ADC Will Send Tinubu Out Of Aso Rock, Melaye Boasts

Former Kogi lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has declared that anyone contesting under a coalition platform including himself can defeat President Bola Tinubu in a free and fair election.

Melaye made the assertion during an interview on Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye and uploaded on Sunday, where he delivered a sweeping criticism of the current administration.

“My brother, anybody among those interested in presidency in African Democratic Congress would do one million times better than Tinubu. They can never be a worse president than Tinubu,” he said.

Projecting confidence in his own electoral strength, Melaye stated that he could personally unseat the President if the process is credible.

“Me, Dino Melaye. Let’s go on a free and fair election,” he said, adding, “I will beat him flat in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Despite his bold claim, the former senator clarified that his immediate focus is not necessarily personal ambition but the collective objective of removing the current administration from power.

“My own for now is that we must send Tinubu away. Whoever emerges from consensus or from a primary, I will support,” he said.

Melaye also alleged that the President may be reluctant to allow a transparent electoral process.

“Let him allow a free and fair contest. And if he doesn’t allow it, we will make him conduct our election. Because he doesn’t want election. He wants to be Kabiyesi. He wants to be Igwe,” he added.

On coalition dynamics, he dismissed speculations about joint tickets, insisting that the overriding concern is national interest.

“I am not interested in any joint ticket or non-joint ticket… we are only interested in rescuing this country,” he said.

The former lawmaker further raised concerns about governance, pointing to what he described as the influence of non-elected individuals, particularly the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu.

“My son will not interfere with governance. My son will not summon DGs of parastatals and agencies of government and ministers,” he said.

He also referenced public commentary by Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka while criticising the visibility of Seyi Tinubu in political activities.

“Even our respected Wole Soyinka complained about him. You have seen the City Boy Movement and what they are doing,” he said, questioning the role of non-elected actors in governance.

Melaye maintained that opposition figures are already aligning strategies ahead of future elections, stressing that unity remains central to their goal of unseating the current administration.

2027: Enugu Senatorial District Gifts Mbah ₦100m To Buy Nomination Form

Enugu West Senatorial District of Enugu State, weekend, donated N100m to Gov Peter Mbah for the purchase of his nomination form for his second tenure.

THE WHISTLER reports that the zone is made of up Awgu, Oji River, Ezeagu, Udi and Aninri local government areas. The donation was made at a rally to drum support for Mbah and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Senator Osita Ngwu, said the decision was based on performance. He listed Mbah’s legacy initiatives to include the Command and Control Centre to help improve security across the state, as well as Smart Schools and Type-2 Healthcare Centres in all the political wards in the state.

He also commended Gov Mbah’s road infrastructure in the zone. “Before, if you were going to Aguobu Owa through 9th Mile, it would seem like a journey of no return. But now, it takes you only a few minutes. It is the handiwork of Gov Mbah. These are not promises; these are realities; these are dividends of democracy.”

He also commended President Tinubu for embarking on major projects in South East and Enugu State in particular.

Former Chief of Naval Staff and former Military Governor of old Anambra State, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd), also backed the endorsement of Mbah and Tinubu by the zone.

Madueke said, “The testimonies today are accurate. The people have spoken. All we want to do is to ask Mbah to go back and do more.”

Also speaking, former Senator President Ken Nnamani urged electorate in the state to vote Mbah to continue with his developmental initiatives in the state. He said electing another person as governor aside Mbah would disrupt the guber zoning chemistry of the state.

In his words, “Any other candidate apart from Mbah does not guarantee Enugu West’s turn by 2031. Besides, currently on the stage, we have someone with integrity and performance. Even among his colleague governors, he is highly rated. And he is ready to continue to perform.”

Mbah described the rally as overwhelming. “This rally is of epic proportions. You have also become standard bearers for equity, justice, fairness, and unity. You are also showing that you are not lightheaded; that you are strategic.”

Mbah urged them to cast their votes for Tinubu to sustain his economic reforms and national development agenda.

Quoting him, “By this endorsement, you recognise the positive results of Mr President in the stabilisation of our macro indicators, making sure that our foreign exchange is stabilised; that our inflation rate is trending downwards; that our foreign reserves are growing above the $50 billion mark, and that the states now have enough money to execute massive projects. The local governments in Enugu State are also executing numerous projects that I am being invited almost on a weekly basis to come and commission.”

He assured the people that he would continue to justify their confidence in his administration and pledged that President Tinubu would also not disappoint them.

The motion for Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by the House of Representatives member for Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency, Hon Sunday Umeha, and seconded by the Executive Director (Projects), South East Development Commission, Hon Toby Okechukwu.

Similarly, the motion for Mbah’s endorsement was moved by the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Uchenna Ugwu, and seconded by the lawmaker representing Aninri State Constituency, Hon Magnus Ede.

