30-year-old event decorator reportedly killed in Edo

A 30-year-old event decorator identified as Ms. Esohe Aigbe has reportedly been killed in Benin City by an unknown assailant.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred on Ojo Street in the Ogida area of Egor Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the deceased had gone to the area to help her friend decorate a funeral venue free of charge when she was attacked.

According to relatives who spoke to newsmen, the decorator had just finished her job and was still within the vicinity when she was attacked by persons yet to be identified.

They explained that the attackers inflicted severe injuries on her and left her in a pool of blood.

The relatives added that she was immediately rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for medical attention, but the efforts of medical personnel could not save her life.

They described the deceased, whose remains have since been deposited in a morgue, as a breadwinner whose life was cut short in the line of duty.

“Esohe was quiet, focused, and committed to her work as a decorator. She was well known in the area for taking jobs around funeral and event venues.

“She had built a strong reputation in the community for her exceptional work decorating funeral and event venues,” they said.

They, however, called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible are found and prosecuted.

They also appealed to anyone with information about the attack to report it to the police and assist security agencies in their investigation.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who confirmed the incident, said a suspect had been arrested.

  • Fonseca Stuns Djokovic In Third-Round Roland Garros Epic

Fonseca Stuns Djokovic In Third-Round Roland Garros Epic

Teenage sensation Joao Fonseca delivered one of the biggest shocks of the French Open, fighting back from two sets down to defeat Novak Djokovic in a thrilling third-round encounter at Roland Garros.

Djokovic, still chasing a record 25th Grand Slam singles title, appeared firmly in control after taking the opening two sets.

With world number one Jannik Sinner already eliminated and Carlos Alcaraz absent through injury, the Serbian great looked well positioned for another deep run in Paris.

However, the 19-year-old Brazilian gradually turned the tide with fearless shot-making and remarkable composure under pressure.

Fonseca claimed the next two sets to force a decider before completing a dramatic 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5 victory after four hours and 53 minutes of intense action.

The Paris crowd erupted as Fonseca recovered from 3-1 down in the fifth set to seal the biggest win of his career. He also became the first teenager ever to defeat Djokovic at a Grand Slam tournament.

The defeat marks only the third time in 22 appearances that Djokovic has failed to reach the second week at Roland Garros, raising fresh questions about whether another opportunity to secure a historic 25th major title may have slipped away.

Fonseca advances to the fourth round, where he will face either two-time finalist Casper Ruud or American 24th seed Tommy Paul.

The Brazilian is one of two 19-year-olds making waves in Paris, alongside Rafael Jodar, who has emerged as a serious contender after winning 18 of his 21 clay-court matches in 2026.

  • How we dislodged bandits, robbers from Abia forests, communities – Otti

How we dislodged bandits, robbers from Abia forests, communities – Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has revealed that kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal gangs were in control of several communities in the state when he took over leadership, before his administration dislodged them.

Otti, who was delivering his third anniversary speech at Umuahia Township Stadium on Friday, said that the bandits had set up camps inside forests from where they terrorized innocent villagers, forcing natives to panic or flee.

He announced that the state government had been able to recover the communities from the bandits and reassert control of the areas through effective collaboration with security agencies.

“Security was a major challenge in the state three years ago. Several communities were held hostage as kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal groups set up camps in the forests from where they launched sporadic attacks on innocent Abians,” he said.

Governor Otti, who praised the heads of security agencies and traditional rulers for their roles in the restoration of security and order in communities, urged Abia citizens to always supply security agencies with information that would sustain the onslaught against criminals.

Otti also said that 2,997 truckloads of refuse were evacuated from the streets of the state a few weeks after he took over power in 2023, thereby saving residents from environmental pollution and its associated health hazards.

On the condition of Abia workers under his administration, the governor said that civil servants and pensioners no longer beg on the streets for their monthly salaries and pensions, as was the case in the past.

While thanking the citizens of the state for their support, Governor Otti promised that state funds and other resources would never be wasted on frivolities.
