Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to vote out the ruling party, warning that the country risks a bleak future if the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains in power.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Arise TV Prime Time, Atiku said Nigerians must take decisive action if they want change.

“My final message to the Nigerian people is they should vote out APC if they want their future. If they don’t, it’s going to be a disaster. I don’t see the pathway to a brighter future for Nigeria in APC. Certainly not,” he said.

Also speaking, Atiku dismissed concerns about the financial strength of the ruling party and its ability to influence elections, insisting that public support matters more than money.
“I don’t have their kind of money, but the power of the people is there. I’m not worried about their financial muscle,” he said.

Atiku also alleged that the APC relies on public funds, suggesting that voters can still make independent choices at the polls.
“They are using public money, and the public can take the money and do what they want,” he said.

Responding to questions about his personal wealth, Atiku said he built his business empire long before entering politics.
“I was already in business, in oil and gas logistics, agriculture, and other sectors before I joined politics,” he said.

“I even virtually set up and funded the PDP, yet nobody accused me of corruption at that time. I wouldn’t say I am a very wealthy man. I’m comfortable,” he added.

The Senate, through its Committee on Public Accounts, has set April 29, 2026, as deadline for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, to account for the missing N210 trillion flagged in audit reports of 2017 to 2023.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Aliyu Wadada (SDP Nasarawa West), issued the ultimatum on Wednesday after a meeting at the National Assembly, Abuja.

He directed NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, to appear before the committee on the said date, unfailingly, with his predecessor, Mele Kyari, and other key past officials like former Chief Financial Officer, CFO, Umar Ajia, Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC, Dr Bala Wunti, and external auditors of the national oil company.

The resolutions of the committee followed a motion moved to that effect by Senator Osita Izunaso (APC Imo West) and seconded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC Edo North).

Wadada said the committee was not satisfied with earlier responses from the oil firm on 19 audit queries, saying Nigerians deserve convincing, detailed explanations, not blanket statements.

The committee specifically rejected NNPCL’s description of N103 trillion as “liabilities” without a breakdown, explaining that the liabilities have three components—retention fee, legal fee and audit fee.

While demanding the exact amount spent on each component and supporting documentation, he also called for clarity on N107 trillion NNPCL said was spent on Joint Venture Cash Calls.

“This committee and by extension, the Senate, is not satisfied with blanket explanation given by NNPCL on N103trillion which it said, stands for liabilities because liabilities are in three components which are retention fee, legal fee and audit fee.

“Specific amount of money spent on each of the three components, must be stated and explained.

“Detailed explanation is also expected to be given on the N107trillion NNPCL said it expended on JVC cash call and part of the money allegedly owed by some defunct banks whose names were not mentioned.

“Consequently, it is hereby resolved that the NNPCL is given an additional two weeks to unfailingly appear before this committee. The deadline for compliance is set for Wednesday, April 29, 2026,“ Wadada stressed.

Earlier before the resolution, a member of the committee, Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP Bauchi Central), called for invocation of powers of the National Assembly to compel the appearance of NNPCL management, having failed repeatedly to appear before the panel.

“We must treat this matter with the utmost seriousness. The essence of democracy rests significantly on the strength and authority of the legislature.

“Unfortunately, in recent times, there appears to be a growing reluctance by individuals to honour invitations from the National Assembly, leaving members feeling helpless in compelling appearances before committees,” he said.

Senate sets April 29 deadline for NNPCL to account for missing N210trn

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has called on Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country amid growing security challenges.

The governor made the call on Wednesday during an interfaith seminar and prayer session for clerics held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.

Speaking at the event, Governor Idris stressed the need for unity among citizens in seeking divine intervention to address the nation’s security situation.

“Nigeria needs prayer to overcome the lingering security challenges; therefore, we must unite in prayer to save this country,” he said.

He also urged religious leaders and citizens to pray for the country, the President, and Kebbi State.

The seminar, organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Kebbi State Council of Ulama, focused on the role of clerics in promoting peace, security and good governance.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Muhammad Sani Aliyu, said clerics play a critical role in fostering peace and social harmony.

Other speakers at the event, including Islamic and Christian leaders, called for justice, responsible leadership and the promotion of unity across religious lines.

Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists have reportedly killed a Nigerian police officer and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF.

This was disclosed in a post on X by a security analyst, Brant Philip. He said the police officer and CJTF members were captured previously in separate locations in Borno State.

According to the report, the ISWAP terrorists four days earlier also executed a CJTF militiaman they captured previously near Damasak.

Philip wrote: “ISWAP executed yesterday a Nigerian police officer and two CJTF militiamen they captured previously in separate locations of Borno State, Nigeria. Four days earlier the group also executed an CJTF militiaman they captured previously near Damasak, Borno State.

“When these militiamen, soldiers and police officers are captured the group doesn’t immediately claim it, they’re usually held for a few days for them to extract information, and then executed in bulk and only after that comes the claims.”
