Goje dismisses reported APC primary result

Senator Muhammadu Danjuma Goje has distanced himself from the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Gombe Central, saying the results being circulated are not authentic.

The lawmaker’s position was contained in a statement released on Monday by his Special Assistant, Ahmed Isa Kashere, shortly after reports emerged that retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmadu, won the contest.

Unofficial figures attributed to the election’s returning officer, Dr. Habu Dahiru, indicated that Ahmadu scored 42,785 votes, while Goje polled 10,425 votes in the exercise conducted in Gombe State.

The reported outcome has generated political reactions within the APC, with many observers linking it to the growing rivalry among key party figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Despite the reports, Goje maintained that no official declaration had been made by the party’s national leadership.

In the statement, he urged residents of Gombe Central Senatorial District to ignore what he described as false and misleading election results.

The senator also argued that the APC leadership at the national level remains the only body empowered to officially announce the final outcome of the primary election.

Oyo 2027: It’s turn of Muslim to succeed Makinde – MURIC

Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has declared that it is the turn of a Muslim to succeed the incumbent governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde.

The association noted that this was necessary in order to ensure equity, fairness and justice among adherents of two major religions in the state.

MURIC made these declarations via a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement was made available to DAILY POST, Tuesday morning.

Akintola said that Makinde, a Christian having spent eight years in office, it was now the turn of a Muslim to succeed him.

He said, “It is turn by turn. Seyi Makinde, a Christian governor, has spent eight years in office.

‎”We have a convention. If a Muslim spends eight years in office, a Christian should succeed him. It is so vice versa.

“Why does Makinde want to change that unwritten protocol? It is the turn of the Muslims. Makinde should not ignite a religious crisis in Oyo State”.

Kano Rice mill shut over dust emissions, offensive odour – NESREA

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed a rice milling facility in Kano State over alleged environmental violations, following complaints from residents over dust emissions and offensive odour linked to its operations.

The enforcement exercise took place on Monday, and was led by the NESREA Zonal Director, Abdulraheem Mudashir.Mudashir said the action followed several complaints from residents of the area who accused the factory of polluting their environment and disturbing their daily activities.

He explained that checks by the agency showed the facility was not complying with the National Environmental Regulations on Food, Beverages and Tobacco Sector (2009), particularly those covering permit conditions and pollution control standards.According to him, the company had already been issued three compliance and abatement notices, but failed to implement the required corrective measures.

He said the factory was found to be emitting excessive dust into the surrounding environment, while also generating a strong odour that affected nearby households.

Mudashir said: “The company failed to put in place adequate measures to control dust emissions from affecting surrounding communities, in line with Section 48 of the regulation.”He added that despite repeated warnings and notices, the management of the facility did not take the necessary steps to comply with environmental rules, which led to its sealing.“Any facility that refuses to comply with environmental standards will be shut down by NESREA,” he warned. The agency said the enforcement action is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure industrial operators comply with environmental laws and to protect public health across the country.

Wamakko emerges APC Senatorial candidate for Sokoto North

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, has secured the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial ticket for Sokoto North ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wamakko emerged unopposed through an affirmation process conducted by APC members from the eight local government areas of the senatorial district.

The development paves the way for the former governor to seek a fourth term in the Senate.

Speaking after his affirmation on Monday, Wamakko thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and described the exercise as peaceful and successful.

He also commended APC members in Sokoto State for the orderly conduct of the primaries, saying the process reflected unity and internal cohesion within the party.

Wamakko urged political office seekers to view leadership as a platform for service rather than personal enrichment.

The APC national delegation leader, Hadi Ukhashatu, said the affirmation process was conducted in line with the party’s constitutional provisions allowing for elections, consensus, or affirmation of candidates.

He also praised party members in the state for the peaceful atmosphere during the exercise.

Meanwhile, the APC senatorial tickets for Sokoto South and Sokoto East were secured by Danbaba Dambuwa and Umar Ajiya respectively.

Dambuwa, who contested the 2023 senatorial election, is seeking a return to the Senate, while Ajiya will be making his first bid for the upper legislative chamber in 2027.

