FCT police begins enforcement of ban on tinted glass

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the ban on tinted glass vehicles following the activities of one-chance criminal elements operating across the territory.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

The FCT police boss revealed that vehicles with tinted glasses, concealed or covered number plates, and unregistered vehicles have been involved in criminal activities with the city.

According to Sanusi, intelligence reports indicate that many criminal elements operating within the nation’s capital “deliberately use such vehicles to conceal their identities, evade detection, and frustrate law enforcement efforts”.

“This poses a serious threat to public safety,” the CP added.

He said following the intelligence, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has directed the command to “commenced a comprehensive enforcement operation targeting vehicles operating in violation of these regulations”.

The exercise, according to the CP “is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens who have legitimately acquired approval to use tints on their vehicles, but it is to deny criminals the cover they exploit to perpetrate crimes against innocent citizens and FCT residents”.

The CP disclosed that over 30 vehicles found to be operating with tinted glass, covered or obscured number plates, and without proper registration have already been impounded.

“The owners and operators of these vehicles will be charged to court in accordance with the Laws of the Federation and the FCT Road Transport Regulations (2023),” he said.

Portugal players Ruben Dias and Jose Sá have underscored the significance of their forthcoming friendly match against Nigeria as the European team continues its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A Seleção das Quinas is set to face the Super Eagles at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria next Wednesday, marking their second encounter in four years.

While Dias participated in the first half of Portugal’s 4-0 victory over Nigeria in November 2002, the Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper remained an unused substitute.

In anticipation of Portugal’s warm-up matches against Chile and Nigeria, goalkeeper Jose Sá emphasized that both games will be crucial in assisting the squad to fine-tune its preparations prior to the tournament’s commencement.

“These will be two very important games against Chile and Nigeria to prepare for the World Cup. We are focused on giving our best and preparing well for the first game in the competition,” Sá stated to A Bola.

Manchester City center-back Dias, who has been selected for Portugal’s World Cup squad for the third time, echoed Sá’s views and pointed out the unpredictable nature of the tournament.

“Yes, they will be extremely important. This is my third World Cup and I have already experienced firsthand, in various and different circumstances, the difficulty of playing against anyone in the World Cup,” Dias remarked to A Bola.
