Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos, has completed the process to buy Sevilla and become the club’s new owner.

This was disclosed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in a post on X on Tuesday.

According to Romano, the deal is in place with Ramos’ brother, René, leading the process.

Ramos is now waiting for official and formal steps with lawyers before he will release a statement.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender played for Sevilla in the past.

The 40-year-old is a legend in football, having won several Champions League and LaLiga titles and a World Cup.

Indications have emerged that key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State have backed Dr. Debo Akande for the party’s governorship ticket in the 2027 general elections.

There were earlier reports that two other governorship aspirants, Bimbo Adekanmbi and Shared Akinade Fijabi, got the backing of party leaders and other stakeholders during a high-level consultative meeting in Ibadan.

However, sources familiar with the closed-door meeting dismissed reports that Adekanmbi and Fijabi were the two aspirants considered during the deliberations, describing such narratives as misleading and inconsistent with what transpired at the parley.

“The story that Fijabi and Adekanmbi were the final two is a fabrication. It was designed to launder a decision made outside the room,” a party source said on Tuesday.

According to insiders, Akande consistently ranked ahead of other aspirants throughout the consultation process.

In the initial inner caucus session, he reportedly secured three votes on the first day before increasing his tally to four votes on the second day. When the consultation was expanded to include 21 stakeholders, Akande was said to have received 20 votes, reflecting what sources described as near-unanimous support among influential party leaders.

Participants at the meeting reportedly cited Akande’s competence, loyalty to the party, and political experience as major factors behind the endorsement.

A former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Monsurat Sunmonu, reportedly, openly backed Akande’s candidacy during the deliberations.

“The only person who has contributed and sacrificed so much for this government is Dr. Debo Akande,” the ex-Speaker was quoted to have said.

It was learnt that she maintained her position throughout the discussions, resisting moves to push the candidacy of Adekanmbi ahead of Akande.

However, a source at the meeting alleged that despite Akande’s overwhelming support, there are indications that some influential political interests are attempting to override the consensus reached by the stakeholders in favour of another aspirant.

Ahead of the primaries, Akande’s supporters argue that he remains the most credible and electable option for the PDP in the Oyo State governorship election. They cited his contributions to governance, longstanding loyalty to the party, and acceptance across grassroots and political structures in the state.

2027: Stakeholders back Akande as Oyo PDP consensus guber candidate

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a seventh term, extending his rule into a fifth decade at a ceremony held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

The 81 year old leader took the oath of office before thousands of supporters at an event marked by a military parade and an aerial display of Russian made Sukhoi fighter jets. The parade was overseen by his son and army chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Museveni, who first came to power in 1986 after a guerrilla war, now remains one of Africa’s longest serving leaders. While this term is widely seen as a possible final chapter, political uncertainty remains over how a future transition will unfold.

Attention is increasingly shifting to Kainerugaba, 52, who has openly expressed interest in succeeding his father and described his political ambition as “unstoppable.” Analysts say he is steadily emerging as a central figure within Uganda’s security and political structure.

Parliamentary Speaker Anita Among has also drawn attention after assuring supporters that lawmakers would do “whatever it takes” in support of Kainerugaba, a statement that has fueled further succession speculation.

Museveni’s rule, once credited with restoring stability after years of conflict, has in recent years faced increasing criticism over democratic backsliding, including the detention of opposition figures and tightening political restrictions.

A recently introduced bill targeting what authorities describe as “foreign interference” has raised concern among rights groups and opposition parties, who argue it could restrict civil society operations and political expression. The National Unity Platform, led by opposition figure Bobi Wine, has condemned the legislation as “unconstitutional, irrelevant and brought in bad faith.”

Bobi Wine has also rejected the results of the January election, which returned Museveni to power with about 71.65 percent of the vote.