Goldberg Launches ‘Back to Bar’, Giving 10 Fans chance to watch the Super Eagles Live in the UK, Lisbon

Goldberg Lager Beer has unveiled Back to Bar, a new consumer campaign built around how Nigerians already experience football: in bars, with friends, and in real time.

The campaign was introduced at a press briefing held at the Lagos Brewery Bar on Friday, April 17, where media, football enthusiasts, and respected voices in the game gathered for its official launch. Former Super Eagles players, including Friday Elahor, Victor Agali, Ifeanyi Udeze, Jonathan Akpobore, Precious Dede, and Ebi Onome, were in attendance, reinforcing the brand’s long-standing connection to football culture in Nigeria.

At its core, Back to Bar is designed to be straightforward. Consumers who purchase two bottles of Goldberg at participating bars receive instant airtime rewards and qualify for weekly raffle draws. Over the course of the campaign, ten winners will earn all-expense-paid trips to the United Kingdom or Lisbon to watch the Super Eagles live.

The structure reflects a deliberate choice: keep the mechanics simple, the rewards immediate, and the process transparent. For a category where trust and participation are closely linked, the campaign leans into visibility, making it easy for consumers to understand how it works and what they stand to gain.

Speaking at the launch, Senior Brand Manager, Goldberg, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Kunle Aroyehun, said the campaign was shaped by current consumer realities.

“We understand what it means to go to a bar right now. People are more intentional with how they spend, but they still want to enjoy football and the moments that come with it.

Back to Bar is our way of meeting that reality. If someone is already making that choice at a participating bar, then it should feel worthwhile from the first two bottles. There is instant value, and beyond that, a real opportunity to experience football at a completely different level.

What matters to us is that people can see how it works and trust it.”

Also speaking, Head of Marketing Communications, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Sandra Amachree, noted that the campaign is rooted in how football is experienced locally.

“Football in Nigeria is not something people experience occasionally; it is part of everyday life. And for many fans, that experience is shaped in bars.

What we are doing with Back to Bar is recognising that space for what it truly is, not just a place to watch the game, but where fan culture is formed and shared. Our role is to support that culture in a way that feels natural. When you get that right, the brand is no longer separate from the experience; it becomes part of it.”

The campaign has now rolled out across participating bars nationwide, with weekly draws and real-time winner announcements designed to keep participation visible and easy to follow.

  • Court reinstates Abiya as Kano NNPP chairman

Court reinstates Abiya as Kano NNPP chairman

A High Court in Kano has reaffirmed Abdullahi Abiya as the authentic chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state, nullifying the earlier dissolution of the party’s leadership.

The court ruled that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) acted beyond its constitutional powers when it dissolved the state, local government, and ward executives without involving the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Abiya had taken the NWC to court before Justice Nasiru Saminu, challenging the decision and accusing the party leadership of denying him and others a fair hearing.

He also asked the court to stop Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa from parading himself as a parallel chairman in Kano.

In his judgment, Justice Saminu set aside the dissolution and issued a perpetual injunction preventing the party and its agents from interfering with the tenure of the duly elected executives at all levels in Kano State.

The court also upheld the expulsion of Dungurawa from the NNPP, ruling that the action taken by his ward and ratified by higher party structures followed due process and complied with the party’s constitution.

In a specific order, the court restrained Dungurawa, “whether by himself, his agents, privies, servants or any person acting through or under him, from further parading himself as the Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) or performing any functions attached to that office”.

Abiya had urged the court to declare “that the purported dissolution of the duly elected Kano State, Local Government and Ward Executive Committees of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) by the Defendant, acting through its National Working Committee, is ultra vires, unconstitutional, null and void, same having been carried out outside the powers conferred by Article 10.3 of the Constitution of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).”

He also argued that “the Defendant’s reliance on Article 10.3(e) of its Constitution to effect a blanket dissolution extending to Local Government and Ward Executive Committees, and without the involvement of the National Executive Committee (NEC), constitutes an abuse of discretionary power, and is therefore unlawful, ultra vires and void ab initio.”

On fair hearing, Abiya maintained that “the dissolution of the duly elected Kano State, Local Government and Ward Executive Committees of the Defendant without notice, hearing, or opportunity to be heard violates the Plaintiffs’ right to fair hearing guaranteed under section 36(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) is unconstitutional, unlawful, null and void.”

He further sought “a declaration that any action taken by the Defendant, its organs, agents, committees or privies pursuant to or founded upon the said purported dissolution is illegal, ineffective and of no legal consequence whatsoever.”

The court granted all the reliefs sought by Abiya and awarded N500,000 in costs against Dungurawa and the NNPP National Working Committee.
