CJF condemns abduction of Sapele Council Chairman, Abeke

A group under the auspices of Concerned Journalists Forum (CJF), Nigeria, on Sunday, condemned in strong terms the recent abduction of the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke by gunmen, on Friday.

This is contained in a statement by CJF National Chairman, Comrade Emeka Nwokocha and the Secretary, Comrade Celestine Ukah.

They said the kidnappers had a field day while their operation lasted.

CJF expressed worry about worsening crime rate in Delta State, describing it as a scary development.

CJF also noted with dismay that the safety of Deltans were “oftentimes discussed and assured on symposiums and speech-making sessions, but not much action is practically put in place to protect lives and property of Deltans as guaranteed by Section 14(2b) of the 1999 constitution, as amended”.

It reiterated its concern about the erosion of public trust for government institutions whose responsibility is to protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

It called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to demand better commitment from the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi to rid the state of criminal elements whose murderous activities had gotten worse across the state in recent months.

Police Arrest Suspect Who Robbed Job Seekers In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged robbery incident in which job seekers were lured to a fake interview in the Magodo area of the state and dispossessed of their valuables.

The arrest follows a viral video last week that raised concern on social media over the rising threat of sophisticated scams targeting desperate applicants.

In the video shared by X user @General_Somto on April 10, applicants could be seen scattered, with a few putting their hands on their heads.

One of the victims could be heard recounting the experience, warning others to be cautious of fraudulent job offers.

“Nigerians, let’s be careful out there… Not all job offers are legit. We went for a job interview in Magodo, Lagos only to be robbed. They took our phones, money, and everything we had on us,” she said.

According to details shared in the comments section of the video, the setup appeared professional and trustworthy at first.

The interview was held in an organised environment, and nothing initially raised suspicion.

However, victims claimed they were asked to step out briefly, only to return and discover that their personal belongings—including mobile phones, cash, and other valuables—had been taken.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued via its X handle on Sunday, saying the matter is under investigation.

“The Command confirms that the incident captured in the viral video is under investigation. The case was reported at about 11:00 p.m. on 09/04/2026.

“One suspect is currently in Police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects and bring all those involved to justice.”

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of job offers before attending interviews, especially those advertised online.

It advised job seekers to confirm company details through official channels, avoid isolated or unverified venues, and inform trusted contacts before attending interviews.

Revealed: How Notorious Cult Leader " Yinka Agali " Was Assassinated In Lagos

A suspected leader of the Buccaneers cult group in Surulere, Lagos, Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as Yinka Agali, has been shot dead.

Agali was killed on Saturday night, April 11, 2026, in the Iponri area of Surulere. He was regarded as a prominent and influential figure within the group in the area.

Reports indicated that he was shot while driving in the Iponri axis. Some accounts linked the incident to rivalry between cult groups, while others suggested possible political undertones ahead of local elections.

Videos circulating on social media indicated that the deceased had political links with the All Progressives Congress.

Responding to enquiries, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that a gunshot was reported around 11:30 p.m. on April 11 near the National Stadium Bridge towards Iponri. A patrol team from Surulere Division moved to the scene and found the victim inside an unregistered white Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 with gunshot wounds.

Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the victim was rushed to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead and his body deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

She added that the assailants abandoned an unregistered black Ford Edge and fled in another vehicle. Both vehicles have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects.

Adebisi also said the family of the deceased has retrieved the body and indicated that it is not pursuing a case.

Olubadan Alleged Dethronement Plan : Oba Ladoja ,Gov Makinde Deny Fayose’s Claim

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday disagreed with the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, over a reported plot to dethrone Ladoja.

In their separate reactions in Ibadan, the state capital, Makinde and Ladoja, through their media aides, described the reported plot to dethrone the Olubadan as unfounded and baseless rumour.

Fayose had, on his X handle, written that Makinde was plotting to remove Ladoja as Olubadan of Ibadanland.

He wrote: “I heard reliably that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland,  Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja.

“The plot is to commence this week, with a government query to be issued against the Olubadan, citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland two weeks ago, and other allegations.”

The media aide to Oba Ladoja, Adeola Oloko, in an interview, described the statement credited to Fayose as unfounded.

He affirmed that there was no rift between Makinde and Olubadan to warrant such moves.

“It will be most unfortunate if it is not a rumour. Though I read it just the way you read it online. I don’t see the cause of friction between the governor and Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said.

Also, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, submitted that the government had never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“By now, Nigerians know who and what to believe, especially when the information comes from a particular quarter.

“Oyo State Government has never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“There has to be a credible motive for every government action, and this, coming from the unofficial spokesman of our opponents, is better put in the refuse dump where it belongs.

“Desperate politics foists thoughtless propaganda and reduces democracy into a joke,” he said.
