared on X on Tuesday, Effiong alleged that many individuals who were previously seen as principled have become indifferent to issues of governance.

He further claimed that some Nigerians are now either “pretending to be neutral” or offering excuses for the administration while quietly resisting calls for change.

According to him, “By the time Bola Tinubu is done destroying this country, we will have to conduct a special census to determine the number of people whose integrity are still intact.

“Tinubu is buying and compromising people in an unprecedented way.

“People we thought were principled are now blind, deaf and dumb to bad governance in our country.

“Some are pretending to be neutral, while at the same time making excuses for Tinubu and tacitly opposing any effort to change the status quo.”

Hisbah Arrests Man Hiding In ‘Ghana Must-Go’ Bag At Married Woman’s House In Kebbi

Operatives of the Hisbah Board, an agency under the Kebbi State Ministry of Religious Affairs, have arrested a man allegedly found hiding inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.

The Director of Sharia at the board, Sirajo Kamba, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Kamba, residents of the area alerted Hisbah around 12:15 am on Monday, May 18, after noticing a man entering the woman’s house.

“The residents suspected an illicit affair contrary to Islamic teachings, hence their decision to formally notify the authority,” he said.

“Upon receiving the report, the Kebbi Hisbah Board swiftly deployed officers to investigate.

“When officers arrived, they requested permission to search the house, but the woman initially denied that anyone was inside,” he said.

The director, however, said the woman later obliged and allowed a thorough search, which led to the discovery of the suspect concealed inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag.

He added that further investigation revealed an alleged romantic relationship between the man and the married woman.

Kamba said that upon interrogation, both suspects admitted to the allegation, adding that they would be arraigned in court to face legal proceedings under Islamic law.

Man City To Replace Guardiola With Ex-Chelsea Coach

Enzo Maresca is set to replace Pep Guardiola as Manchester City manager before next season.

The iconic City boss Guardiola is expected to leave the club following Sunday’s game against Aston Villa at Etihad Stadium, their final match of the season.

Former Chelsea head coach Maresca has been identified as the leading contender to replace the legendary Spaniard for the 2026-27 season.

With City preparing for Guardiola’s summer exit for more than six months, talks with Maresca are at an advanced stage.

The 46-year-old wants the job and is expected to be confirmed as Guardiola’s successor in due course.

The Italian manager, who won the Club World Cup and Conference League while securing Champions League qualification during his only full season at Stamford Bridge, previously worked at City.

He worked directly under Guardiola during City’s treble-winning 2022-23 campaign and played a key role in the club’s academy prior to joining the first team.

The former West Brom and Juventus midfielder left City in 2023 to manage Leicester, whom he guided to promotion to the Premier League in his only season.

Guardiola said previously: “One of the best managers in the world, Enzo Maresca, I know him quite well, but the job he has done at Chelsea does not get enough credit.

“Winning the Club World Cup, Conference League, qualification for the Champions League in a league that is so tough with a young team. It is exceptional.”
