    ACHIEVERS UNIVERSITY, OWO

COMMUNITY ON THE STUDENTS PAYMENT FRAUD

    1. Recall that on 14th April, 2026, I informed the University Community of a disturbing discovery of a fraudulent hacking of our Students’ Fees Payment Portal in order to defraud the University. I also informed you of the Students Fees Payment Audit Exercise which required every student to appear before an Investigative Committee. The arduous exercise for our current students was concluded on Friday 22nd May, 2026.

    2. The exercise has revealed the following:

The fraud was master-minded by one Olanike Mary Asabia, an Alumnus of the Department of Accounting of our University, who was later employed to work at the University Bursary. She resigned from the services of the University in April 2025.

The ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€ affected three academic sessions: 2023/2024, 2024/2025, and 2025/2026 Academic Sessions.

320 Students paid a total sum of N457,508,645.00 School Fees into the Personal Account of the said Olanike Mary Asabia, who in turn fraudulently cleared such students on the Portal without the University receiving the money. Many of the students were lured to pay into her account by offer of Discounted Fees/Commission.

11 Members of Staff and 34 Students were used as Agents of the said ๐—ข๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—”๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—ฎ to โ€˜Recruitโ€™ Students for the Fraudulent Activities.

One External Person working at Federal Medical Centre, Owo was also indicted as having served as Agent of the fraudulent activities.

    3. The affected Students have been directed to pay their full fees into the University Accounts as officially provided. This must be done promptly with the usual penalties for late payment of School Fees.

    4. All the 320 indicted students, and the 6 students that acted as ๐—”๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ will be made to face the ๐—ฆ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ ๐——๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฒ to further explain to the ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—”๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† what motivated them to disregard the well laid down fees payment procedures.

  • Court Reserves Ruling On Final Forfeiture Of Malamiโ€™s 57 Properties

Court Reserves Ruling On Final Forfeiture Of Malamiโ€™s 57 Properties

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 has slated July 6, 2026 for judgment in the final forfeiture of 57 properties linked to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

At Tuesdayโ€™s proceedings, EFCC counsel J.S Okutepa, SAN informed the court that the matter of the day was for hearing of final forfeiture of the properties and other pending applications.

Reacting, defence counsel, Adedayo Adedeji, SAN drew the attention of the court to 16 Motions on Notice seeking to set aside the interim forfeiture order of the properties by the court delivered on January 6, 2026. The EFCC opposed the motions with counter affidavits, urging the court to discountenance the request of the defendant. Some of the defendantโ€™s applications sought extension of time to show cause why properties listed in the schedule should not be forfeited to the government.

ย Arguing the applications, Adedeji submitted that, โ€œMy lord, we filed an application, dated 21st of April 2026, for extension of time and a counter affidavit to oppose to the applicantโ€™s motion for final forfeiture which was deposed to by Abubakar Malami urging the honorable court to refuse and dismiss the order of final forfeiture as they are not proceeds of crimes but an allegation that is relied on suspicionโ€

Responding, Okutepa said โ€œ My lord, we also filed a 77- paragraph affidavits deposed to by Adebayo Daniels, an EFCC operative, which was filed on the 5th of May, 2026, attached with 8 exhibits and a written address, in addition with a reply on points of law. We rely on all these processes in urging my lord to hold that their application has woefully failed to show cause and we ask your lordship to grant the request as prayed and forfeit the properties to the Federal Governmentโ€.

ย  He further prayed the court to discountenance the request of other respondents opposing the forfeiture applications.

Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to July 6, 2026 for judgment.
