Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has cleared the air on reports linking Marcus Rashford with a reunion with former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr this summer.

Rashford’s future is still not clear at Man United after he returned to the club following the expiration of his loan spell at Barcelona last season.

Reports later emerged that the England international could join Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.

Speaking on the development on his YouTube channel, Romano said, “In the last 24 hours on social media, many rumours on Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, the champions of Saudi trying to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. Guys, let me clarify one thing,” Romano said.

“According to my information, Rashford is not leaving Manchester United this summer, in case of proposals that are coming from these kinds of countries.

“Marcus Rashford eventually would only leave Man United if a top European club arrives and puts big money on the table for Man United, because you still need to agree with Man Utd. The release clause is no longer valid.”

Holders Nigeria’s Flying Eagles sealed a place in the semi-finals of the WAFU B U-20 Championship after a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Sparrow Hawks of Togo.

The result confirmed Togo’s elimination after they had earlier suffered a 3-1 defeat to Burkina Faso.

Both teams struggled to create any meaningful scoring opportunities in the first half.

Nigeria, however, took control of the game after the break, with Muiz Adeleke scoring the curtain raiser in the 46th minute.

Adeleke netted Nigeria’s second of the game three minutes before the hour mark.

The young striker has now scored four goals in two outings in the competition.

Abdullahi Agbeloye increased Nigeria’s lead five minutes from time.

The Flying Eagles, who top Group B with six points, will face Burkina Faso in their next game on Sunday.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Joe-Kyari Gadzama, has challenged the decision of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) suspending him from legal practice for three years, saying he has commenced steps to appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court.

The LPDC, in its decision delivered on July 29, found Gadzama and another lawyer, Ocha Ulegede, guilty of breaching provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2023, in relation to their handling of a matter involving victims of the 2001 Zaki Biam killings in Benue State.

While Gadzama was suspended for three years, Ulegede received a two-year suspension. The committee also directed that all Heads of Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria be notified of the decision, with the sanctions taking immediate effect.

Reacting in a statement on Thursday, Gadzama said he had instructed his legal team to challenge the decision before the Supreme Court, insisting that the committee’s findings were not supported by either the evidence presented or the applicable law.

He said although he was yet to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the LPDC’s decision, his lawyers had been directed to file an appeal without delay.

According to him, Section 11(8)(a) of the Legal Practitioners Act provides that where an appeal is filed within the stipulated period, the disciplinary committee’s decision cannot take effect until the appeal is determined.

“My attention has been drawn to the direction delivered on July 29, 2026, by the LPDC in Complaint No. BB/LPDC/1314/2024. While I am yet to receive the Certified True Copy of the decision, I have instructed my legal team to file an immediate appeal,” he said.

Gadzama maintained that he holds the institutions regulating the legal profession in high esteem but disagreed with the committee’s conclusions.
According to him, the petition accused him of improperly taking over another lawyer’s brief, soliciting clients and wrongfully appropriating professional fees.

He, however, described the allegations as unfounded, maintaining that he was directly engaged by the judgment creditors through written letters of instruction and acted strictly within the scope of that professional engagement.

He further argued that the dispute centred on issues of legal representation and professional fees, which, in his view, ought not to have been resolved through disciplinary proceedings.

The senior lawyer expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would objectively review both the legal and factual issues raised in the appeal.
He also reassured his clients, colleagues and members of the public that his right to practise law remains intact pending the determination of the appeal in line with the provisions of the Legal Practitioners Act.

Gadzama reaffirmed his commitment to the legal profession, the administration of justice and professional ethics, expressing confidence that justice would prevail.

The disciplinary proceedings arose from Complaint No. BB/LPDC/1314/2024 filed by Chris Alashi against Gadzama and Ulegede over their involvement in the legal representation of victims of the 2001 Zaki Biam massacre.

The Zaki Biam incident followed a military operation launched in Benue State after the killing of 19 soldiers. During the operation, hundreds of villagers were reportedly killed and several communities destroyed.

The victims later sued the Federal Government and, in 2007, the Federal High Court awarded them N41.8bn in compensation. Although the government initially appealed the judgment, the parties later negotiated an out-of-court settlement of N8bn.

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has warned residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of possible flooding in the next seven days following rising water levels on the Gurara River.

NIHSA, in a statement on Thursday by its Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, said the Izom gauge on the Gurara River had exceeded the warning threshold, with monitoring stations also recording elevated river stages that could trigger flooding in parts of the FCT.

The agency urged residents living in flood-prone communities to move to higher ground as a precaution against possible flooding.

It also advised residents against crossing flooded roads, bridges or fast-moving water, either on foot or with vehicles, to avoid casualties.

Reacting to the alert, the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) called on residents and relevant authorities to clear drainage channels and remove structures obstructing natural waterways or built on flood plains to reduce the impact of flooding.

FEMD also urged residents to report emergencies through the toll-free 112 emergency line in the event of any flood-related disaster.

At least five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade. GAPOSA, Ogun State, were reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen on Wednesday.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday when the attackers invaded a private student hostel along Paraga Road, Ipara-Remo, one of the communities adjoining the polytechnic.

It was learnt that the attack lasted for approximately 30 minutes, during which the assailants allegedly fired gunshots and abducted several students.

Following the incident, the polytechnic management suspended all examinations scheduled for Thursday.

