Ogun: Police arrest ‘Stone’, five others for theft, recover generators, firearms

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested six suspects during multiple intelligence-led operations across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo areas of the state.

The suspects were allegedly involved in the illegal possession of firearms, armed intimidation, theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

They are Moruf Sodiq, also known as “Okiki”; Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone”; Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo”; Mr Adeboye Ojesina; Afisu Awesu; and Bala Aminu.

In a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, the arrests followed credible and time-sensitive intelligence.

Babaseyi stated that the first suspect, Sodiq, popularly known as Okiki, was linked to a coordinated generator theft network operating within Abeokuta and its environs, while Amodu, aka Stone, was identified as the receiver of the stolen property, and John as the motorcyclist who allegedly conveyed the suspects during their operations.

He noted that during a swift search of Stone’s premises, four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android mobile phones were recovered.

The police spokesperson stated that in another development, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit apprehended 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina for theft, unlawful possession of firearms and the alleged use of the weapons to threaten residents within Wasimi and adjoining communities.

Babaseyi noted that a prompt search led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol, one pump-action rifle, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

According to him, the suspect initially denied ownership but later made a statement claiming he recovered the pistol within the area and discharged a round to test its functionality, while also alleging that the pump-action rifle was handed over to him by an unidentified individual currently being trailed by operatives.

Also, operatives attached to Ibafo Division, acting swiftly on a complaint of theft at a site in Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo, arrested Afisu Awesu while attempting to steal a forklift engine component with an accomplice who escaped.

“Further rapid investigation revealed that the suspects had earlier stolen forklift tyres from the same location and disposed of them to Bala Aminu ‘M’ of Kara, Ibafo. Acting without delay, detectives arrested Bala Aminu as the alleged receiver of the stolen property.

“All suspects are currently in custody while discreet investigation continues, as efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons connected to the crimes.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the swift response, professionalism and operational efficiency of the VCRU, SWAT and Ibafo Division in the execution of the successful operations.

The CP reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to rapid, intelligence-driven policing and sustained pressure on criminal elements to ensure they have no space to operate within Ogun State.

ACPN warns pharmacists against unethical practices, sale of licences

Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has enjoined pharmacists across the country to shun all unethical practices so as to save the profession and members of the public from harm.

ACPN National Chairman, Pharmacist Ambrose Ezeh, made this declaration on Tuesday during the opening of the 2026 Oyo State ACPN Annual Summit in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The event was attended by the immediate past ACPN National Chairman, Pharmacist Aderemi Oladigbolu; ACPN Oyo State Chairman, Pharmacist Adebayo Gbadamosi; Pharmacist Rilwan Subair; Pharmacist Bola Oyawole; and other notable personalities.

Ezeh, while speaking on the theme, “Beyond the Counter: Balancing Professional Ethics, Innovation and Sustainable Growth in a Changing Healthcare Economy,” described ethics as the core value of any profession.

Ezeh, who warned members of the association against involvement in unethical practices such as selling licences and wrong dispensation of drugs, maintained that some people are selling their licences while many are engaged in the wrong dispensation of drugs.

The ACPN National Chairman, who said that unethical practices can harm both the profession and members of the public, then advised members of the association not to engage in any act that will damage the image of the profession and cause harm to the people they are serving.

Ezeh said, “Today’s theme is very important because it mentioned ethical practice. And when you talk about ethics, it means culture and tradition have to work pari passu. It is what guides; it is the core value of the profession. When you graduate, there is oath-taking, which means that you are going to work in accordance with the rules and regulations that guide the profession. You should do things that are good, things that will not harm the people. Things that will not harm the profession and the people. Some people sell their licences because a lot of people who are not pharmacists have invaded this profession.

“I have mentioned a lot of unethical practices. I mentioned a lot. I said when you, as a pharmacist, are not dispensing what you are supposed to dispense, you are not doing it at the right time. It is unethical.

“Dispensing antibiotics when you are not supposed to dispense antibiotics is unethical practice. When you have controlled drugs that are supposed to be under lock and key and they are not under lock and key, it is an unethical practice.”

Gbadamosi, in his welcome address, advised pharmacists to perform their roles without fear or favour in the midst of many challenges.

He charged members to remain focused and jettison all unethical practices that can bring disrepute to the profession and the practitioners themselves.

He said, “Today, community pharmacists operate in an environment shaped by evolving patient expectations, rapid technological advancement, changing healthcare policies, economic pressures and increasing demand for accessible and quality healthcare services.

“In the midst of these challenges, we are challenged to remain true to the ethical principles that define our profession while embracing innovation and building sustainable pharmacy businesses capable of thriving in an increasingly competitive healthcare landscape.”

Relocation : No plans to hijack transport unions’ jobs, revenue – Abia Govt

Abia State Government says it has no plan to hijack the jobs and revenues of transport unions in the state following the relocation of commercial buses to the Nnenna Otti Central Bus Terminal.

This is in response to the anxiety among some transport operators that the enforcement of operations at the central bus terminal could transfer their daily jobs and revenues to the Abia State Government.

But addressing the press on Tuesday on the outcome of the Abia State Executive Council meeting, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, said that the jobs and revenues of transport operators and their unions have not been taken over by the state government, as being speculated.

Kanu, who said that the majority of transport unions in the state are in support of the ongoing relocation to the new bus terminal, explained that the fears raised by some of the transporters in about 29 motor parks in Umuahia are currently being addressed.

“We are meeting the transport operators and a few of their anxieties will be addressed soon,” the commissioner said.

Also speaking, Abia State Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukaegbu, dismissed the claims that the state government was taking over the jobs of transport unions and their members, saying that an organised system of transportation was introduced to replace touting and congestion.

Speaking on security, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, disclosed that Abia State is experiencing an influx of unregulated tricycle operators from neighbouring states.

Ekeoma, who said that the influx of the tricycle operators could pose a security threat to the state, noted that the state government was tightening its security architecture to ensure that their operations are closely monitored.
