2027: Peter Obi working for Tinubu – Adeyanju alleges

As the race for the 2027 presidency heats up, activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, new entrant, Peter Obi is working for President Bola Tinubu.

Adeyanju made the remark while accusing opposition leaders in Nigeria as the most useless and irresponsible in Africa.

Posting on X, Adeyanju lamented that it’s a shame for Nigeria to have a divided opposition despite the events that happened in the country in the last three years.

He wrote: “Peter Obi is working for Tinubu. The opposition leaders in Nigeria are the most useless in Africa. They are too irresponsible. For Nigeria to still have a divided opposition in 2026 after what happened to this country in the last 3 years is a huge shame.

“These guys are sworn enemies of Nigeria. Tinubu is not even playing at all. Can you imagine.”

This comes as Obi, who recently joined the ADC defected to the NDC alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.

During the last presidential election, Obi contested under the LP, while Tinubu ran on the platform of the APC.

Everton Fan Arrested For Alleged Semenyo Racist Abuse

Merseyside Police arrested an Everton fan during his side’s match against Manchester City for alleged racist abuse towards Antoine Semenyo.

The supporter was apprehended at the Premier League fixture between the sides at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, which finished 3-3.

Police said a 71-year-old man from Nottinghamshire was arrested “on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence” after “supporters and stewards reported that racist abuse was shouted by a fan”.

“An investigation into the incident during the match remains ongoing and we continue to work closely with Everton FC,” said a police statement.

“He has now been bailed with conditions, which includes not to go within one mile of any designated sports stadium in a period of up to four hours before kick-off, during the match and up to four hours after the game has ended.”

Everton said in a statement that “behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated”.

“Racism and discrimination in all forms are completely unacceptable. They have no place in our stadia, our sport or in society,” the club said.

“The club will continue to work closely with the authorities to support their investigation and will take the strongest possible action in line with its zero-tolerance approach.”

It is the second time Ghana international Semenyo, 26, has been the target of racist abuse this season.

While playing for former club Bournemouth in the opening Premier League match of this season, Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during their 4-2 defeat at Liverpool.

Semenyo subsequently said more should be done to tackle racism in football, including possible prison sentences for those convicted of abuse.

Manchester City praised the “swift action” of Everton and Merseyside Police.

The club said England defender Marc Guehi, 25, also suffered online racist abuse following the match.

“We are incredibly disappointed to hear that Marc Guehi was subject to a series of vile racist social media posts last night,” said a City statement.

“We will continue to offer our full support to both Antoine and Marc and never accept discrimination of any kind in our game.”

  • UAE hit by drone, missile attacks as global leaders condemn escalation

UAE hit by drone, missile attacks as global leaders condemn escalation

The United Arab Emirates, UAE, has come under a large-scale drone and missile attack attributed to Iran, with strikes hitting critical infrastructure and prompting widespread international condemnation amid rising fears of regional conflict.

Authorities in the UAE said multiple drones and projectiles targeted strategic installations on Tuesday, including a major port facility where explosions triggered fires and disrupted operations.

Although air defence systems intercepted several incoming threats, some projectiles reportedly struck their targets, damaging infrastructure and injuring civilians, including foreign nationals.

The incident has intensified tensions across the Gulf, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments, raising concerns about the safety of maritime traffic and energy supplies.

Global leaders reacted swiftly to the development, condemning the attack and expressing support for the UAE.

Joseph Aoun declared “full solidarity” with Abu Dhabi, describing the strikes as “an assault on humanitarian values and international law.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, called for restraint, emphasising the importance of maintaining the ceasefire to allow diplomatic efforts to continue.

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, condemned the attack as “unacceptable,” particularly following reports that Indian nationals were among those injured, while urging the need for safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

From Europe, António Costa urged Tehran to return to negotiations, warning that sustaining the ceasefire and reopening maritime routes are essential for regional stability.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, described the strikes as “unprovoked,” commending the UAE’s defensive response and calling for de-escalation.

The UAE government characterised the attack as a serious escalation and indicated that it reserves the right to respond, even as diplomatic pressure mounts on Iran to halt further hostilities.

Security analysts have warned that the coordinated strikes represent a significant escalation, increasing the risk of direct confrontation among regional powers and posing potential threats to global energy markets.

  • Foden Reaches Agreement Over New Man City Deal

Foden Reaches Agreement Over New Man City Deal

Phil Foden has reached an agreement in principle over a new four-year deal at Manchester City.

The 25-year-old’s current contract was due to expire next summer but fresh terms will keep him at Etihad Stadium until 2030, with the option of another year.

Though midfielder Foden has struggled for form in recent months and has not scored since 14 December, a new contract signals a commitment from both parties to continue working together.

Foden came on as a substitute in Monday’s thrilling 3-3 draw at Everton, which leaves City five points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.

The midfielder will be hoping to secure a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Last month, boss Tuchel said Foden’s place in the squad is not guaranteed despite being the only player to start both games in England’s final camp before the tournament.

Foden was given his first-team debut as a 17-year-old by boss Pep Guardiola and has gone on to make 365 appearances for City, winning six Premier League titles, one Champions League and two FA Cups.

Despite his recent form, former Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney says Foden has to “play every game” for City.

“I think you have to put him in the team,” he said on the BBC’s Wayne Rooney Show. “I love watching him play, I love his little movements, how he gets into the pockets of space. It’s not nice watching him sitting on the bench.

“I think he was doing well [this season]. He’s had bad moments, but when you have a bad moment and you’re taken out and put on the sidelines for weeks on end, I just think a player of that quality, you have to just keep playing him.

“You’ve got [Jeremy] Doku there who can do anything. You’ve got [Antoine] Semenyo, who can go outside, come inside.

“It’s real power, pace and raw speed going up against you, so I don’t know whether that’s a reason why Foden’s not playing. Pep may want a little bit more help defensively.”