  • EPL: Patrick Vieira names five current Arsenal players who can get into Invincibles team

EPL: Patrick Vieira names five current Arsenal players who can get into Invincibles team

Former Arsenal midfielder, Patrick Vieira, has revealed the five current Gunners stars he believes are good enough to make it in the starting XI of the club’s legendary Invincible team during the 2003/04 campaign.

Recall that the iconic team, managed by Arsene Wenger, famously became the first and only Premier League side to complete an entire season without a single defeat.

They won 26 matches, drew 12, and gained 90 points after the conclusion of the season as they won the league.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Vieira named Gabriel, Bukayo Saka, David Raya, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice as the players from today’s Arsenal team who would earn a spot in his old team.

“If I had to swap some Invincibles with current stars,” Vieira said, “I’d put David Raya in goal over Jens Lehmann.

“Jurrien Timber at right-back—I really like him. In central defense, I’d keep Sol Campbell but replace Kolo Toure with Gabriel.

“On the right wing, Bukayo Saka gets in ahead of Freddie Ljungberg. Up front, we are not touching Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp. And I’d put Declan Rice in for Gilberto Silva and keep Robert Pires on the left.”

  • Sandra Accuses Ex-Husband Edoho Of Abuse, Infidelity

Sandra Accuses Ex-Husband Edoho Of Abuse, Infidelity

Media personality Frank Edoho has come under fresh allegations from his estranged wife, Sandra, who accused him of infidelity, emotional abuse, neglect, and intimidation in a lengthy social media post shared amid the ongoing controversy surrounding their failed marriage.

In the post, Sandra rejected claims portraying her as an unfaithful woman, writing, “I refuse to be tagged an unfaithful wife, a prostitute, or an ashewo as I have been pegged these past few days.”

She stated that she loved Frank deeply despite opposition from her family, saying, “He didn’t come as the most eligible bachelor, however, I loved him with all my heart & soul, against the wishes of my family.”

Sandra accused the media personality of repeatedly cheating during their marriage, alleging that she secretly gained access to his passwords and financial records.

“You didn’t know I had your passwords for over 3 months! Frolicking with so many women,” she wrote, while also alleging that she discovered hotel visits, payments to hook-up girls, and romantic outings with other women.

She further claimed that she endured humiliation and emotional trauma in silence for years, adding, “I was constantly humiliated, physically abused and traumatised.”

According to Sandra, she financially supported several aspects of their lifestyle, including paying off a Range Rover loan and investing in properties. She alleged that one of the properties she funded was later sold without her approval.

“The kitchen alone in that house cost me almost the amount you sold that house because you were desperate to do a dirty December,” she claimed.

Sandra also accused Frank of violating her privacy by allegedly recording and releasing private conversations publicly.

“You breached my privacy by audio recording me, you further dishonoured me by releasing those tapes to the public,” she wrote.

In another part of the post, she alleged that the former TV host once threatened her during an argument, claiming he said, “I will destroy your face so no man can ever see your beauty again.”

The estranged wife said she eventually decided to leave the marriage after allegedly fearing for her life.

“When you threatened to kill me at night, I knew this was my cue to leave and never look back,” she stated.

Sandra added that she remained silent for years because of their children and concern over public backlash.

“I feel so sad for even talking about a man I once loved. But I must as I have young children, who would one day be able to understand their mother’s side,” she wrote.

  • U.S. Senate Confirms New Africa Affairs Diplomat

U.S. Senate Confirms New Africa Affairs Diplomat

The United States Senate has confirmed Frank Garcia as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, ending more than a year-long vacancy in the top diplomatic post for the continent.

The Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs is the most senior U.S. State Department official responsible for overseeing American foreign policy and diplomatic relations with all 54 African countries.

During the vacancy, a succession of interim officials led the bureau in the absence of a permanent appointee.

Garcia, a 28-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and former senior adviser to the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, was confirmed on Monday as part of a group vote on 49 Trump administration nominees.

He is relatively unknown within United States’ Africa policy circles and has no documented scholarly or policy record focused specifically on African affairs.

