The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has ordered its directorates to suspend services to 11 domestic airlines.
The NCAA also placed them on its updated “No-Pay-No-Service” list over unpaid statutory charges owed to the regulator.
An internal memo by the agency’s Director of Finance and Accounts, Olufemi Odukoya, ordered all departments to withhold regulatory and administrative services from the affected operators until they clear their outstanding debts or agree on repayment plans.
According to the agency, at the centre of the dispute are the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge and Cargo Sales Charge, funds collected by airlines on behalf of the NCAA to support safety oversight, personnel training and economic regulation within the aviation sector.
The memo also directed all directorates to suspend services to the affected airlines pending financial clearance from the Directorate of Finance and Accounts.
The memo was circulated across the authority’s regional offices and copied to the Director-General of Civil Aviation and other senior officials.
According to the memo, airlines affected by the directive include “Air Peace Limited, Ibom Air Limited, Arik Air Limited, United Nigeria Airlines, Umza Air, NG Eagle, Max Air Limited, Caverton Helicopters, Overland Airways, Rano Air and ValueJet.”
“We have directed that no directorate should render any service to the above airline without financial clearance from the director of finance and accounts,” NCAA said.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has returned to Abuja, after attending the inauguration of Romuald Wadagni of Benin Republic.
DAILY POST reports that Shettima headed straight to the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre for the final collation of the APC presidential primary results.
The Vice President had on Saturday, jetted to Benin Republic for the inauguration.

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has extended the registration period for the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into technical colleges across Nigeria to May 31.
The board also announced a shift in the examination date from June 6 to June 13.
This decision is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Benin by the board’s Assistant Director, Media and Protocol, Mr Uchechukwu Olisah.
According to him, the approval for the extension was conveyed by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr Aminu Mohammed.
He noted that this approval was communicated through an internal memorandum signed by the Director of Examinations Administration, Ms Chigoziem Metu.
“With this extension, the registration for the National Common Entrance Examination will close on Sunday, May 31, while the examination earlier scheduled for Saturday, June 6, will now hold on Saturday, June 13,” he said.
The board’s spokesperson explained that the extension followed requests from prospective candidates seeking additional time to complete their registration processes.
He said the registrar expected candidates to take advantage of the extension to conclude all registration formalities before the new deadline.
Olisah quoted Mohammed as encouraging entrepreneurially inclined students and candidates seeking admission into higher institutions to register for and participate in NABTEB examinations.
The examination is conducted for admission into technical colleges across the country.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Benue State for the 2027 election, Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, has unveiled 38-year-old Dr Oyije Ochaekiti Ogbenjuwa as his running mate.
Aondoakaa announced the choice during the party’s congress held in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Speaking at the event, the PDP flagbearer outlined key priorities of his administration if elected in 2027, stressing that his government would focus on ending attacks and killings in communities while guaranteeing the safety of lives and property across the state in a lasting way.
He further promised to revive agriculture and accelerate rural development, in line with Benue’s status as the “Food Basket of the Nation.”
The senior lawyer also listed youth and women empowerment through job creation and enterprise support among the core areas his administration would pursue.
According to Aondoakaa, his government would also prioritise improved infrastructure, quality healthcare, and better education, while creating an enabling environment for industrial growth and economic expansion.
He added that his administration would be anchored on justice, transparency, and accountability in governance.
The PDP candidate also pledged to foster unity and reconciliation among the people, irrespective of political, ethnic, or sectional differences.
Benue PDP guber candidate Aondoakaa picks 38-year-old doctor as running mate
Barr Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has called for the immediate release of one Chukwu Sunday Obasi.
Obasi, according to Ejimakor, has been in detention at the custody of the Department of the State Services (DSS) since 2021 for allegedly belonging to the pro-Biafra group.
Ejimakor, in a message sent to THE WHISTLER on Sunday, called on human rights advocates and public-spirited individuals to join the call for the release of the detainee.
He stated that, “On mere suspicion of being an IPOB member, Chukwu Sunday Obasi has been detained by the DSS since March 2021 without trial and access to lawyers/relatives. Please join me in publicly calling for his immediate release or at least presented in court to defend himself.”
IPOB, founded in 2012 by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been campaigning for a referendum to enable the people of the Igbo race of South-East Nigeria to decide if they want to belong to Nigeria’s super structure, or have their sovereign country. Kanu is currently being detained at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Sokoto, after being convicted of treason-related offences by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, last year. Kanu has however appealed his sentencing on the grounds that the activities of IPOB are within the scope of fundamental human rights.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed the readiness of the state to collaborate with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company PLC, IBEDC, towards improving electricity supply across the state.
Governor Abiodun made this remark during a courtesy visit by the Board and Management of IBEDC to the Ogun State to his office on Thursday according to a statement signed by the company management and made available to DAILY POST on Sunday.
On the issue of vandalisation of power infrastructure, Governor Abiodun also assured that the state government is working on introducing stricter laws and enforcement mechanisms to deter vandalism and protect critical electricity assets.
The Governor also disclosed that “the State intends to implement tighter regulatory controls within its electricity market to ensure that only credible and technically competent operators are licensed to operate in the state.”
According to him, the state government will develop a clear roadmap for licensing and regulation of electricity market participants, while ensuring proper oversight of the process.
Earlier, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc, IBEDC, reaffirmed its commitment to improving electricity supply and strengthening power infrastructure across Ogun State through strategic collaboration with the State Government.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr ,Taiwo Afolabi, an IBEDC Board member stated that IBEDC’s transition to new core investors represents a significant turning point for the company as fresh investments aimed at strengthening electricity infrastructure and improving service delivery across the company’s franchise areas, especially Ogun State, will become a reality.
The Managing Director/CEO of IBEDC, Mr Deolu Ijose, in his presentation during the meeting, highlighted the strategic importance of Ogun State within the IBEDC franchise due to its rapid industrialisation, growing population, and increasing energy demand.
Ijose emphasised the need for stronger regulatory coordination and strategic collaboration between IBEDC and the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission, OGERC, to ensure a sustainable and investment-friendly electricity market framework.
Among the key requests presented by IBEDC were “support for the licensing of Olumo Electricity Distribution Company Plc (OEDCL) as IBEDC’s Ogun State subsidiary, development of a coordinated engagement framework for market participants, alignment on franchise boundaries and reduction of regulatory overlap within the electricity market.”
He sought the support of the State Government in securing “Right-of-Way approvals, protecting critical electricity infrastructure against vandalism and sabotage, and facilitating industrial power corridors to support economic growth and industrial development.”
Ijose identified strategic projects requiring collaboration and support to include “the Redeemed 33kV Feeder, Magada 33kV Feeder, and the Double Circuit 33kV Feeder from Oke-Aro to Magboro. The projects would significantly improve power reliability and industrial energy access within Ogun State.”
