Infrastructure Alone Cannot Deliver Lasting Reforms—Aig-Imoukhuede

Chairman of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, has challenged leaders across the public and private sectors to embrace deeper collaboration in driving sustainable public sector reforms and improving service delivery in Nigeria.

Aig-Imoukhuede, who delivered the keynote address at the 2026 International Civil Service Conference (ICSC) in Abuja, said genuine reform goes beyond concessions, privatisation, or infrastructure projects.

He stated that the real goal should be building systems that work efficiently for citizens.

The conference, convened by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and held at Eagle Square from May 20 to 21, attracted over 5,000 participants, including delegates from 16 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America.

The event was themed: “Reforms, Resilience, and Results.”

The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation returned as the conference’s Diamond Partner, the highest category of partnership, playing a major role in shaping discussions around governance reforms and innovation in public service delivery.

Delivering his keynote address titled “Public-Private Collaboration for Service Delivery and Innovation,” Aig-Imoukhuede said the success of governance should be measured by the quality and efficiency of services citizens receive.

“The true measure of whether government is working or not is whether a passport is issued on time, roads are completed on schedule, hospitals function, pensions are paid without distress, and businesses can be registered without bureaucracy,” he stated.

He also challenged business leaders to become more active partners in governance reform, insisting that national development requires stronger cooperation between both sectors.

“The most successful nations are those where government and business work together, not against each other, as no government can do it alone,” he added.

Also, the Executive Vice Chair of the Foundation, Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, said the organisation remains committed to supporting reforms that strengthen public institutions and improve service delivery across Africa.

“The Civil Service remains central to national development. Our continued partnership reflects our commitment to supporting public sector leaders with the tools, networks, and capabilities required to drive results,” she said.

She added that the Foundation’s participation at ICSC 2026 builds on its longstanding collaboration with the Federal Civil Service through initiatives such as the AIG Public Leaders Programme, the AIG Scholarships and Fellowship Programme, and support for the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP25).

  • Ogun to empower 100,000 residents through monthly cash intervention scheme

Ogun to empower 100,000 residents through monthly cash intervention scheme

Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced plans by the Ogun State Government to launch the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), an initiative aimed at providing monthly cash interventions to between 50,000 and 100,000 residents across the state within the next one year.

The governor made this known on Friday during the official opening of the first session of the 15th Synod of the Remo Anglican Diocese, themed “The Empty Tomb: An Authentic Proof of the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ,” held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne.

Governor Abiodun also disclosed that his administration would prioritise the reconstruction of the Sagamu–Ode Lemo Road, stressing that collaboration between government and the Church remains essential to building a peaceful, just, and progressive society.

He commended the Church for its steadfast commitment to spiritual renewal, community development, and godly nation-building at a time when the nation requires strong moral and faith-based guidance. According to him, the Church’s dedication to propagating the gospel, promoting peace, and uplifting humanity continues to inspire hope across the country.

The governor noted that the Synod has remained a sacred platform for prayers, doctrinal guidance, collective reflection, and decision-making that strengthens the body of Christ, while also contributing significantly to the moral and social development of society beyond the Anglican Communion.

Abiodun further praised the Church for its contributions to education, healthcare, youth development, family values, and community welfare, describing it as a critical partner in shaping responsible citizens and nurturing ethical leadership through teachings that promote compassion, honesty, accountability, and peaceful coexistence.

“Throughout history, the Church has stood as a moral voice in society, defending justice, caring for the vulnerable, and encouraging leaders to govern with fairness and integrity.

“Our administration remains committed to creating renewed opportunities for the economy, institutions, and the people of Ogun State.

“As the election season approaches, the Church must continue to stand for truth, peace, and responsible citizenship. The clergy should encourage members to actively participate in the democratic process by registering to vote and exercising their constitutional rights,” he said.

The governor stated that his administration has significantly reduced political tension in the state compared to seven years ago, when politics was characterised by violence and thuggery. He added that the ongoing primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been peaceful, transparent, and credible.

“When I reflect on what happened during my own primaries seven years ago and compare it with what is happening today, it is like night and day, and it gives me every reason to thank God.

“Back then, it was all about rancour, violence, thuggery, and political tension. After I won the primaries, we had to wait cautiously for my declaration because we feared attacks or shootings. today, there is peace across Ogun State,” he said.

In his sermon, the Bishop of the Remo Diocese and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Olusina Fape commended Governor Abiodun for translating his ISEYA development agenda into impactful projects across the three senatorial districts of the state.

He described the recently inaugurated Gateway International Airport as a transformative project capable of easing travel and stimulating commerce and trade within the state.

Archbishop Fape also lauded the state government’s Light Up Ogun Project, describing it as a major catalyst for investment and economic growth. According to him, the provision of stable electricity to residents and businesses remains one of the landmark achievements of the Abiodun administration.

Oyo Teacher Killed By Kidnappers Buried In Ogbomoso

Family members, colleagues and sympathisers gathered on Friday in Ogbomoso for the burial of Joel Adesiyan, one of the teachers killed during last week’s attack on schools in Oyo State.

