Anambra Govt Fixes N50m, N20m Permit Fees For Campaigns

The Anambra State Government, through the State Signage and Advertisement Agency, has unveiled permit fees for political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A presidential candidate will pay N50m, while senatorial candidate is charged N20m for outdoor campaign activities.

The Assistant General Manager of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Chika Ngobili, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing at the agency’s headquarters in Awka.

Ngobili said the briefing was necessary to inform political parties and candidates on out-of-home promotions and visual campaign guidelines ahead of the elections.

Under the arrangement, House of Representatives candidates will pay N5m, House of Assembly candidates N1.5m, local government chairmanship candidates N2.5m, while councillorship candidates will pay N100,000 before being allowed to campaign in the state.

He said the permits cover campaign materials and activities including posters, public address systems, branded vehicles, banners, fliers, buntings, T-shirts, caps, street storms, campaign booths, rallies and other promotional materials within approved locations.

“The guidelines were issued in line with the regulatory framework governing political campaign activities in Anambra State and ahead of the official lifting of the ban on campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The agency is formally informing political parties, candidates, advertising practitioners, media organisations, and the general public about the Out-of-Home Promotions and Visual Campaign Guidelines for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State,” he said.

Ngobili said ANSAA is empowered to issue permits and licences for signage and advertisement deployment, ensure environmental aesthetics, protect public infrastructure and collect revenues for the state government.

He explained that the permit system was introduced to ensure orderliness, prevent visual pollution, protect public infrastructure, maintain professional standards, guarantee fairness and ensure proper coordination of campaign activities.

According to him, all campaign materials for outdoor display by political parties, candidates, support groups, advertising agencies and practitioners must be vetted and approved by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria before deployment.

The agency also warned political actors against destroying or defacing opponents’ campaign materials.

“We hereby formally notify all political parties and candidates participating in the 2027 general elections in Anambra State of the mandatory requirement to obtain campaign permits from ANSAA before commencing campaign activities involving out-of-home visual promotions, rallies, branded materials, public address systems and other outdoor promotional activities.

“We appeal to all political parties, candidates, their supporters, and members of the public to be considerate of other users of advertising and visual promotion spaces across the state and refrain from destroying, removing or defacing campaign materials belonging to opponents.

“Such actions are unlawful and contrary to the principles of peaceful democratic engagement. No political party, candidate, individual or support group is permitted to erect billboards or advertisement structures in any part of Anambra State except through duly registered and licensed advertising practitioners recognised by ARCON and authorised by ANSAA.

“We are also cautioning against the indiscriminate pasting of posters on public buildings, road signs, bridges, flyovers, drainage channels, public monuments, utility installations, schools, hospitals and other prohibited locations across the state.

“ANSAA enforcement teams will monitor compliance throughout the campaign period, while violators of the guidelines will face sanctions in accordance with the laws of Anambra State,” he added.

Ngobili urged political stakeholders to approach the electioneering process peacefully, stressing that elections should not be treated as a “do-or-die affair.”

He also called on journalists and media practitioners to support the agency in ensuring a peaceful, professional and orderly out-of-home campaign environment across the state.

Tension in Abia community over proposed cassava processing plant on disputed land

The Obinolu Chukwu community i‍n Umunneochi local government area of Abia State has been gripped by tension, following the planned establishment of a cassava processing plant on a disputed community land, contrary to a valid court order.

Some members of the community, who raised the alarm over the proposed project, advised all defendants in the case to respect the ruling by Justice Chido Nwakamma on the Obinolu Chukwu community land.

The  community members  claimed that the Chairman of Umunneochi local government area, Sunday Afurobi recently held a meeting with the traditional ruler of Obinolu autonomous community, Eze L.O. Uche  where a proposal was made to site a cassava processing plant on the land that is still in dispute.

One of the agitated indigenes of  the community, Mr. Sopuruchukwu  Gold said  that Abia State High Court Umunneochi Division holding in Nkwoagu Isuochi had  in its ruling in suit No.HUM/11/2025, restrained defendants from surveying or  parcellating the land pending the determination of the suit.

He warned that any attempt to disobey the restraining order issued by Justice Chido Nwakamma on April 30, 2025, could destroy the peace of the Obinolu Chukwu community.

Gold appealed to the Chairman of Umunneochi and other people allegedly involved in the land deal to suspend their action pending the final determination of the court  and other reconciliation processes.

The indigenes also  appealed to Governor Alex Otti  and  security agencies to urgently  prevent breakdown of law and order by  intervening  in the matter.

When contacted, the Chairman of Umunneochi LGA, Sunday Afurobi said he is not from Obinolu Chukwu community and did not know that the land was in dispute, explaining that his decision to site the project on the  four plots of land was to create jobs and economic development.

“We have written to the Ndi Ezes and they showed me one land. If they have a court injunction I don’t know”, he said.

Afurobu said that the Ezes had promised to approach the Judge to seek his permission for the project, warning that he would relocate the project to another community if the Obinolu Chukwu community rejects the opportunity.

  • LSSTF, Police Fly Across Lagos Skies To Bolster Safety And Public Confidence

LSSTF, Police Fly Across Lagos Skies To Bolster Safety And Public Confidence

In a decisive response to emerging security concerns and as part of efforts to sustain Lagos State’s status as a safe and secured state, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command and Nigeria Police Air Wing, today conducted an extensive aerial surveillance patrol across the entire length and breadth of Lagos State.

The operation, led by the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, also had senior police officers, including the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani; ACP Nsikan Boniface, Pilot, Nigeria Police Air Wing Department, Force Headquarters; Pilot, CSP Dazi Manga; Admin Officer, RRS Lagos, DSP Saka Ayodele as well as the LSSTF Director of Administration, Mr. Degbola Lewis. It covered key zones of Lagos across both the mainland and Island corridors, providing real-time situational awareness and supporting intelligence-led security operations.

