Quit If You Don’t End Terrorism, Insurgency Within The Next 90 Days..Pastor E A Adeboye Tells Service Chiefs

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged the Federal Government to give Nigeria’s security chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorists or resign from office.

Adeboye made the call in a video shared on his X handle on Tuesday.

He expressed concern over the country’s worsening security situation and called for urgent action against perpetrators of violence.

According to him, security chiefs should be held accountable for results in the fight against terrorism.

He said, “You can only advise the commander-in-chief. You can’t command him, because if you command the commander-in-chief, then you become the commander of the commander-in-chief. That doesn’t make sense.

“But I’ve tried. And God is my witness. I don’t want to take much of your time.

“What should we do now? I’m talking to you as my children. If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast. And tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign.”

The cleric also urged the government to target not only terrorists but also their sponsors, regardless of their influence.

He said, “When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, we should make it clear to them that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists; they should eliminate their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be.”

Adeboye recalled that a former Nigerian president once issued a similar directive to security chiefs, but said the order was not fully enforced after the deadline elapsed.

He said, “There was a president, unfortunately he’s dead now… who called the service chiefs together and said, I give you three months. Get rid of all these Boko Haram people, or resign.”

He added, “He ran with that advice, but he didn’t follow it through… because he gave the order as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. But security operatives moved fast.”

Adeboye said he later met the late president after the deadline passed, noting that the experience shaped his current recommendation.

He said, “So I went to see him… this time, somehow, the press got to know that I visited him… unfortunately, like I said, he’s not alive now.”

The cleric added that his advice to government remains that security chiefs must not only be tasked with eliminating terrorists but also their sponsors “no matter how influential they may be.”

His remarks come amid renewed concerns over terrorist attacks, banditry, and kidnappings in several parts of the country, with growing calls for stronger measures to address insecurity.

  • Enugu Teachers Demand Release Of Abducted Oyo Teachers, Pupils

Enugu Teachers Demand Release Of Abducted Oyo Teachers, Pupils

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Enugu State Chapter, Tuesday, embarked on a solidarity rally to demand the immediate and unconditional release of teachers and pupils kidnapped in Oyo State.

The rally took the teachers to the Government House, Enugu, where they called the attention of Gov Peter Mbah to the plight of the abductees, and the urgent need for the federal and state governments to put all measures in place to ensure the safe return of the victims.

Some of the placards carried by the teachers read: “An attack on teachers is an attack on Education”, “Release our children and colleagues now”.

The Chairman of the state chapter of NUT, Comrade Theophilus Odo, lamented that schools are becoming endangered for both educators and students by the activities of bandits.

He explained that the protest was ordered by the national headquarters of the union in Abuja, and targeted at pressuring the government at all levels to secure learning institutions.

According to him, “Our teachers are discharging their work normally. These children went to school; they didn’t come back, and they have not come back up till now. It happens in many other states of the federation including Borno, Nasarawa and Niger.”

The teachers therefore appealed to all the governments to adopt all measures towards “the immediate and unconditional release of our teachers because this could happen to any other person”.

Odo added, “We want them to keep our schools safe so that teachers will be comfortable going to school. School should not be a danger zone for the teachers and children. We are here at the Government House to register our protest.”

Gov Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidi Onyia, commended the peaceful nature of the demonstration. He assured the union that their message and plight would be directly conveyed to the governor for onward engagement with the federal authorities.

  • INEC Admits Staff Leaked Emeka Ike’s Data, Begins Probe

INEC Admits Staff Leaked Emeka Ike’s Data, Begins Probe

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that its personnel improperly accessed and exposed the voter registration data of Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike.

INEC, however, said there was no external breach of its voter database.

The commission said it launched an investigation after allegations surfaced on social media that information from its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) system was accessed without authorisation and later published online.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, said: “The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to allegations currently circulating on social media and in some sections of the media regarding the alleged unauthorised access to the Commission’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database and the subsequent publication of information on a candidate in the recent primaries of a political party in the Federal Capital Territory.

“The Commission takes this allegation seriously and has immediately commenced a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.”

INEC explained that access to the CVR system is strictly controlled and limited to authorised officials carrying out registration-related duties.

“As part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, authorised INEC Registration Officers were granted controlled access to specific components of the CVR system to enable them to register new applicants, process requests for transfer of registration and update voter records where necessary. Such access is restricted to official duties only and is withdrawn at the conclusion of the exercise,” it said.

A preliminary audit has identified the user account involved in the access, said Haruna.

“The audit trail from the preliminary investigation has enabled the Commission to identify the user account through which the information was accessed. Accordingly, relevant personnel have been questioned, and all units connected with the incident are cooperating fully with the investigation.”

According to the electoral umpire, it is examining possible breaches of internal controls and determining individual responsibility.

“The Commission is also examining all technical, administrative and operational factors associated with the matter in order to establish individual responsibility and determine the circumstances surrounding the use of those credentials and identify any breach of internal access-control protocols before taking appropriate action against anyone involved,” it added.

“Preliminary findings from the Commission’s audit trail so far, however, indicate that there was no external breach of the CVR database, no hacking incident, and no unauthorised external access to the Commission’s ICT infrastructure. Rather, the information in question was accessed through valid user credentials assigned to personnel participating in the ongoing CVR exercise but released without authority.