The burial ceremony was held at Ayegun Baptist Church in Ogbomoso, where mourners paid their last respects to the deceased teacher amid grief and tears.

Photographs from the event, showed sympathisers consoling members of the family as Adesiyan’s remains were brought into the church for the funeral service.

On May 15, gunmen riding motorcycles invaded communities along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis in Oriire, Ogbomoso, abducting dozens of students and seven teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele; L.A. Primary School, Esiele; and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

During the attack, Adesiyan, an assistant headmaster at the community high school, and a commercial motorcyclist were shot dead.

A video circulated on Monday allegedly showing bandits beheading Oyedokun after tying him to a tree.

The viral clip sparked outrage on social media and renewed concerns over the safety of the remaining victims still in captivity.

Although reports emerged on Thursday claiming the abducted victims had been released, both the Oyo State Government and the police dismissed the claims as false.

  • Maduka Varsity Denies Withholding Student’s Transcript, Fee Hikes

Maduka Varsity Denies Withholding Student’s Transcript, Fee Hikes

Maduka University, Ekwegbe-Nsukka, Enugu State, Friday. described allegations of withholding the transcript of one of its medical students “as baseless and an act of content creation”.

Mrs Chika Akhigbe, whose daughter is studying medicine and surgery in the university, had in a viral video accused the university of refusing to release a hard copy of her daughter’s transcript to her husband despite paying the stipulated fee.

Akhigbe had stated that the request for the transcript followed the hike of the fees of medical students of the university, prompting her to seek change of university for her daughter.

The university, in a statement signed by its Registrar, J. Omeje, and made available to THE WHISTLER, described the claims as false, and intended to mislead the public.

According to Mr Omeje, the university never denied the release of the transcript, but demanded the address of the institution it should be mailed to.

“The student’s father was duly informed by the Registrar to provide the name of the institution to which the official transcript would be sent, in line with standard university practice and established academic procedures. This address has not been provided. University official transcripts are sent only to designated institutions and not released directly to individuals,” the university stated.

The university further explained that the student’s father said he was unable to pay the prescribed official transcript fee, and “threatened to escalate the matter publicly and legally.” The statement added that the student’s father “also visited other offices within the university, including the Admissions Office and the Bursary Department, making similar threats”.

Mrs Akhigbe had in the video claimed that they had paid all their daughter’s school fees.

The university clarified that, “It’s not true. They have an outstanding of N500,000 out of N3.5m for the 2025/2026 academic session. Her claim of having paid for the processing fee for the official transcript is false. As at May 21, 2026, the university is yet to receive any payment from her for the purpose of any transcript processing.”

It said there was no time that the VC discussed the official transcript matter with the student’s parents, as alluded by the mother in her video. “The interaction was solely with the Registrar, whose office supervises official transcript processing through the University Records Office.”

The university also debunked Mrs Akhigbe’s claims of arbitrary fee increment in the university. Quoting the statement, “Her claim that the university increased school fees for 2025/2026 academic session for returning medical students to N4.5m is false. The school fee including accommodation for returning medical students is N4,010,000 for the 2026/2027 academic session which has not taken off.

“Her claim that we increase school fees annually and therefore have become unaffordable is also false. We have maintained one of the lowest fee regimes among our contemporaries. Her claim that her daughter is the best performing student in her class is false.”

On alleged security threats in the university, the registrar said, “It is false and unsubstantiated; we have never had any security breaches since the inception of the university.”

The statement described Mrs Akhigbe as a person “on a mission to tarnish the reputation of the university through her campaign of calumny and character defamation”, adding that, “Her intention is to use her social media influence to force the university to circumvent official protocol. It is surprising that a mother would use the education of her daughter to entertain her social media followers and drive traffic to her page”.

The university affirmed that it remains committed to professionalism, due process, adherence to established academic standards in all administrative matters, and the welfare of its students.

“We urge members of the public to disregard misleading narratives and rely on verified information from official university channels,” it concluded.

Maduka University is founded by the Chairman, Peace Group, Dr Samuel Onyishi.

Nasarawa: ‘Result manipulation going on’ – Former IGP Adamu on APC guber primaries

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has raised alarm over alleged attempts to manipulate the outcome of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Nasarawa State.

The Director-General of the Mohammed Adamu governorship campaign organisation, Musa Hussaini, made the allegation while addressing journalists on Friday in Lafia.

Hussaini said results obtained from wards and local government areas where voting took place reflected the will of party members and demonstrated widespread support for the aspirant.

He alleged interference with the election result sheets by some officials of the Nasarawa State Government in certain local government areas.

According to him, the alleged actions were undemocratic and capable of undermining the credibility of the primary election.

He called on the APC Electoral Committee to remain impartial and uphold what he described as the genuine results from ward polling and collation centres.

“We, therefore, call on the APC Electoral Committee to remain firm, impartial and committed to justice by upholding the genuine results as obtained at the wards and local government collation centres.

“The committee must resist every form of pressure, intimidation or attempt to manipulate the democratic process,” he said.

DAILY POST reports that collation of results from the governorship primary was ongoing at the state collation centre in Lafia, at the time of filing the report.