Speaking before the surveillance exercise, Dr. Ogunsan described the initiative as a proactive measure aimed at enhancing public safety, strengthening rapid-response capabilities, and providing additional support for security agencies tasked with protecting lives and property across Lagos.

According to him, the aerial patrols are not a one-time exercise but will become a regular feature of the State’s security architecture. The LSSTF Boss, Dr. Ogunsan shared: “We started this mission a few months ago, and we stated very clearly that we are not here to frighten anyone but to encourage Lagosians to be fully ready to support us in this move to keep Lagos safe.”

“The first exercise was a successful one. Lagosians responded very well to it and we promised that we will keep this going. This is a follow-up. We have been running this silently without informing Lagosians but for the tension in the land, it is important that we carry you along.”

“The Executive Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed us to assure you that Lagos is safe and that the security of this land is his priority, and that he is working 24 hours a day to ensure that Lagos is safe. This is a message of hope, comfort, encouragement, and assurance that you have a caring leader who has security paramount to his heart.”

Ogunsan continued: “As his foot soldiers, we are also assuring you that our air, land, and sea are very safe. This is a subnational contribution to national security. Mr. President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing more than enough to ensure that Nigeria is safe but, as subnationals, we must also contribute our own quota. We will get in the air now to patrol the entire Lagos and also identify areas of concern to security and ensure that the right thing is done.”

Dr. Ogunsan also urged Lagosians not to be alarmed by the increased presence of low-flying surveillance aircraft across various parts of the State in the coming days. “In the next few days, the air will be very busy but I assure Lagosians to not be scared when they hear the sounds of the aircraft hovering around your area. We are your people, it is not strange forces, and we will ensure that the right things are done,” he noted.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani added about the need for air surveillance: “This is to boost the confidence of the public, that the Police is ready to secure them. It is to tell the Lagosians that the Police are not just on the land, even on the air. By hovering around the state, we know that there is no hiding place for criminals on the land, the sea, and now in the air.”

These aerial patrols facilitated by LSSTF will continue on a sustained basis as part of a broader strategy to improve surveillance, intelligence gathering, and operational effectiveness. It will also help to stamp out all forms of criminality in the nation’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos.

  • Frustrated Senators Makes U-turn Insist On Mandatory Electronic Transmission Of Result After APC Denied Them Tickets

Frustrated Senators Makes U-turn Insist On Mandatory Electronic Transmission Of Result After APC Denied Them Tickets

It is no longer hidden that Nigerian Senators are currently agitating for mandatory transmission of election result from poling units to INEC server. These were the same people who few months ago stood on the failed APC mandate and said mandatory transmission of election result is optional.

The simple question is why the turn around now after they have lost their primary election. The Senate’s sudden passion for mandatory electronic transmission of election results did not come from love for democracy alone. No. Politics is rarely that innocent.

What changed was simple: the game turned against the players (The National Assembly) who thought they controlled it.Many lawmakers supported rigid party rules and executive backed electoral arrangements because they believed they had secured automatic return tickets. They trusted the system, until the same machinery began quietly replacing them with preferred candidates during the APC primaries.

That was the shock. The senators suddenly realized something dangerous: the political structure they helped strengthen could also be used to politically bury them. And once survival entered the conversation, transparency became attractive.

As our elders say, “The trap a man sets for another may eventually catch his own leg.”By insisting on compulsory electronic transmission without loopholes, lawmakers are no longer fighting for ideology; they are fighting to prevent party machinery from manufacturing outcomes behind closed doors.

In simple terms, many of them now understand that if elections must be won, then votes must genuinely count. The irony is powerful: those who benefited from the old system are now helping dismantle it because the system has finally turned against them.

Politics has a strange way of teaching people the value of fairness.

UCL: ‘They’ve been in final, lost’ – Disu predicts Arsenal vs PSG clash

Former Nigeria international, Taju Disu, has given his prediction for Saturday’s Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

The clash between the champions of England and France will be played in Budapest.

PSG are the current holders having thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 last year, while the Gunners are looking to lift the trophy for the first time ever.

Disu, speaking with Footy-Africa, expressed his optimism that this would be Arsenal’s year.

“I hope Arsenal will win it this time because they have been in the final before and lost. It’s been a long time coming.

“I wish them the very best of luck. It’s not going to be an easy match because PSG are a great side and defending champions, but if Arsenal can get their tactics right, they can win,” Disu said.

World Cup 2026: ‘Quite unfortunate’ – Asamoah Gyang sympathises with Nigeria as Super Eagles miss out

Ghanaian legend, Asamoah Gyan has conveyed his sympathy to Nigeria following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

With the FIFA World Cup expanding to include 48 teams, of which ten slots are designated for African nations, numerous fans and analysts were hoping that the Super Eagles would successfully qualify for the 2026 tournament set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Super Eagles missed out on World Cup qualification after a thrilling 4-3 defeat in a penalty shootout against the Democratic Republic of Congo during the African playoff final last November.

Former Black Stars captain Gyan characterized the situation as unfortunate while reflecting on the competitive rivalry between the two prominent West African nations.

In a discussion on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa, Gyan said, “When discussing the two nations, Ivory Coast is also quite close to Ghana, but the language barrier sets them apart.

“Although Ghana and Nigeria do not share a border, Ivory Coast and Nigeria are our brothers; however, in terms of competitiveness, we share a more rivalrous relationship with Nigeria. It is a healthy rivalry.

“It’s quite unfortunate. Nigeria possesses a strong team. The healthy rivalry between our two nations is remarkable.”

Nigeria has now experienced back-to-back absences from the World Cup for the first time since their inaugural participation in 1994.