“Following the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, today’s examination has been cancelled. However, tomorrow’s examination remains scheduled as planned. If there is any change regarding tomorrow’s examination, an official announcement will be communicated promptly.

“For now, all students are encouraged to remain calm, stay positive, and continue preparing for their examinations. We are hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon,” the notice read.

The Students’ Union Government, SUG confirmed that five students were affected.

In a statement jointly signed by the SUG President, Akinpelu Bukunmi Timothy, General Secretary Salau Boluwaduro Saidat, and Public Relations Officer, Matthew Francis Sonayon, the attacked hostel “is situated in a remote area surrounded by thick bush, making it vulnerable and unsuitable as a safe residential environment for students.”

“At approximately 7:45 p.m., suspected armed bandits attacked a private student hostel located along Paraga Road, Ipara. The hostel is situated in a remote area surrounded by thick bush, making it vulnerable and unsuitable as a safe residential environment for students.

“The attack lasted for approximately 30 minutes. Due to the isolated location of the hostel, residents in surrounding areas were unable to hear or respond to the incident in time. During the attack, the assailants fired gunshots; however, no student lost their life. By the grace of God, several students escaped through the POP ceiling, while others were unable to flee.

“We can confirm that five students were abducted during the incident. The matter has officially been reported to the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies, and we are confident that immediate efforts are underway to ensure the safe rescue of the affected students.”

They urged students, parents, guardians, and members of the public to disregard “false, exaggerated, and unverified information” circulating on social media.

The union added: “While the incident is real and deeply unfortunate, many of the stories currently in circulation do not accurately represent the facts and only serve to create unnecessary fear and panic within the school community.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the abduction but said the command had yet to ascertain whether the victims were students.

“The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the abduction incident reported at a private hostel in the Ipara area on the night of Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

“Immediately the distress report was received, the Command activated a coordinated operational response, deploying tactical teams and intelligence assets to the area. Bush-combing and other targeted operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible.

“The exact number of victims is yet to be ascertained, as verification and investigation are still in progress.”

He urged members of the public to disregard unverified figures and refrain from circulating misinformation capable of undermining ongoing operations.

Five students kidnapped as gunmen attack Ogun polytechnic hostel

The Lagos State Government has sealed the Oluremi Tinubu and Anambra warehouses at Ijesha Bus Stop over persistent indiscriminate dumping of waste on the road median.

The enforcement operation was carried out on Thursday morning by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority’s (LAWMA) Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement (WISE) team in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and the Nigeria Police.

Announcing the development, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegeshi, said the action followed repeated environmental sanitation violations by the affected facilities.

According to him, the decision to seal the warehouses reflects the state’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure, restoring environmental order and ensuring strict compliance with Lagos State environmental laws.

“The affected premises will remain sealed until all compliance requirements have been met to the satisfaction of the relevant authorities,” Gbadegeshi said on X.

He reiterated that maintaining a clean Lagos requires responsible waste management by every resident, business and institution, stressing that environmental laws would continue to be enforced without exception.

Stakeholders at the public hearing on the proposed Ogun State Safe Termination of Pregnancy Law, 2026, have commended the State House of Assembly for initiating the bill, describing it as a well-conceived legislation.

According to them, it is aimed at reducing maternal mortality, protecting healthcare professionals and providing a clear legal framework for safe pregnancy management in the state.

The stakeholders included a former Chairman of the State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr Azeem Ashimi, the representative of the State chapter of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Nurse Bello Adejoke, the Onitafin of Otafin, Oba Morufu Adebayo among others.

At the event on Thursday, they raised the need to address the legal ambiguity surrounding safe termination of pregnancy, noting that such ambiguity in the legal provisions often resulted in dangerous delays in patient care, calling for adequate indemnity for qualified medical practitioners to prevent unjust penalties.

They also advocated for machineries to be put in place to prevent the victims of rape and incest from patronizing quacks, by ensuring that only licensed professionals provide such medical services.

In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, said the proposed legislation would establish a framework around safeguarding the lives and health of women; while also safeguarding health practitioners offering the services.

Coker added that the bill would help reduce maternal mortality and provide access to mental health services for women and girls experiencing emotional trauma arising from unwanted pregnancy.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Wahab Haruna, explained that the bill was conceived because “too many of our mothers, sisters and daughters lose their lives or suffer serious harm from complications arising from pregnancy and childbirth, many of which are preventable.”

He urged the stakeholders to make meaningful contributions to the bill, assuring that their inputs would be given the necessary legislative consideration in the process leading to the passage of the bill.

Earlier, while declaring the stakeholders’ forum open, the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, said the proposed legislation was designed to provide “a legal and institutional framework for the safe termination of pregnancy under the defined circumstances.”

He noted that the Assembly considered the increasing incidence of unregulated abortions and considered the resultant deaths of adolescents and women as unacceptable.

The Speaker added that the bill would ensure the provision of a legal framework that would not only safeguard the livelihoods of genuine medical practitioners but also deter criminal elements who exploited the absence of rules and regulations to perpetrate evils in the society.

According to him, “the legislation seeks to entrench safe motherhood, reduce maternal morbidity and mortality and establish the conditions for the safe termination of pregnancy,” while assuring the participants that every submission made would be meticulously considered in ensuring that the bill takes care of the stakeholders’ interest.

He expressed confidence that the engagement would produce a comprehensive legislation that would strengthen safe pregnancy management in the state.
