Nigerian Father Of Two Dies In UK

A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Kayode Ogunbodede, popularly known as Kay, has died after reportedly passing away in his sleep in Swansea, Wales.

It was gathered on Wednesday from a GoFundMe appeal by Olatunde Owoeye-Phoster that Ogunbodede died in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving behind his wife, who is said to be a student, and two daughters aged six years and six months.

Owoeye-Phoster described Ogunbodede’s death as sudden and devastating for the family.

According to the statement, Ogunbodede was widely known within the Nigerian and African communities in the UK and was an active member of both the Elim City Church in Swansea and the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The statement described the deceased as peaceful, calm and supportive, adding that he was always willing to assist others.

The appeal read, “Our lives changed in ways we cannot imagine when our brother, husband and father, Kayode Ogunbodede, popularly called Kay, passed away suddenly in his sleep in the morning of Tuesday, 26th May, 2026, in Swansea, UK.

“Kay was peaceful, calm, helpful, full of smiles and always willing to lend a hand wherever he could. He was full of life and supported his family.”

Owoeye-Phoster noted that the fundraising appeal launched after his death was necessary to help support the bereaved family with funeral expenses, childcare, bills and sustaining the education of his wife and children.

“Kay has left behind a wife, who is still a student and not working, a six-year-old daughter and a six-month-old daughter. This is a very tough place to be for his wife, who is a relatively new mum.

“Everybody who has heard of this sad incident is willing to help, and this serves as a platform to organise support for one of our own. Please let us support the family he has left behind in whatever ways we can,” the statement added.

At the time of filing this report, a sum of £480 had been raised out of the £18,000 target.

Ogunbodede’s death adds to the growing number of cases involving Nigerians who died in the UK in recent months, with relatives and community groups turning to public fundraising to support bereaved families.

In April,  another UK-based Nigerian father of three, identified simply as Herbert, died in his sleep in Thornaby, while his family appealed for support to cover funeral and repatriation costs.

Similarly, a Nigerian identified as Ademola Oke was found unresponsive at his workplace in the UK in April, while relatives launched a fundraising campaign to support his wife and children.

Only Successful Aspirants Will Pay For Nomination Forms In NDC..Seriake Dickson

National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson has said only aspirants who win the party’s primaries will proceed to pay nomination fees and complete documentation exercise.

In a statement shared on X yesterday  Dickson said the decision was arrived at a joint meeting attended by Cleopas Moses, NDC national chairman, Peter Obi, the party’s presidential aspirant, and members of the national working committee (NWC) and selection committee.

“Following a briefing at the joint meeting of the Selection Committee and the Screening Committee, and in view of the constraints of time, it was decided that all those who purchased Expression of Interest Forms would be allowed to participate in the primaries in their various constituencies,” the statement reads.

“Only successful candidates will report to the party secretariat for documentation and, in the process, pay for nomination forms and complete other necessary forms.

“The teams for the primaries have been selected, comprising senior officials of the party, and have been deployed to every state to conduct the exercise with the support of stakeholders and local leaders. We wish them success in this important assignment.”

While noting that the party is women- and youth-friendly, Dickson urged the teams for the primaries to pay attention to aspirants with the capacity to win elections.

“They should liaise with stakeholders and remain open and fair in protecting the interests of all aspirants because, at the end of the day, we are a platform for everyone,” he added.

Dickson added that the primaries would hold on May 28 and 29, noting that aspirants should use their expression of interest forms to enable them to participate in the exercise.

He also announced the inauguration of an appeal panel to address complaints arising from the primaries.

He said direct primaries for state assembly positions would take place at constituency level, while House of Representatives, senate, governorship, and presidential affirmations would be held at local government headquarters.

The lawmaker representing Bayelsa west urged aspirants and their supporters to avoid violence, warning that the party has zero tolerance for intimidation, threats, and disorderly conduct.

The NDC national leader also acknowledged that the party’s planned electronic primary system could not be fully implemented because of limited time, noting that future primaries would be conducted electronically.

“As I said at the dinner with aspirants, this will be the last primary election in the NDC to be conducted manually,” he added.

  • Gov Otti Names Bus Terminal After UNI VC That Declared His Election Victory In 2023

Gov Otti Names Bus Terminal After UNI VC That Declared His Election Victory In 2023

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Wednesday inaugurated the newly completed Umuahia Central Bus Terminal, a multimodal transport facility in the state capital.

The governor also renamed the terminal after Prof. Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, the first female Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, in recognition of her role as INEC returning officer in the 2023 governorship election.

Otti said the decision was informed by her “courage, integrity and commitment to truth” during the election that brought his administration into office.

“This terminal has been named after Professor Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, the courageous INEC returning officer who demonstrated unflinching integrity in the discharge of her duties during a high-stakes election assignment here in Abia,” Otti said.

He added that the honour was not limited to her alone but symbolised all individuals who resisted electoral manipulation.

“In 2023, through her courageous disposition of standing firmly by the truth… she reminded us that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary results by simply saying no,” the governor said.

Otti noted that the recognition also extended to electoral officials, security agencies and citizens who upheld the integrity of the process.

“So she’s just a representative of all of you—INEC staff who never bent, party officials who didn’t give in, security agencies… people who said no to intimidation,” he added.

The governor, in his speech titled “Raising The Bar”, said the project reflects his administration’s broader urban transport reforms.

He said the state had moved beyond basic infrastructure delivery to building an integrated transport system.

“The days of playing small is over. We shall no longer confine ourselves to the margins,” Otti said.

He explained that the terminal was designed to accommodate over 340 buses and would improve accessibility, safety and efficiency in urban transport operations.

Otti also disclosed that the transport system would be supported by electric bus services, with 20 already in operation, while additional units are expected in phases.

“Services will keep improving as more buses are delivered… and you can tell with accuracy when a particular bus will arrive and depart,” he said.

He urged residents to protect the facility and support government efforts by maintaining order and paying taxes.

The governor warned against vandalism, waste disposal violations and other practices that could undermine the project, stressing that offenders would face sanctions.

Earlier, Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukegbu, described the terminal as a key milestone in the state’s transport reform agenda, saying it would reduce congestion and improve safety while boosting economic activity.

Prof. Nnenna Oti, in her remarks, said she only acted according to her conscience during the 2023 election.

“I simply did what I’ve done all my life—to do the right thing… the mandate of the people must stand,” she said.

The event also featured a minute of silence in honour of the late former Commissioner for Transport, Sonny Onwuma.