“The incident under investigation relates to the retrieval of a specific voter record and does not indicate any compromise of the Commission’s broader voter registration infrastructure or the personal data of over 90 million registered voters.”

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to data protection and accountability, adding that security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), are investigating the matter.

“The Commission will continue to cooperate fully with all relevant security agencies and will not hesitate to refer any person found culpable for appropriate legal action,” Haruna stated.

“Members of the public and the media are therefore urged to disregard unfounded speculations while investigations remain ongoing. The Commission will continue to keep the public informed of its final findings and any measures taken in response to the incident in due course.”

The actor’s voter registration data was posted on social media by Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

  • Legal battle over Adamawa’s Fufore Emirate moves to Court of Appeal

Legal battle over Adamawa’s Fufore Emirate moves to Court of Appeal

A suit challenging the creation of the Fufore Emirate in Adamawa State has been taken to the Court of Appeal after a High Court dismissed it.

The Fufore Emirate was carved out of the most prominent emirate in Adamawa State, the Adamawa Emirate, in December 2024, after which three traditional title holders of the Adamawa Emirate went to court challenging the creation of the new emirate.

A High Court in Yola had ruled in March this year that the emirate was created in accordance with legal procedure; however, the dissatisfied plaintiffs have now taken their legal battle to the Yola Division of the Court of Appeal, restating their demands.

The appellants — Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed, Alhaji Mustapha Dahiru Mustapha and Alhaji Mustapha Ahmadu — filed their Notice of Appeal on Tuesday, seeking to overturn the judgment delivered by Justice Musa Usman of the Adamawa State High Court on March 3, 2026.

The suit at issue not only challenges the creation of the Fufore Emirate but also the appointment of Alhaji Mohammed Sani Ahmadu Ribadu as the Emir, citing procedural deficiencies.

They now argue before the appellate court that the trial court erred in law by declaring their suit incompetent for failure to serve a pre-action notice, despite the urgency of the matter.

The appellants also faulted the lower court’s decision on locus standi, insisting that as senior traditional title holders within the Adamawa Emirate, they have direct interests in matters affecting the integrity of the emirate.

Specifically, in their appeal, the traditional title holders are seeking the nullification of Adamawa State Legal Notice No. 56 of 2024 issued on December 20, 2024, which created the Fufore Emirate.

They are also asking the court to invalidate the inauguration of the Fufore Emirate and its Emirate Council, and to restrain the Fufore Emir from presenting himself as the Emir.

  • Lagos Teachers Protest Oyo School Abductions

Lagos Teachers Protest Oyo School Abductions

Teachers in Lagos State on Tuesday staged a protest to demand the rescue of pupils, students and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, raising concerns over the safety of schools across the country.

The demonstration, organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), followed a directive from the union’s national leadership for simultaneous protests in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory against the increasing cases of kidnappings and attacks targeting schools and education workers.

Hundreds of teachers marched from Ikeja to the Lagos State House of Assembly, carrying placards and banners with messages calling for enhanced security in schools and swift action to rescue the abducted victims.

Addressing the protesters, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, described the establishment of state police as a viable solution to Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.

Obasa said the Assembly shared the concerns of the teachers, particularly over the recent abduction in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, stressing that all stakeholders must work together to address insecurity.

“We are all concerned about the situation, particularly the one that happened in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Here at the Lagos State House of Assembly, we have been doing our best to ensure security. That is why this House has, several times, been at the forefront of state police,” he said.

The Speaker noted that recent comments by President Bola Tinubu on state policing underscored the growing recognition of its importance in tackling security threats.

“Recently, we read about the position of President Bola Tinubu on state police. This further confirms that it is both necessary and important for this country to have state police. It is not about protesting alone; we all need to come together to find lasting solutions,” Obasa added.

He also urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing useful information and intelligence, stressing that ensuring public safety should not be left solely to government institutions.

Earlier, Lagos State NUT Chairman, Akintoye Hassan, said the protest was not solely in response to the recent abductions in Oyo State but reflected longstanding concerns over repeated attacks on schools and education workers nationwide.

According to him, teachers have continued to face threats and insecurity for years, recalling major incidents such as the Chibok and Dapchi school abductions.

“Our effort is not even about the recent Oyo incident. It dates back to 2014 when we had the Chibok and Dapchi incidents. Teachers of Nigeria not only teach knowledge; we teach values. Part of the values we teach are resilience, endurance and tolerance,” Hassan said.

He called on Nigerians to stop politicising insecurity and instead treat it as a national challenge that affects every sector of society, including education.

THE WHISTLER reports that popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, alongside several civil society groups and activists, last week criticised Tinubu over the continued captivity of scores of abducted schoolchildren across the country.

In a statement issued following the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, the activists said at least 81 Nigerian children remain in captivity after being abducted by terrorists in Oyo and Borno states.

According to the statement, 39 pupils and seven teachers were abducted from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esinele, and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The group added that one of the abducted teachers, identified as Mr. Oyedokun Olugbade, was recently killed by his captors.

The statement further noted that another 42 children were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, during an attack on Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
