NUPRC, NRS Deepen Collaboration To Boost Revenue Collection

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) have deepened their collaboration to promote transparency and accountability in the collection of oil and gas revenue.

This was the resolution after a meeting between the Commission Chief Executive (CCE) of NUPRC, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and the Chairman of the NRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, at the NRS headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

In her remarks, Eyesan commended the NRS chairman for driving reforms that culminated in the enactment of the NRS Act.

Speaking on the transfer of revenue collection responsibilities, Eyesan said the process had been seamless.

The CCE also highlighted the Commission’s efforts to creating an enabling environment for operators in the oil and gas industry.

“We are here to enable them, enable their businesses, ensure that they survive, they succeed. And we want to grow the pie because when you grow the pie, everybody benefits,” she said.
She further revealed that Nigeria had the potential to produce 1.9 million barrels per day having hit a peak production of 1.86mbpd in May.

“We are back to production. We are ramping up now, and we want to continue working.

“We still recognise the constraints. Infrastructure and asset integrity are major constraints, but we will work on these. Even the human capacity in the industry, we see that because if we want to grow, we must also grow that capacity to meet the demands,” Eyesan said.

The CCE also disclosed that one of the key targets upon assuming office was the digitisation of NUPRC’s operations, a goal she said has largely been achieved.
In his response, the NRS chairman praised the Commission for its dynamism, professionalism and transparency.

He pledged continued collaboration with the Commission, particularly on matters relating to the transfer of revenue collection functions under the new Act.

Adedeji said, “It is in the interest of Nigeria that we work together to grow revenue for the country in a transparent manner for the good of Nigerians. So, there is no way we would do something to jeopardise the progress or sustainability of another agency.

“I collect revenue. I don’t generate revenue. Wherever revenue is, I work on it and keep an account for you. So, I’m helping you to collect your royalties.”

He promised that the NRS would continue to support the Commission in order to achieve their shared objective of increasing government revenues in a fair, transparent and sustainable manner.

NWFL: Naija Ratels defend record on players’ welfare amid salary arrears reports

Naija Ratels FC have defended their handling of player’s welfare and salary obligations.

The Abuja-based club has kept coaches and players informed, while making payments as funds become available during a financially challenging 2025/26 season.

The club issued the statement signed by the President Abdul Sule in response to online publications about unpaid salaries.

Sule said the reports were clearly aimed at damaging the reputation of the club, and emphasized that a single story told without context was not fair to what the team has built since 2019.

He stated that the 2025-26 NWFL season stretched the club after it had to rebuild its squad almost entirely from the scratch.

They added that all players contracts remain valid, and binding, and management remains committed to honoring every contractual commitment.

Naija Ratels finished bottom of the NWFL Group A with five points.

Communities in Kano, Bauchi, Jigawa call for protection of telecom infrastructure

Community representatives from Kano, Bauchi and Jigawa states have called for greater involvement of local communities in the protection of telecommunications infrastructure to address recurring cases of vandalism and poor network services.

The call was made at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) in Dutse on Monday.

Participants at the meeting were drawn from Rano in Kano State; Itas and Jama’are in Bauchi State; and Madobi, Kudai and Kiyawa communities in Jigawa State.

Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Director of CITAD, Malam Y.Z. Yau, said the protection of telecommunications infrastructure should be linked to the protection and development of host communities.

According to him, telecommunications companies should engage communities before deploying infrastructure to ensure that residents understand the purpose and benefits of such facilities.

“Communities need to understand why these facilities are being deployed and the benefits they stand to gain. This kind of engagement is still limited in many parts of the country,” he said.

Ya’u said online complaint mechanisms could help address threats to telecommunications facilities and reduce incidents of vandalism, which often affect network connectivity.

He said findings from research showed that telecommunications infrastructure faced challenges such as fibre cuts, partly because some communities were not adequately sensitised or involved in deployment processes.

“Service providers alone cannot provide complete protection for these facilities. Community participation is necessary if we are to reduce the number of underserved and unserved areas,” he said.

During discussions on community mobilisation for infrastructure protection, participants recommended awareness campaigns targeting youths, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders.

They also called for stronger collaboration between communities and telecommunications companies, the establishment of reporting channels for damage and suspicious activities, and the involvement of local security structures, including vigilante groups and hunters.

Some participants urged telecommunications companies to undertake community development projects in host communities and create employment opportunities for residents.