Garcia was recommended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, likely due to his years of experience as an Africa-focused intelligence staffer on Capitol Hill.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee advanced his nomination in March by a 16–6 vote, with all opposition coming from Democrats, although four Democrats later supported him during the full Senate confirmation vote.

At his March confirmation hearing, Garcia signalled a shift in U.S. engagement with Africa, arguing that the US had focused for too long on aid-driven policies and open-ended commitments tied to what he called divisive ideological agendas.

“This administration has reset this relationship toward trade and investment for mutual benefit,” Garcia told senators.

He also pledged that U.S. policy under his leadership would be “firmly rooted in the protection of core U.S. national interests,” aligning with President Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy approach.

Meanwhile, thirty-four of the 54 U.S. ambassadorial positions across Africa currently remain without Senate-confirmed ambassadors.

At Garcia’s confirmation hearing, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, highlighted the growing concern over U.S. disengagement.

“In every country where we have a U.S. vacancy, China has an ambassador,” she said.

Garcia takes office amid conflicts in Sudan and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, while Russian influence through the Wagner Group and its successor, Africa Corps, continues to expand across the Sahel.

Also, relations between the U.S and South Africa, have deteriorated following a series of diplomatic disputes earlier this year.

The Trump administration’s rollback of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has also weakened one of the country’s most influential instruments of soft power on the continent.

The move created a vacuum that analysts warn China and Russia are increasingly exploiting.

  • Three Killed In IS Mosque Shooting

Three Killed In IS Mosque Shooting

A shooting on Monday at a mosque complex in southern California killed three people, with two suspected teenage gunmen later found dead in a car from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds, police said.

Police said emergency response teams found the victims outside the sprawling Islamic Centre of San Diego, before later finding the shooters, aged 18 and 17, also dead.

TV footage from a helicopter showed armed response teams gathered outside a building, with one unidentified person lying in a pool of blood.

“We are actively investigating this as a hate crime,” San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl told reporters. “There was definitely hate rhetoric that was involved.”

The Islamic centre describes itself on its website as the largest mosque in San Diego County, which lies in southern California.

After a short period of lockdown when authorities advised area residents to stay inside, San Diego police announced that the threat at the centre had been “neutralised.”

“We received a call of an active shooter at the Islamic Centre. Within four minutes, officers arrived on scene and observed immediately three deceased victims out in front,” Wahl said.

“We immediately began to deploy with an active shooter response into the mosque and adjacent school,” he said, adding that police had received calls about more gunfire nearby, where a landscaper had been shot at but not hit.

    Place of worship targeted

A few blocks from the centre, police found a vehicle in the middle of the street with the shooters dead inside.

“The suspects at this point appear to have died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. There were no officers involved in firing their weapons,” Wahl said.

He said a security guard at the Islamic centre was among the three victims killed, and his response had helped prevent a deadlier attack.

“His actions were heroic, and he undoubtedly saved lives today,” Wahl said.

The identities of the other two victims were not immediately clear.

Wahl said that the mother of one of the suspects had contacted police two hours before the attack and reported that her son was “suicidal” and that several weapons and her vehicle were missing.

Initially, police deployed to an area around a high school with which the suspect was associated, until they received a call of an active shooter at the Islamic Centre.

The imam at the mosque, Taha Hassane, said that all the staff, teachers and children at the mosque’s school were safe.

“We have never experienced tragedy like this before. And at this moment, all that I can say is, sending our prayers and standing in solidarity with all the families in our community here,” he said.

“It is extremely outrageous to target a place of worship,” the imam added.

President Donald Trump said the shooting was a “terrible situation,” while New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the first Muslim mayor of a major American city, described the attack as “an apparent act of anti-Muslim violence.”

“Islamophobia endangers Muslim communities across this country,” he posted on X, adding that New York police are boosting deployments to mosques “out of an abundance of caution.”

Wahl, the police chief, said that given the location of the attack, investigators were “considering this a hate crime until it’s not.”

State Governor Gavin Newsom expressed horror at the attack, saying: “Worshippers anywhere should not have to fear for their lives.”

“Hate has no place in California, and we will not tolerate acts of terror or intimidation against communities of faith,” he said on X, adding, “To the San Diego Muslim community: California stands with you.”
