  • Kwara Gov Backs Seriki For 2027 APC Guber Ticket

Kwara Gov Backs Seriki For 2027 APC Guber Ticket

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has thrown his weight behind Yahaya Seriki of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

AbdulRazaq, in a Facebook post on Tuesday seen by THE WHISTLER, said the decision followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders and leadership structures across the state.

The development may further deepen political tensions within the ruling party in the state.

The governor’s endorsement came barely 24 hours after confusion trailed the APC senatorial primary election in Kwara Central.

Senator Saliu Mustapha was reported to be planning to contest against the governor for the Senate ticket if he’s not the APC’s consensus governorship candidate.

“Following extensive consultations with party structures and leadership, I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read.

He further described Seriki as a youthful and people-oriented politician with strong political mobilisation capacity and widespread grassroots acceptance across the state.

“Young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded, Amb. Yahaya Seriki has been a great political mobiliser with profound investments in and extensive goodwill among the people of Kwara State. I have no doubt about his capacity and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time,” the governor stated.

Abdulrazaq also explained that his endorsement does not invalidate the aspirations of other governorship seeking the APC ticket ahead of the party’s primary election slated for Thursday, May 21, 2026.

“While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party as we hold our gubernatorial primaries on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people. But in a race involving some 16 great minds for one office, only one person can take the shot at a time.

“Finally, I acknowledge and commend the statesmanship of our aspirants, all of whom have shown discipline and impressive capacity to build on the undeniable achievements of our administration over the last seven years for the good of the people of Kwara State,” the governor said

ALGON Donates 90 Patrol Vehicles To Osun Security Agencies

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun Chapter, on Tuesday donated 90 patrol vehicles to boost security agencies’ operations in the state. The Chairman of ALGON in the state, Mr Samuel Abiodun, donated the vehicles at the state police headquarters in Osogbo on behalf of the state local government chairmen and councillors.

Abiodun described the gesture as a demonstration of ALGON’s commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of the people in the state. He said that the local government remained the closest tier of government to the people and that they understood the peculiar security challenges within their communities.

The chairman said that ALGON was determined to give all necessary support to address security challenges more effectively. He said that the provision of the patrol vehicles was not only a security intervention, but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria.

“The vehicles will enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable our security agencies to be more proactive on security issues,” Abiodun said.

He reiterated that security remained a collective responsibility, hence calling on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies by providing timely and useful information.

Responding, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Umar Nadada, appreciated ALGON for the gesture.

Nadada, represented by Osun Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, said it was a clear demonstration of the association’s unwavering commitment to the safety, security and well-being of residents. He said that the donated operational vehicles would significantly enhance their capacity to dominate public spaces and engage in proactive surveillance.

Nadada said the intervention would also help speed up responses to distress calls, ease patrols, ensure visibility policing, and ultimately improve overall operational efficiency for the safety of the state.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command, and other security agencies, I sincerely thank ALGON for this thoughtful and impactful intervention,” he said.

Nadada assured the association that the vehicles would be judiciously and professionally engaged in the best interests of public safety.

He, however, called on other organisations, stakeholders, and well-meaning individuals to emulate ALGON’s initiative. “Together, we can build a safer society for all,” Nadada said.

  • Kaduna APC Primaries Crisis Deepens As Aspirants Protest

Kaduna APC Primaries Crisis Deepens As Aspirants Protest

The crisis trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries in Kaduna State escalated on Tuesday as aggrieved aspirants and their supporters staged a protest over alleged irregularities in the exercise.

Hundreds of demonstrators took to major streets in Kaduna metropolis, including Muhammadu Buhari Way and Ahmadu Bello Way, demanding the cancellation of the primaries across the three senatorial districts.

The protest followed the emergence of Sunday Marshall Katung, former governor Ramalan Yero, and Shehu Sani as winners of the APC senatorial tickets for Kaduna South, Kaduna North and Kaduna Central respectively ahead of the 2027 elections.

Protesters carried placards with messages such as “There was no APC primaries in Kaduna,” and “APC must save democracy,” insisting that the process lacked credibility.

The demonstration was led by former senator Danjuma Laah, alongside other aggrieved aspirants including Michael Ayuba Auta and Yusuf Bala Ikara.

Earlier at a press briefing, the group accused the party of abandoning the direct primary system approved by the APC National Working Committee and instead conducting what they described as an unauthorised delegate-based process.

They alleged that party members were denied the opportunity to vote at the ward level, particularly criticising the Kaduna South primary that produced Katung as lacking transparency and proper monitoring.

According to the protesters, electoral materials and officials were not adequately deployed in several wards, raising concerns about the integrity of the exercise.

They argued that the conduct of the primaries violated provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the APC constitution on nomination procedures and internal democracy.

The aggrieved aspirants called on the party’s National Working Committee, its appeal committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission to intervene and order fresh primaries across the three senatorial districts.

They also warned that failure to address their grievances could deepen divisions within the party and threaten its unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC primaries in Kaduna have continued to generate controversy, with several aspirants alleging manipulation, exclusion, and non-compliance with approved guidelines.

Oluwabukola Pereira, a 30-year-old Nigerian athlete and graduate student, was shot dead in the United States just days before her scheduled MBA graduation.

Pereira was k!lled on Friday May 8, during a robbery at Arise Auto Center in Lockland, Ohio, where she worked.

A worker at the auto shop, Don Simpson, told local television station Marcella Porter TV that Pereira tried to chase a suspect who allegedly fled with about $1,500 before she was shot.

“She was loyal, good and brave,” Mr Simpson said. “She came to this country trying to build a good life.”

Originally from Nigeria, Pereira was due to graduate from Xavier University last Saturday May 16 with a Master of Business Administration degree. The university disclosed that she had also secured admission to continue another postgraduate programme in Business Analytics later this year.

In a statement released by the university president, Colleen Hanycz, Pereira was described as a woman known for her “positivity, deep faith and generous spirit.”

“Friends describe her as kind, honest, intelligent and beautiful — inside and out,” the statement read.

Beyond academics, Pereira was also active in athletics and belonged to Cincinnati’s Elite running group, where she participated in several races, including the Flying Pig Marathon.

Her grieving family described her as “a bright and shining star” who devoted her life to worship, prayer and helping others.

Pereira was the first of four children and was supposed to get married later this year after getting engaged in 2025.

Police authorities have appealed to members of the public with useful information to contact Crime Stoppers as investigations continue.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting suspect is a man who is approximately 25-35 years old. Investigators said he is Black or Hispanic, with long hair worn in braids or dreadlocks. He was last seen running from the scene toward the Gardner Park area.
